I'm needing to replace one of the Airguide speedometers in my '96 Prostar 205. Since those speedo's seem to be hard to come by, what replacements would work with minimal modification? On Ebay, I regularly see ones removed from early 2000's Mastercrafts, but would those work? Thanks for the suggestions as I have never changed out a boat speedometer before.

I have used FARIA's in another boat. Out with the old and in with the new. As long as you have (if I remember) a 3 1/4 hole. they are not adjustable though.

Or just use your smart phone with the GPS speedo app - or even better yet put in a perfect pass.. ;) ... I love spending other peoples money... ;)

Ha....I am considering perfect pass. If I found the correct diameter, do they all pretty much plug up the same?

With the last post I was referring to the speedometer, not the perfect pass.

Are you sure the speedo is bad and it isn't a clogged pitot or leaky line?

Maybe some one will have one to sell since many on here install PP and have a spare.

I would first check the line, ballast and pitot. The ballast are mounted on the gas tank. If you remove the rear seat you can see them.

If you are looking to trouble shoot, just swap the lines going to the back of the speedos on the dash. That will help you figure out if it is the tubes or the speedo.

I seem to recall a company that restores the old airguides too. Maybe someone knows of a website.

If you have plugged lines, see the Slow Reacting Speedo thread for my solution. Pretty dramatic photos at the end. Might help. I'm also thinking of adding a GPS speedo.

Is the dash removable on a '98 Prostar? Kind of crowded underneath behind there.

This might be your lucky day.....I have one I removed from our 97 205, its sitting in a box on the moving truck heading to our new home in Knoxville. Let me know if your interested.

I may not have been real clear in the original post. When I bought it, my boat had one Airguide and a different type of speedo in the other spot and on this one the needle kept falling off. Well, after gluing it back on the second time I damaged it.

Anyway, my first option was to find another Airguide to replace the aftermarked one with. Second option was to just replace both of them (so they would match up). Third option was to replace the aftermarket one with Perfect Pass....would be nice at some point!

Stritt, I sent you a PM.
