I have a 2003 x30 with 580 lbs center locker up front and 2 1100's in the rear lockers. I am still having a bit of a problem developing a good pushing wave. I don't know wht considering all of the others with the same boat say how great the wake is. Should I add a surf tab??? any other ideas?

With that much weight you are doing something wrong. Should be able to create a good wave. What speed are you going?

About 10-12 mph. Today i was planning on moving tha batteries to the starboard side and installing a battery isolator. Good idea??? Or will that make it worse?

Not an easy boat to surf. My X10 requires turning slightly to the surf side to get any push. I dream of the day we can surf going in a straight line!

How deep is the water that you're in. I've found that unless we're in at least 10' of water we can't generate a good wake. The prop wash just end up pushing the back of the boat up. The deeper the water the better.

You fill both side lockers? How do you tip the boat without tabs? Just with people?

I suggest putting the non surfside bag on the seat/in the midship locker surfside!

Are you suggesting with the 1100 lbs sac in the port locker full and the 580 lbs sac in the center locker full adding another 1000lbs in the midship (Where the amps are) locker???

You mentioned tabs. I don't have any. What would you recommend??? How would that change the wake???

I have an '02 X-30 and from my experience you may have too much weight and the weight not distributed optimally. We surf with the following setup and it works pretty well for a hull that was not designed to surf. This is for surfing the port (passenger) side of the boat.

~750 lbs in port rear locker (passenger side)
~500 lbs in ski locker (custom sac - not factory)
~300 lbs in starboard rear locker (drivers side)
~500-700 lbs in triangular bow sac sitting on top of seats (it will hold 1,000 lbs but we've never filled it up)

We go about 9.6 mph.

I also have the L-18 (496) engine so that adds ~200 lbs of additional weight compared to the MCX engine.

Nice! I always have maxed out tge 1100 lbs starboard and the 580 mid ski locker with nothing on the port. So it sounds like i just need a 500-700 lbs up front. Easy fix.

I can add a little more in each rear since im running the mcx.

So i take it your'e not running tabs? Also do you have a pic? Ive never seen a metal flaked x30

I don't have surf tabs but I do have the 2011 MasterCraft Attitude Adjustment Plate (Lenco center trim tab) but I have it up all the way for surfing.

Here's a picture. It's a very unique boat especially with the 8.1L engine.

I undestood that you're filling both 1100lbs sacs in the rear locker at the same time...which I will try next season, but I hve tabs to tip it then. In your case I'd suggest putting some weight up front. In our X-15 We have 600lbs in rear, 450 in center and 350 in front, all surfside, but we surf mostly goofy (starboard)...

...btw I like the tabs and don't think theyre useless, unlike most people here.

Always loved prostars X30!

Thanks Brian. After going to the boat show this year it just reaffirms that I will be keeping this boat until I die. At ~$100K for a new X-30 or X-45 setup like mine, I just can't justify it.

Here are some more recent pictures.

looks much more timeless without the X-30 tribal decal, just classic beauty

Thanks - that's what I was shooting for. The lines on this boat are ART to me.

Hi Prostar205, I was admiring your boat while reading this thread about surf tabs and ballasts. I just purchased a 2004 X30 that I am working to upgrade with larger ballasts for surfing (750, 900 or 1100 rears and an integrated bow sac from Wakemakers). I noticed your tower looks like a newer model. Did you add that aftermarket? I also love the "MasterCraft" lettering vs the Tribal decal. Mine has the decal removed but I am considering adding the letters from Domed Numbers to match yours.

Thanks for the info.

I have same boat 2004 X30. We surf goofy and this is what works well for us. 750 starboard rear full. KGB and IBS bow sac full. Then we 3/4 fill another 750 on the floor behind the driver. Definitely took a while to find the right combination and if one person in the boat moves it can screw the wave up. Definitely a pet peeve of mine when passengers move after we start surfing. Able to go ropeless but make a slight turn to starboard if I notice the rider falling too far back and then they can pop back up close easily with a few pumps. That turn gives a little more push.
I too like the cleaner look but found these decals to be kind of unique and in good shape so keeping them for at least another year. Then probably go more like prostars. His is a great looking boat.

The tower is a 2005 version and was installed at the factory. This boat was owned by a factory engineer from July 2001 to Nov 2004. He did all the upgrades when they came up. The MASTERCRAFT decal is from 2010 and I got it direct from my dealer.

Thanks Drballenbc! That's great info. As a new boat owner, I've got a lot to learn. I was in contact with WakeMakers and they have a 900lb fatsac (currently out of stock but due in soon) that I think I may upgrade too. The previous owner had done some upgrades toi the ballast bags, but these newer sacs can add so much more weight. I'm excited for the possibilities. It's an awesome boat.

Thanks Prostar! I'll keep posting as I'm slowly making this boat my own. The dealership and Wakemakers think the 1100lb sacs are slightly too big and can't be filled all the way so they recommend the 750's or 900's in back. I don't think I'll upgrade the KGB, but will add the IBS in the bow to compensate and help lengthen the wake a bit. I hope to update you all soon.

I believe you can fit an 1100 in the rear but that you need to reinforce the divider on the engine side as they will push it up against the exhaust otherwise. Pretty sure there is a thread on here about how to do that but if a 900 will go without having to reinforce the divider then that should work well. Have really enjoyed playing with the ballast and testing this year. Got a long list of upgrades for next year. FYI. Don't think that ever ends. This forum is the best.

we have 850 in port rear locker, center hard tank full, and we make sure on person sitting in middle to front on surf side. You would be amazed how clean one adult changes the wake, but i do have to use my center tab at least half to full down.

if i don't use center trim tab (only one i have) my wake is all white wash, don't really understand why,,

Oh and the 850 is on top of whatever is factory in the hard tank, we do only fill the surf side and center front tank. Just to clarify

I have the same boat but a 2002, I have a 900 in the port locker. I took out the stock ballast tank to make room for the bag. I also fill the stock KGB in the center locker. I surf at 10.4 mph and have no problem. My starboard side has my dual batteries.

I used wakemakers also, they told me go with the 900 also, fits well when full.
