lockouts done and the first games of the season are tommorow. really excited to finally watch again.

anyone have any predictions?

GT500 MC

Prediction: Attendance will be down 30-40% due to losing the "average"-Joe fan due to the strike and hockey has lost whatever small momentum it may have had going for it. Huge Wings fan but could really care less now--maybe will watch the playoffs....we'll see.
Strikes simply can ruin a sport, at least in the short to medium-term.

Go Wild! Finally a chance to get into the playoffs, should be fun to watch Parise and Suter. I've missed NHL hockey, but I gotta admit I didn't miss it as much as I thought I would. Especially with the U of M Gophers playing so well these days.

Season ticket holder since 1998 - I may go to some games as the rest of this season was pre paid. Not too exited as the fans are kicked to the curb by the Billionairs and Millionaires.

Wings suck. Go Preds.

You over paid for Suter - watched him every game since 2003, was even at the draft when the Preds picked him. He is solid but, 100+M. AND your owner, Leipold, was our last owner..good luck with him

Granted no Cup in our cabinet - but in the past 5 yrs Preds have one of the best records in all the NHL, top road wins, made it to the playoffs in 8 out of 9 season (any Canada teams say that...the Leafs havent made it in 8yrs straight) Goaltending..defense...

oh, and I got to see the Wings lose, in Nashville, in 5 playoff games last season, got to see Lindstrom leave the ice for the last time :)

Let's see, they have made the playoffs 7 times.... They have 1 retired # (gretzky whom is retired by the league) they have no division, conference or league championships. They are copying the Red Wings in regards to the octopus by throwing catfish on the ice! Not to mention rich in tradition and history... They have a lot to remember!

I see it was a mistake and not intentional. But much respect deserved to one of the greatest defensman of all time. No matter which team you're a fan of.

Met him a few years ago and he has more scars on his face, arms, and rib cage than I could have imagined from pucks, hooking, battles in front of the net, etc. Most guys I've played with and met through hockey for the past 30+ years have scars and wounds, but not like that.

You are either kidding, or really don't know the Wings too well. Wings are a system team, if Jordan fits and the price is right, they'll sign. Has nothing to do with where he previously played.

Might think about showing a little respect to a franchise that has won the same amount of Stanley Cups (2) in the last 10 years as the Preds have won playoff series. That's right. Two playoff series wins in franchise history.

penguins and kings in the final. (are you kidding?)

they also predicted the wings not to even make the playoffs, and if they do babcock is a Saint. (WOW!)

and to top it off, they wouldnt stop talking about crosby and malkin. it was like the next coming of Christ.

It's ESPN. You can't really take what they say literal. Its all about the SEC in College football and when it comes to Hockey, Bettman's poster child Cindy Criesby is always at front. Wings are going to have some challenges. Lidstrom left some skates that can never be filled, but i believe we will make the playoffs but the run might be short. Howard was playing amazing last year. And you can not count out the Wings Offense. With the way Z and Brunner were playing together should get some things going not to mention Datsyuk in the Mix along with Dirty Bert, Helm, and Filppula. And lets not forget that unlike other teams, the Wings have cap space, so i would not be surprised to see a beneficial trade coming up soon.

i agree completely.

im just simply saying, sportscenter canada lives off of hockey and should have the best "nhl analysts" around.

they've had the whole lockout to think about things and all they could honestly come up with is:

1. crosby/malkin top scores.

2. wings no playoff run.

3. kings and pens in the final. (ex stanley cup winners vs. crosby/malkin) who came up with this? a 15 year old?

Being born and raised in Calgary I have to always back the Flames. BUT....I'm so sick of the millionaires and billionaires whining about money and contracts that I couldn't really care less if the NHL completely folded. The caliber of hockey and "drive" of the players is much more evident if you look at other hockey leagues!

Wings had 77, or so, years to win their Cups. Several of the Cups coming where there were only 6 teams in the NHL. Give the Preds another 60 yrs.
No one ever gives us respect, fine with me, I will match our record in the past 9 yrs with anyone. Our luck in the playoffs have not been there though.

