Always wanted a Laguna Blue M3, older 911, Wooden Chriscraft and other toys but dont have time for em. Instead of those this is my full time hobby (besides boat)

Just sold the old car a couple months ago. This is the new ride. (For those unfamilar it is all carbon wrapped tube frame with a race prepped GSXr 1000 air shift; 750 pounds, 180-200hp - Should go about 175 +/- at Road America classed as DSR in SCCA)

I should have never sold this car, it was tons of fun. But, it would have been terribly underpowered today @ about only 325hp; however, it was only ~2600 lbs, so light weight was key. Plus, the car always got a lot of attention - I always got complimented on it when I took it out for a drive. 1993 FD3 3rd Gen Mazda RX-7.

No pictures, but I sold my 68 Bronco to buy my 88 Prostar. Even though I occasionally regret selling the old beast, our family has spent more time together in the boat in the 1.5 years we've owned it than we did the entire 15 years of owning the Bronco. I figure that's a good decision there!!
Not mine, but this one is in about the same cosmetic condition, maybe a little worse.

I'd swapped out the D30 for a 44 with disks, added power steering and hydroboost brakes, replaced the stock front seats with power seats from an 80's T-Bird and rewired it and installed electric wipers in place of vacuum wipers. I had planned on putting in an EFI 5.0 and 5-speed transmission, but it seemed that I never had enough time or money to do it. It was a great summer driver, but I wouldn't want to try to pull a boat with it any significant distance. :(

How do u like the sc430?

I managed to find the SC used with 28K on the clock (2003 model), so it was affordable...

I love the car - comfortable, quiet, all the creature comforts, and pretty fast for a 4000# hard top convertible car.... it does not handle like a sports car, but i never tracked the old honda, so its cool... on taking her to speed, i have had her at 140 mph without issue and it handled it very nicely - would not have been scared to take it higher. compared to the S2000, the S was SCARY at 125 - I didnt have the guts to take it higher.

I only drive the SC 1-2x a month, the rest of the time I drive the 194,000 mile tacoma pickup....

I have been a CCA member for 10 years, served on the Iowa Chapter board of directors for 3 years, and was named member of the year 2006. Yeah you could say im in the club. Its a family affair as well, if you add in parents and siblings we have 10 total.

The E36 M3/4 I posted was my first one as well, and was a daily driver until about 6 years ago when it got the track treatment. Its a 6 pt cage and window net away from being legal for IP in CCA club racing. The pic I posted is on our half mile Nascar track here in Cedar Rapids where the SCCA holds a few very fast autox events every year. The car likes the big tracks a lot more, but my wallet likes autox more.
I love my E46 M3, but its borderline too heavy to enjoy. Nothing like dropping the top and stirring the gears myself with 333hp at 8000 rpm. That S54 puts a smile on my face every morning. The E92 seems to be the logical evolution of the E46 with the high revving NA powerplant, but Im afraid it might be too heavy. Im sure when the E46 starts to look a bit dated I will shop the E92s but not yet.

Yes, they are delicate. Anything more than a cat-back exhaust, high flow intake and intercooler and you are going to need to open the motor up. It would have required new apex seals on the rotors (pistons), keep in mind it is a rotary motor. While you are in there, you might as well go to a single turbo and upgrade the clutch as well...

The turbos really need to be cooled down before shutting off if you have driven it hard at all, otherwise you will start seeing drops of oil in the coolant.

Bottom line - keep it stock or near and treat it right and it will do you good. Do otherwise and get your checkbook out.

Yep, the 1.8t. The new 2.0 has a lot of potential.

The 2014 2.0T has a ton of potential with the injector on the intake manifold to get rid of the carbon deposits.

Truth be told, about 10K after I got my car (at 40K miles purchased), and 2K miles after the tune, I had an injector stick open and unseat a ring in that chamber. End result was a new head unit and me scrambling to hide the tune. After it all, I got it covered under the ptrain warranty and reapplied the tune with a health dose of aftermarket warranty for the next 50K miles. Can't be too careful.

I am more of a NA guy and not sure I like the idea of the triple turbo I6 coming in the new M3.

You'll get used to it . . . quickly. :)

I take it you had turbo timers?

I tend to take it very easy on my little turbo before parking and take my time putting the sunglasses up, turning off the radio, a/c just in case.

No timers on the car except me. It was not a daily driver, so I had the luxury of time when I drove it. After all, I only put about 3K miles/year on it.

2012 Nissan GTR. Was 530hp stock. Now it's almost 900hp. Video is was only ~720hp. Slow compared to my 1500hp cars but still fun:

'05 Audi S4, I sold this one a few years back to buy my first MC. I loved this car but I wasn't looking forward to doing the timing chains and clutch as I was approaching 100k miles.

'93 VW Fox, as odd as this car is I can't get enough of it on the track. My friend and I run this in Chump car events around the southeast. Fully caged and track prepped.

I just picked up an E30 for a daily driver. My first taste of BMW's and I'm already loving it. I'm having a hard time leaving it alone.

Welcome to the dark side. Easily the best BMW ever created and still thousands of people keeping them alive. I daily drove my 88 325is for 6 years, went to an E36 convertible DD for 2, and now Im back to an E30 DD, the red one I posted at the beginning of the thread.
Heres a picture of my fathers 89 325is which is his current track rat:

Nice Corrado! What were you going to have to do to a timing chain on the S4 at 100K miles? Tensioner issues?

It's more of a PM item, but yes it's usually time for tensioners around 100k. Here's what your faced with: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v669/vwjrm/image_zpsa9f1bf6f.jpg
You do as much maintenance as you can at this point.

I have an aftermarket warranty up to 100,000 miles. Maybe I'll just thrash it and see if I can get the tensioner to get to the point of needing to be replaced before the warranty ends at 100,000 miles. :)

The way that stuff usually works is you beat the hell out of it, only to have it not need anything until 103,000 and then you have a catastrophic failure out-of-warranty.

Here's my daily driver........Seems like there is a German theme goin on here...

I had a 2001 Nimbus grey coupe. My fav car ever. 225 hp, 6 speed, quattro, fast as stink....(and why I now drive a crappy, wimpy rabbit). Accidently hit 130 once (country highway)....had it up to 139 or so at Road America (Thats too fast for no cage, bars, belts, etc)

Bought it with 60k for 16k. Ran it up to 160k, and sold it for 6k before things got really expensive (open disclosure to the seller that it probably needed a clutch and other expensive maint). Overall, it was actually less maintenance than the rabbit and had a lower tco to date...

kbrighton is that a 633?

The old one I posted? Its a 79 733i, which was identical to the 633i but with 4 doors. It had the big 6 and a 4-speed manual and was bulletproof. Bought it for $200 when I was in HS, then fixed it up and took it to college. I had to spare my M3 from the horrors of college dorm-style apartment parking lots, with no garages and idiot 18 year old girls hitting everything. Had it a couple years, sold it for the black E30 I also posted.

I have a 2012 CC black on black that I just love.
Just realized I've never taken a picture of it and today its buried in snow.
Have to wait for spring after it gets cleaned up.
