So I've got the new boat itch, abd I've been looking at the 30 vs 2 vs 10. I really only wakeboard anymore, since everyone and their cousin surfs now. So for best wakeboard wakes, what's gonna put out the best loaded or wake? All around better boat? Any wake pics would be awesome! Just wondering what is my best option vs staying with my current boat.

if wakeboarding is the only thing you care about in a boat... why not look at an older star? thats pretttty much all they're good at... er.. i mean great at

now i see that you said "new" boat... considering used too?

The new X10's are sweet though small compared to the 15/25/30. I don't know if the 10 or 30 will throw a better wake than your X15 though. 501s did post some wake pics of his X30 slammed and it does look big and clean. If you are all about the wakeboard wake though I'd second the old XStar.

Old Star, or X25.

Looking at new for sure. Dont want to be without a warranty. got a good use out of the warranty on my 15. Really want a new 30! going to TX MC tomorrow to look and hopefully get my boat back.

no thoughts on the wake of an x2?

Nick911

Don't know much about the X2 but I've never heard if it having a better wake than 25 or 30. The 30 is in a different league size-wise too than the X2 or X10. Ask yourself how big a boat you want. X2 and X10 will be noticeably smaller.

no thoughts on the wake of an x2?

I've ridden behind an X-2 a few times. As my buddy says, it's a bit mellow (and he's a good rider) I think it takes a lot of extra weight to get a large wake out of it.

I don't know how the new X10 and X30 wakes are, but models that put out the best wakeboard wake goes something like this.

X-star
X-25 (or CSX)
X-15
X-2

Keith Lyman made a comment to me once that he loved the wake of the X-15, so if you want to improve on your boat's wake I think your best bet is an X-25 or '04-'12 X-star.
Maybe you can find a slightly used X-star with a transferable waranty?

^^^^I didn't want to say it because the OP never mentioned it (assuming he already eliminated it) but the X25 will have the best wakeboard wake of the bunch plus still surf well. If the OP is considering the X2 I'm assuming he doesn't have a problem with the picklefork either.

i bought an '08 X2 this summer, wakeboarded behind once and then went home and ordered the full fly high set up for it - very mellow with stock ballast...

I have an X30 and the wakeboard wake is very good with extra weight. With just factory its good but not amazing, but add another 1-2k and it gets excellent. what i like most is the wake stays clean at all speeds and lenghts, evwn when its got 2500 of ballast. ive posted quite a few pics of the wake as well as some vids here on TT. i havent ridden an X15 but was told the 30 is like a larger X15 wake.

Just to add some more info. i came from a boat with a steeper wake but it was finiky. weight and balance had to be perect otherwise the wake would wash out. on the new x30 this is never a problem. its always clean and consistent and this is probably one of my favorite things avout the boat.

And drive an X30 too. it drives amzing for a 23.5 ft boat. sooooo nimble.

pic is stock wake '09 x2- extremely mellow.

dont have a pic but i took out the rear hard tanks and plumbed in 750lb bags on each side in rear. and additional 400lb to front with existing hard tank. total 2300lbs. seems like a lot to do but definitely worth it the wake is killer now.

new to forum but am in similar situation.seen your x15 at tx mastercraft it looks nice! last year was my first year to board/own wake boat.i bought a beginner boat a 04 x2 and want something larger and newer.my riding level is i can clear the wake but no tricks.love the 25 but also the flip rear seat of the 30 and 10.options are good i suppose but almost wish they had less boats to make my decision easier!really leaning towards the 25,i like the black/green one they have but wonder if the board wake is too advanced for my beginner skills. anyways good luck with your decision, your boat now is very nice as well!

I have a new X-2. I haven't been behind an 2012 gen X Star, X-15, or new X-30 to compare against, but here's my input. The stock X-2 wake has a decent ramp, but it's pretty small. I added about 2000 lbs extra ballast, and it gets a lot better. It is bigger than my 02 X Star weighted down (although not as steep). The downside of the extra 2000 lbs is at 70 ft, I have to go around 24 mph to keep the wake from curling over. I believe 501s said he could go at slower speeds when weighted with his X-30 and still have a clean wake.

That's been my experience in the 2 as well, very, very hard to keep from curling over at lengths at 70+

With the 30 we can be running 2500lbs of ballast and going 21 and the wake doesn't curl over at 21. Most 23 footers need the extra speed which is fune for advances ridera but mot beginners or when you are learning new tricks. I still cant believe i never got any good pics of the wake fully weighted but it is very good with weight and still drives great too. Only 4 months to go.....