The Wings could have gotten Suter or Weber but couldnt muster the cash. I guess they are saving it for a new stadium 8p

You are seriously delusional. Very few teams have the cap space that the Wings currently have. They will find better ways to spend 100M then to drop it on one player.

And you neglected to address my post that stated the Wings have as many Cups in the last ten years as the Preds have playoff series wins. That's a fair comparison, especially considering you state that you will match their record over the last nine years to anyones.

Oh yeah, match the records up. I bet its not what you think it is....

Wings - 448-195-89 = 991 points, 110/season average. No seasons under 100 points.
Preds - 385-260-82 = 863 points, 95/season average. Five seasons under 100 points (that's right, 5 of 9 seasons under 100 points).

Come back with a rebuttal when your teams "luck" changes in the playoffs. :D

This puts the Preds 5th overall since 2000. I feel that is very respectable for a team that entered the league in 1998. Head to head with the Wings - I feel (no research yet) the Preds have won the matchups the last few years, and knocked you out of the playoffs last season :)
Montreal has won more Cups by far - does this make them a better team now?

Wings fans always have red colored glasses on. 8p

Has Montreal won any cups this Century? :D

I only counted Cups since 2000. Making the Preds eligible for all the same hardware that the Wings have won. How many times has Nashville won the Central Division? Answer: None. How many times has Detriot. Answer: 8 of last 10.

Detroit has also won Presidents Trophy 4 times since 02.

I'm originally from Saskatchewan. First world junior hockey championship I remember, Steve Yzerman was a standout. Decided then that he was my favourite player(I was 5). Followed him with the Peterborough Petes to the "Dead Things" of the mid '80s. Been a Wings fan ever since. A model franchise that has always had an exemplary captain as long as I've followed them. Their owner believes in winning more than making a buck, believes in putting a quality product on the ice and the diamond (too bad he doesn't own the Lions lmao), so I've never had a reason to change teams.

Totally understand - Yzerman was a great player, agree on your comments.

I was a Whaler fan (I was born in Conn and follwed the Whalers) we know what happened there. Preds opened shop in 1998 two years after I moved to town, so here I am. The Preds have done a lot of good for the community, before - no hockey for kids - now there are many many teams for youth development, many doors have been opened for opportunity in a quality sport. I have a good friend, his son is being scouted by JR teams from Canada.

Season starts tomorrow...we have the NEW Jackets (as they are being called) coming to town.

The season is under way, finally. Preds sold out both home games this past week, on Saturday the place was full (17,113) and rocking well before the puck dropped. Good to see for the local merchants too, fans = $ for them.

Overall we look good, think we will have a good team this year. Tonights game vs St Louis should be a good one; the win in Minn. was big the other night.

Howard is going to take a beating if your D doesnt get healthy. On back to back games Trotz is going with Mason, he will probably play 1/3 + of the season.

interesting game with kings and oilers lastnight. very questionable referee calls. and huge overkill celly for Yakupov scoring his goal just before the 3rd period buzzer. dont get me wrong. happy for the kid but its the third game of the season relax and celly like you've done it before. either way the oilers are getting more and more interesting to watch. dont like them but they are going to be a challenge for teams in the near future i have a feeling.

As long as the canucks median age is less than 80, they should handle the stars fairly easily...

I watched most of the 2nd period. Weird game with all of the penalties. Especially since neither team could score 5 on 3. With all of the offense on both teams, the nets should have been full, especially the Oilers' net since I have 4 Kings in my fantasy draft.

The finish would have been pretty exciting, I guess I shouldn't have turned it off. I saw the highlights this morning. I loved the celebration by Yakupov. He's obviously a very passionate guy. I seem to remember some TV clips from draft time showing him having a lot of personality. Even though it was only game 3 of the season, it was obviously a huge goal in that young kid's life, maybe the biggest so far, who knows. Especially after he blew his huge scoring chance in period 2, he wanted to redeem himself and he did in a big way.

We Flames fans are supposed to hate the Oilers, but I can't help but be excited for them. I'd love for them to finally do well, just as long as the Flames stay just a little bit better (I might be dreaming there). Flames vs Oilers tomorrow night on Hockey Night in Canada should be pretty fun.

