I just went and bought some TA at the local Dollar Store and read on back that it needs to be diluted. What ratio does anyone use who cleans their seats with this product? I did see a 10:1 ratio for vinyl furniture and I guess I could just start there. Any thoughts?

Did you get the refill? I bought the spray for $1.00 - cleaned vinyl that I could not clean for a decade in my van...

I was told there's no need to dilute it for cleaning vinyl, just make sure you rinse when done.

i diluted it as directed for vinyl and it came out great... 10 to 1 I think. Not sure it needs to be full strength after the results I got. I figured i could always use it full strength if I didn't like the diluted results.

Also it dried the heck out of my hands which made me put a double thick coat of 303 on afterwords out of worry that it would dry out the vinyl. I dont know that you need to do that.

I got the spray bottle ($1.00) used it just the way it came. Cleans great. Didn't rinse, but didn't let it sit too long and just wiped it dry. Then I sued a spray app of "ICE PREMIUM CARE" Maxx Protectant by Turtle Wax for the UV protection . Great finish and I will see if it holds up any where near as the 303 I've been reading about so much on this forum. I'm not knocking the 303, it is just easier for me to get this stuff locally.
And OOOOHHH that protectant smells soooo good.

swatguy
05-09-2013, 06:58 PM
You can use it full strength or diluted. I would start diluted first. Really depends on the mission and how bad your vinyl is. To really take advantage, get a nice soft bristle scrub brush to get its full cleaning power. The brush is just as big of a key as the cleaner.

As mentioned just make sure to use a good conditioner/protectant after the fact.

Thanks for the info. I still need to get some 303 before I give it a try. My seats look fine, but I can tell they are a little dirty from nearly 20 years of boating. They are probably even dirtier that I think they are though.

Being that it is actually made for carpet, has anyone used it on their floors?

I went to the dollar store today and picked up some TA. However, I found 2 different types. One was general purpose and in a clear bottle and was gold color. The other was in a black bottle and specifically states totally awesome vinyl cleaner.

I bought them both since they were a buck. Is there a difference? And or will one work better in different applications?

Thanks

Gold color one is the full strength. Never seen the black vinyl cleaner. Gold color needs to be rinsed well after using.

This stuff is awesome. I cleaned my 6-7 year neglected interior that looked disgusting over the weekend. While it doesn't look brand new, it looks pretty friggin' good. There's some dark spots I just couldn't get out of the vinyl, but WOW it looks awesome. Forgot to take pics, but when I get the boat back from the trailer service shop I'll snap a few. Definitely recommend this stuff... and after I did a full clean with the totally awesome, I put some 303 on it. It feels soooo good and soft now.

I used the clear (gold) colored one. Let us know how the other stuff works. There is also an orange colored one. I'll use this up, and for a buck, I'll try the others too.

i can't say enough good things about this stuff... used it full strength with soft/mild bristle brush... amazing. it is in fact: Totally Awesome (sorry had to do it).

only related issue i had was it drying (with the newly released "gunk") before i was done scrubbing. diluting it helped some with this and had little reduction in cleaning power. also, it would run and have streaks (undiluted) where it dried leaving residue before i would wipe clean. diluting helped with the running residue as well.

best bang for the buck in vinyl cleaner... hands down.

That stuff is "Totally Awesome". I have used this for years after a neighbor's recommendation. It seems to work best when a little diluted....makes for less quick drying. It is easy to use. I do use a vinyl protectant after using.

I promised photos so here they are. I diluted it about 50-50. The full strength works better, but it is really better when worked in with a brush. I thought everything worked pretty well though.

Picked up some today... I have used the 303 cleaner.. Mcquires.. and Seamist Degreaser from Wal Mart.. this stuff worked the best. I went with full throttle 100% with a brush and w finger scrub and massage. It was amazing as I rubbed how much released and ran down the cushion. The brush helps but felt my hand worked best keeping the spray on the area treated.
Tomorrow will get before and after.

I am picking up some of this stuff today.

