Anyone not use a battery box on their boat? I am replacing my Delco batteries with optima Blue-tops. They have the gel cell on the inside and are touted as never leaking. Just wondering if I still need to use a battery box with these.

I am in the process of relocating the two batteries in my X30 from the compartement behind the driver, to the other side under the observer seat. Just bought two Optima D34Ms and two of these hold down trays. I thought about just using the holes in the Optima case but decided on using the trays for a more secure mounting. I don't believe the Optimas are gel batteries, but just sealed batteries.

the optima batteries won't spill, leak, or corrode, so their website claims, I've seen these batteries mounted in all sort of positions.
the optima batteries are spiral cell with glass mat between the cells that retain the acid. these are most excellent for boat use.
