The previous owner of my '87 PS 190 completely buggered the threaded drain on my transmission cooler. Has anyone else experienced a cross-threaded drain plug on these coolers?

Is it worth running a tap through it to try to clean the threads, or should it be drilled and re-tapped to the next larger size (currently 1/8")? I'm not even sure what the next larger size is for a plumbing fitting... at the hardware store this seems to be 3/8".

Coolers are cheap - I would replace.. IMO -

It should be NPT so make sure you have the correct tap, which is what I would try first.

You might be able to get a radiator repair shop to solder on a new fitting for less then a new cooler.
