View Full Version : Leaky drive shaft

I have a 2012 mastercraft x-45 (salt water series)with over 200 hours. When I flush the engine (auto flush option in stern) I get water coming out if the drive shaft. Is this normal? It appears I have a leaky thru hull fitting. Any thoughts?

I would suspect that if it is a saltwater series boat - that it probably has a dripless shaft seal - I would imagine that it is an OJ XPC.

If so there is a line that is a "cooling" line to dump water through the seal. If that is plumbed into the raw water pump side of the heat exchanger then the flush system should also flush through the shaft seal.

It's normal for the dripless seal systems in the newer boats.

When they say dripless they mean dripless into the hull. The water coming out of the prop shaft is there to lubricate seal.
