To people who have this engine, how is the reliability of this engine and what problems, if any have you had with it.
I am looking to buy a 2000 Maristar 210 with this engine. Will be used for recreational skiing and crusing.
Thanks.

I have the LTR-1 and have not heard of problems with either the LTR or LTR1. They come from a good engine family in GM also.
In this era, I would say fuel pumps going dead and alternator bolts breaking are the main problems. Ask if the alt bracket was changed to the new design and bolts were changed. I think this year was in the recall, mine was, 2001.

In 4 years mine has never failed to start or leave me stranded. I would think the reliability would be the same as all well maintained 350s. As far as problems, one broken alternator bolt, which was fixed under a recall to add an additional support bracket. During oil changes, you also need to be sure to check the oil pump gear which is where the distributor would be. I haven't had any issues with wear on this gear. I just replaced the shaft seal in my raw water pump, but that is a Johnson issue, nothing to do with the LTR.
I like the engine for my use, watersports and cruising. Plenty of power and torque, although some have complained the LTR is light on low end torque, something the MCX improved upon.

We have over 200 hours on our 2002 209 with the LTR with no problems whatsoever.
I ran one for a couple of hundred hours in an 00 190 with no problems. I always thought it was sluggish on the holeshot but it started first time every time with no breakdowns. (I did have the alternator bracket added, you do need to see that it is done)
