Anyone use a shaft collar on their shaft to prevent damage/loss of prop in case of a shaft shear?

Another forum has a very interesting thread about the utility of a $15 part to save your bacon if this were to happen.

I only saw a shaft shear once (not my boat, but I was driving) and it was between the strut and the prop. The shaft collar wouldn't have saved it.

Most shafts won't clear the rudder with a prop on.

Seems like a collar just in front of the strut could help, wonder if you can get zinc shaft collars.

The article was citing the usefulness of the collar installed aft of the coupler in the boat. Opinions were of shaft shear at the coupler...

Had not heard of it but seems like a cheap insurance in that case.
