Just reading the barefooting post... I've been thinking about trying to barefoot and the info in that post is great...but in the past I've had the unpleasant responsibility of towing in a body which had been hit by a prop. it seems only being 4' from the boat is pretty close. if a man falls wrong whats to stop him from going to close? can anyone post a drivers seat view of a fully assembled boom as I've never seen one up close.

Take a look at this site - pictures of Tumble up show a guy getting up on a boom.
Do you have experience with an inboard boat? It would be pretty hard to get hurt by the boat - first of all you are going approx. 35-40 mph and by the time you fully hit the water the boat is long gone. Also the prop is under neath the boat and not at the back of the boat like a I/O or outboard. With this said, the driver does need to pay attention and not turn in to the footer, anything can happen, but if you use caution, it should be fine.

Hopefully I'll soon have pics of me footing off of the swim platform. One step back onto the water, one step back onto the platform, done deal...

Real footers go long line... :headbang: :purplaugh :D

I've never heard of anyone hitting the prop that did not go over the front.

Never even heard of anyone hitting the boat from the boom, but would guess that has happened.

I've not heard of anyone getting hit by the prop from an inboard while using the boom either. You want to make sure the driver is comfortable with it and you should only make slight turns when towing a footer.

One time I was towing a buddy off the boom and the cable broke (there was only one on this particular boom). He swung back and hit the side of the boat before letting go, but was fine. All the new booms have two cables though and other than that episode, I've never felt unsafe driving or being towed on the boom.

What's this about "towing in a body"?
