Anyone from the Des Moines area? Just wondering where everyone goes. We have a camper set up at Honey Creek/ lake rathbun that we spend every weekend at. Occasionally hit saylorville after work durring the week. Its just my business partner and I after work so always looking for a third.

I live in Albia, so my wife and I (and anyone else we can get to come) spend a day or two most weekends in the summer at Rathbun.

What is Rathbun like? We have talked about spending a few days there with the boat. A good 5-5.5 hour drive for us though

I'd be up for coming out some weekend and doing some camping. Maybe get a little Iowa/Kansas/Minnesota get together organized since it's not terribly far from any of those places. Could be fun!

Rathbun is beautiful. Cleaner then red rock or saylorville, less busy as well. You don't have all the yuppies from ankeny/ west Des Moines who don't know what they are doing. There's a lot of nice coves and channels for wakeboarding and partying. By the marina there's a several hundred yard long beach that a lot of people hang out at too. Send me a PM if you ever head this way. We have plenty of room for tents at our campground.

Well have to get something planned. For those who don't want to sleep in a tent 3 miles from us is the honey creek resort. Only a few years old, has lots of rooms and an indoor waterpark. Just down the road from us a mile is also the honey creek campground if there's a lot of people coming we could reserve some spots.

We have plenty of room for tents at our campground.

Do you guys camp at the campground at the marina? Its only about a 20 minute drive from the boat ramp to our house, so we don't do a lot of camping. I usually put in at bridgeview and do all of my skiing/wakeboarding in south fork. My 205 doesn't like the main body on busy days, so we stick around South Fork most of the time. I do feel really lucky to live as close to the lake as we do though.

If it were a weekend that would work for us, we would be up for a little road trip down south or we could easily head over to Clear Lake for something. That would be a little closer and my cousin who has an MC would probably come too.

I would travel a bit for a weekend of fun. I spent many weekends at Rathbun growing up when we lived in Indianola.

We used to camp at the place across from the marina entrance but we moved over by honey creek this year because it was almost half the price. $1200 over there and $800 here. More laid back hillbillyish community. The place by the marina was very "clicky" and full of snobs who had to one up each other. There's a channel behind the marina that is really good in the mornings and evenings for calm water. Around noon the tubers and lake lice come out and tear it up all day though. Can"t say we've never helped tho. Lots of friends kids go with us and like to tube/ jet ski

Yes. Not sure I'm pulling the boat. Either way, would love a pull behind yours!

A group gathering there other than during July 4 would be fun.
