Hello,

I'm new to the sight and was hoping to find some help on an issue that has come up that I nor my mechanic can seem to resolve. After about 10 minutes or so under load aprox 3,000 RPM my boat goes into an idle mode. I have already had the impeller/water pump changed out. Lines flushed, oil cooler flushed and the thermostats changed. They have gone thru the intake and the riser. There are a few threads already but they seemed liked they did not fit my current issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Steve,

Which thermostats did you change and what ratings?

should be a 142 and a 160. One of them also has a small hole in it to allow a "bit" of flow through....

Take a picture of your heads front and back. Post pictures. Sounds like the symtoms for the steam vents that may need to be swapped.

The top one is the 160 with a small hole drilled in it, and the 142 goes in the lower section at the triangle.

I originally had a 185 stat in mine and it got warm and went into limp mode. Just bogged down at about 2500 rpms if I recall. After I put in the correct t-stats, it ran like a champ!

You just don't want to overheat this engine due to the aluminum heads, etc.

Ski-me is correct. Keep it simple...start with verifing correct t stats are installed.

"The raw water cooled LT1 has 2 thermostats. The one that goes in the circulating pump is a 160 that has a bypass hole drilled in it (P/N 986034). The other one is a 140 that goes under a triangular shaped cover on the front of the engine (P/N 985005). You can get them from inboardonline.com."

Thanks all for the info. Turns out the 160 thermostat did not have the hole drilled in. Does this need to be done manually or does the part# supplied in this thread have the breather hole drilled in already?

Thanks again hope this takes care of it!

They are correct...reference them online. Holes are already drilled in 160T

Gasket for drilled 160T is fel-pro 35710 which you can get at any auto parts store, unless your from Japan. It has a grooved slot that will fit around the thermostat.

I drilled mine, myself. 3/16" I think is what I used.
