View Full Version : Marine Electrical sealer "brown goop"

Doing some work on my dad's bass boat this weekend, I noticed that everything electrical on the Evinrude outboard is sealed with a brown, sticky "goop."

I would typically use dielectric grease in these situations, but I'm wondering if this brown goop is better? Anyone know what it is?

I used to use a product called LPS III. LPS I is like WD-40, LPS II is a little thicker, but LPS III is a thick brown goop. When I ran boats in saltwater I always sprayed the back of dashboards, wire connectors, items in the engine compartment like trim pumps, with LPS III. It did a great job of sealing out the salt air and water. I've never used it on freshwater boats.