The local Calgary sports radio had Theoren Fleury on this morning talking about the celebration. Fleury loved it, he said he might try to catch up with Yakupov at the rink tomorrow to congratulate him. It's good that Yakupov did the knee slide against LA, cause if he did it here tomorrow it would be seen more as an Eff-U to Calgary than just spontaneous excitement.

Here's clips of the 2 celebrations. Fleury's goal was a game winning overtime goal in the playoffs, and he says was the biggest goal of his career. I'm assuming Yakupov will have some much bigger goals to come, but I don't blame him for being excited.

im just saying for a young guy early in his chel career it was alot at once, and being a player myself i know the poor sucker will get chirped for it a ton. maybe he couldnt help himself with all the hype, i dont know.

kinda like when rupp did the jagr salute during 12' winter classic. philly wouldnt let that sh*t go and they beaked rupp constantly.

Good point about the chirping. Could be a sh*t storm for the kid. If he did it against the Flames, like Rupp did against the Flyers, it would be a different ball game, no?

Preds out due to a ton of injuries - most of our top players were out (and some still are)
The players who should have scored did not. The last month of the season we were playing with most of our farm team - I didnt know most of the team. We were right there, and Erat walked away.
The bright side - healthy next season, all the young guys have had a crack at the NHL, Forsberg looks to be the real deal (needs muscle and learn more) and we have the #4 pick this year.

Wings may not get swept - Howard better have a career series. Tootoo will surprise you in the playoffs - I do miss him. Good guy too.

The teams I do not want to win the Cup - Wings, Wild and any team from Canada

I agree with no hockey in the South. Not So much Nashville, they have fan support etc, however Why does Phoenix need a team? They don't even get natural ice to form and they have no fan support even in the playoffs. When the Wings play them it looks like another Home game at the Joe with all the red in the stands.

The Bruins will have a very hard time now that Hossa is back too. Sharp just got off injury not too long ago. We didn't have that last April. We are on fire now and at full strength.

I'm not going to give a guess just yet on how many games the series will go. The Bruins had it easy with Pittsburgh. They aren't the dominating team they once were with Jagr. Especially since Jaromir plays for the Bruins now. But he has scored no goals thusfar as a Bruin.

Chicago will have another thing coming with Jagr. Undeniably my favorite player of all time is Jaromir Jagr. It will be nice watching this series as a Hawks fan. :D:D

Bruins played pretty well but the Penguins self destructed. I was hoping to see the Penguins go but they didn't deserve it after the way they played. That being said that last save on Malkin by Chara was epic.

Frankly I expected more from the Kings too. Some of them played great but others were lackluster. Brown had some good hits but needed more offense. Richards and Quick looked good.
Glad to see Chicago go and I hope they beat the Bruins even though I wish Jagr the best like Traxx does.

Should be a good series between these two teams. Both seemed to be much more fired up throughout the lineup than their opponents did last week.

I will agree on his play during the season, but the Conn Smythe goes to the playoff MVP. He showed up for 2 maybe 3 games in the post season.........was absent the rest. Aside from a couple tap ins off the hard work of his teammates he really did nothing. Bicks or Sharpie all the way.

Now Crosby....... I can't stand him. He is my #1 hated player. That guy cross checks, slashes, and cries like a baby every game. He clips guys with high sticks, hacks , and cheats on draws like crazy, yet somehow never gets called. The minute someone touches him tho they are gone or a bully. That punch to the face from Chara to his broken jaw was priceless. Hey grab the big guy's jersey and scrum w him, you best be ready. All around in this series I felt the Bruins were playing dirty hockey. And in this last game I for sure was starting to thing it was rigged with all the cheap shots from Boston and bs calls on the Hawks. Then the shorthanded goal by Toews was amazing.

Fair enough but it could have gone a few ways--Sharp, Kane, Bickell, Crawford, and Keith were all strong. The rest of their "off" days are not as bad as Kane's. I think what got it for him was that he had some big points later in the playoffs.

Krejci had far and away the most points and Horton was +20 in the playoffs. Would have been a tough call between them and Rask on that side too.