Already have and use 303 Protectant. Is there anything else I should use to "condition" the vinyl after cleaning? We have an '01 with original vinyl which is in very good shape, but it has split at a seam and I can feel the vinyl getting hard & stiff in a few other places. Want get at least one more summer out of it!

So those of you using this stuff to clean vinyl have you noticed that it seems to dry out the vinyl? This is probably not the best explanation but I tried some full strength on a stain portion of the vinyl and after I wiped clean with a damp towel it appeared "dryer" if you look at it in the right light.

I applied several coats of 303 and it would dry out where the TA was but appear wet every where else.

Diluted it didn't seem to do this.

PS gets rust stains out of carpet like they were never there!

Good to know. Maybe duration of time let to soak in can make a difference too. I have brand new interior vinyl and this stuff seems to wipe anything I want off of it. I havent been following up with any 303 or anything. Just a damp rag to remove the residue.

I rinsed with a wet rag immediately after scrubbing with TA in that spot.... then applied 303 protectant to the general area and wiped. Noticed it was still "dry" in that TA full strength spot. Re-applied 303, wiped. Checked for dryness, re-applied, checked re-applied. repeated until about the 5th time (around the 4th/5th time I came up with a slightly different approach).

At 4th re-application I started to reapply using only a drop or so of 303 and rubbing it in with my fingers - letting it sit longer on the TA spot and wiping the areas that were not dry. Essentially leaving a heavier application of 303 on the TA spot.

I did this until I could finally wipe the entire area and not be able to tell where the dry spot was when I looked at it in a certain light.

It's now back to normal (and stain free!). :)

Talking to me? I actually did put a little bit in my boat wash bucket. It was pretty filthy so I figured it couldn't hurt. Not sure if it did anything, but the boat looks good now. It'll strip the boat of all wax though, so prepare for that.

I am using it straight up then wiping off the residue with a clean damp rag. Then 303.

I rinsed the area with water first, sprayed on straight, scrubbed with a brush, rinsed area with water again, dried with tower, then set aside to dry out even more. After I did the whole interior like that, I put a couple coatings of 303 on it.

I had some very nasty orange and dark mildew stains from the PO. (T/A didn't cut it) I scrubbed with Bar Keeper's friend to kill the mildew and nasty stains. Then used totally awesome - 10 hours of MCOCD and my interior looks..... Well, totally awesome.

While it does a really good job cleaning the dirt and grim that can accumulate on upholstery over the years, I am not sure that it was meant to be a mildew remover, although I have had some luck removing some. Perhaps it was not as deep in the upholstery as yours may be. I know Orlando can be a very humid environment so mildew can come up almost anywhere.

I would not use it on leather - it's mostly orange oil and I believe it would dry out the leather...

It would fix a lot on that carpet. I don't like it on the vinyl at all (I believe it will dry it out prematurely). I used it on gelcoat in one spot once and will not use it again - not sure how to explain it but in that one spot it took out the shine.

Here are a few places I have used and will use again:

Yellowing Plastic parts
Carpet
Rims (have not had an issue but I try not to get it on the painted parts)
Aluminum and Stainless parts (BE careful not to get it on stickers.. it will ruin them)

It is amzing stuff on carpets and aluminum/stainless steel..... worry a little it will damage clearcoated metals though.

Caution....it can wear through clear-coated wheels.

That's exactly my fear - I once upon a time completely screwed up a set of rims on my Jeep (TJ).... using "rim cleaner". the stuff melted the clear coat!

TA'd a couple of bad spots on the spare and felt it worked ok without issue. I Agree - use this stuff gingerly on coated metals!!!

Great on carpet and "relatively" inexpensive plastic parts! ;)

I think one of the keys is to make sure you properly rinse or wash TA off after using it on vinyl. Then follow up with 303 or another vinyl treatment of your choice.

It may not be that easy with it being a chemical. I found it at a liquidation place in Lethbridge Alberta ($3 bottle) I didnt know our exchange rate was so bad. If they still have it next time I'm down there, I will grab you a case. I bought a case for myself and it does what everyone says!