I would say the MUST have options on a new X30 are:
- zero off (duh)
- tracking fins
- reversible seat
- high alt prop
- if you live somewhere cold like canada, heater and heated seats.

Aric'sX15
01-31-2013, 01:16 AM
selected all of those except the high alt prop and heated seat! i got the heater. doesnt get too cold in Texas, my season is about to start :D

501s
01-31-2013, 01:22 AM
I WISH i was in Texas! If you are getting the 5.7 and plan to add more ballast you will want the high alt prop (not an expensive upgrade).

good luck, take the boat out for a test drive you won't be dissappointed.

I don't have any good pics, but I found a video. Boat has 2-3 people in it, full stock ballast, the fly high X-2 rear sacs (around 450 lbs I think), fly high V drive sacs up front under the seat (not sure how much weight, but not much fits in them, maybe 200-300 pounds combined), and 1000 pound fly high triangle sac on the bow seats.

70 ft line length and around 24 mph.

Here's the video and some screen shots from it:

Here is a nice shot from my X2, stock, 400's in the rear and 350 down the walkway. Prob about 4 other people in the boat. Agree with Willy, prob as much ballast as the boat can handle & at 75' the wake will start to curl. We do try to have 1 person in the bow, does help. We run at about 22 mph.

On my Lake (Sylvan), that house would be closer to 1.5 Million. And that's for a lake you can only use for 5 months a year. I wish we had the lakes and prices you guys down south have. All the rich Albertans with Oil money have driven the prices up so much it's sometimes unbelieveable.

I have pictures of my X2 with the custom ballast that Texas ski Ranch put in it, I will post them later today.

My opinion, if I was going to buy a new boat today I would go with a 25 or 10. I went with the X2 because it has a lot of room for its size, perfect boat for the lake I live on, has a very good wakeboard wake(as much as I will ever need) and a good surf wake.

the lake house market in Texas heavily depends on what lake you are on, what city and if you are on a canal or the main body of the lake. that house on lake austin, marble falls, travis, Dunlap, Placid, or Mcqueeney would run anywhere from 900k- 1.5 million depending on what part of the lake, flood zones etc...

on a very small lake that i don't like very much in Mc Queeney texas they are currently selling 1/2 acre lots, 100 ft water front, great spot on the lake for about 800k. My boss just sold his lake house on lake LBJ for 1.1 million, it was 2600 sq feet on a fairly nice lot. Lot of variation.

They made the x15 - for 7 model years - 06-12... Like any model year, they change and well go end of life...
The X2 as you know started in 06 as well, and my thought will not be around next year because of the NXT…. At least those are the rumors.
Even the X1/205v Hull - went end of life... which is probably their bestselling hull.
My opinion, they change things up…. They’ve been successful at doing what they’re doing as it gets us talking and gets us to buy new boats.

Heard this from pretty reliable source. They dumped the 15 because MC needed to hit the surf market running. They were lacking Powers that be sat down and put some numbers together and the 15 had the least volume . Why it worked that way......... Lots of different reasons but in my opinion at the price points MC boats were at anyone looking at a 15 coulda easily upped to a Star. The pickle was all the rage. It was the boat. Back then surfing was an afterthought so the one dimensional aspect of the star didn't matter. Now people want do everything boats. Almost anyone going X2 wanted a garage friendly, tow package and 15 couldn't be that. 21ft boats are still very popular. So viola X10. The 30 also went through hull update but needed something else to keep competing with other mfg's........again more surf related . So viola new X30. The X45 was decent and sold because of the pickle fork so the 30 was the right choice as well in that size range.

To this day I still can't believe the 15 didn't sell more. If you stacked it against any competitors 21 ft models for those years it was twice the boat.

Yeah - makes sense.... I remember riding the 2004 Xstar back in 04 / and was blown away at the overall size. No one at that time had anything in comparison. People had ballast in their boats, but wasn't where it is today.... Between the 04 star and really the 06 X2 - it definitely started the pickle fork boom.... where everyone wanted it.

Regardless - gets us all talking, thinking about our boats in this crap weather....

I also can't believe the 15 didn't sell much better. I think it is mostly because it was caught in the shadow of the new X2 when it was released in '06, and stayed in it throughout it's life.

Yeah I believe this the case also. The whole pickle fork thing just killed it. Add to that in '10 the x-25 came out which absolutely put it in it's grave. Not to mention nobody was really selling many boats 08-09.

It's a good boat I wakeboard behind one regularly and it throws a nice easily rideable wake. We run stock plus another 1500 or so lbs in it. I think it's capable of more than that but that's all my buddy has in it right now.
