Ok guys so I've been saying for a month or so I was going to re finish my valve covers, I finally finished it this evening.

This is how they started 92547

Next step was to remove all the old paint or whatever it was, so off to a buddies blast cabinet, that didnt work very good at all. Maybe it was his cabinet or maybe it was the paint they use I don't know. So I grabbed some aircraft remover as per what he told me. (I had never used before) let me just say don't waste your time with a blast cabinet!
Before I could finish the first application to the first cover this is what it looked like
92548

I brushed the remover on with a cheap paintbrush and when I went back to put on the 2nd coat most of the pain came off with the brush. Then I went and washed with water hose and this is what I got

92549

Valve cover 2 wasn't so easy. After doing Same steps as the first cover an forgetting remover was on over night, this is what I had
92550

So I took both to the wire wheel on a bench grinder, you can see in the top of the picture the result.
92551

After cleaning on the bench grinder I washed and dried and prepped with scotch brite red pad, and shot some black
92553

After a few days of drying inside the shop I started scraping with a razor blade then decided to go for it with 80 grit and a sanding block
92554
92556
92555

After sanding all the black off the ribs and letters I cleared
92557

Probably can't tell by the clear pic that it was kinda dull, as per a member here I read the label on the paint an and realized it needed baked

I like the crinkle texture paint.

I wish MC still put these on their boats

Oh, I was diagnosed with MCOCD quite some time ago, its just that now the symptoms are really starting to multiply...kind of like Gremlins and water

Unfortunately there is NO cure for this. There is something that will take the edge off
though....:toast::toast:
