View Full Version : Tailboard pulling out

Took the boat out this weekend and noticed the teak tail board was loose. When I was able to inspect it I noticed the lag bolts on the passenger side are pulling out of the hull. Has anyone fixed a problem like this before? What is the best approach?

you could try tightening them. If not, you may end up having to cut the floor, make a backing plate and use nuts on the backing plate. I wonder about using epoxy to secure them in? Obviously this would be a fairly permanent solution.

Hopefully others chime in.

I have a 1985 stars and stripes and I am currently going through the same process. I have removed the swim step, removed the fuel tank and found that someone previous had opened up the floor. For many the bolts are beneath the floor level. I purchased a 1/4 inch plate aluminum and will use that for backing on all 4 bolts. There is a lot of information about this if you search. There are no shortcuts in doing this the right way. good luck
