Just tossing a feeler thread up for my '84 Stars & Stripes. I have a feeling I'm just missing it since it's January and I'm forgetting how awesome it is but I figured I would throw it up anyway since it's on my mind. It's in winter storage up in Michigan right now but I could potentially show anyone with interest.

1984 S&S
I believe it has just over 800 or so hours, but I can't remember the exact number!

Interior is in pretty good condition other than the engine cover which is peeling back around the sides. Side panels sag a bit but not too bad!

I bought it last summer and absolutely love it. It ran great all summer, I didn't have to do much other than some precautionary things that I figured I would do before I tossed it in the water for the year.

I added a stereo and 4 new speaker, sort of a temporary job that I planned on doing right in the coming months before summer 2013 but I guess we'll see.

With all of that said, I would sell it for the right price but it might depend on my mood that day!

I'll ask $6,500obo

The obvious question: Why sell it?

Still not sure I want to! We don't get too many warm months up here so that's about the only reason I would consider selling it.

Overheated? (Based on the warped plastic on the back of the block, this is just a guess.) I think I remember this being for sale in the last 1-2 years, and seeing threads about issues with it. I could be thinking of a different boat in the same color scheme, but the grip tape on the top of the back end seems familair.

Definitely not overheated! Love how forum rumors start!

Didn't know he was on the boards when I bought it! I found it on Craigslist last summer.

It's a feeler thread guys, I don't need to sell it, there are no issues with it, I just put it up in case it's what someone wants!

If not, it goes right back in the water after winter.

Working 6 days a week and then driving 100 miles to use the boat for a day and a half gets old!

Something melted the ballast / reset cover.

I didn't mean any disrespect on your ad. I was just suggesting he may have seen it from there. It's a great looking boat and looks very well cared for. I was considering looking into that boat for myself but decided not too as I didn't want to stretch myself thin on cash. Wish you the best with your sale or if you decide to keep it as it looks like an excellent well taken care of stars and stripes

Could it be 29 hears of engine heat? Neighbors '83 looks identical.

where is boat located?

It's in Watervliet, MI on Paw Paw Lake. I kept it up there in heated storage.

Like I said before, I don't need to sell it by any means. It may even come back to Chicago for a new interior, the boat is mechanically perfect.

No offense taken!

It's a great boat, I doubt I'd sell it anyway! Just figured I would post a great S&S example up for the community if anyone is in the market. If I could get up there and use it more it wouldn't even be a thought in my mind!

That's my old boat!! It was a runner for sure. I would have to say it never overheated, unless the valve covers and intake were repainted. I say that because when the pcm's overheat the valve covers look like they have varnish on them. They turn A shade darker. When I traded my 82 in for a new 87 the mastercraft dealer asked if my boat had overheated, just by looking at valve covers. My 83 overheated after the water pump belt flew off when the boat was running. It was hot enough to melt holes in the exhaust hoses. I ran the 83 another 12-13 years with never having an engine problem.
At one time maybe the solonoid took a dump? Heck, even the stickers are on it. Cheap plastic? That boat ran great, strong and the fiberglass was by far the nicest I have ever seen for a boat more than a few years old. Most of the interior was original except the seat bottoms. On many of the dashes of that era, the skier times and picture of the skier are faded or un readable. This one looks like it had hardly ever been in the sun, which is exactly like the fiberglass looks. Somebody will get a nice boat!

Didn't know you were on here Tim! Thanks for the post!

I highly doubt I'll end up selling it! Driving around in a few other Stars & Stripes this past summer made me realize how great of a boat I actually got!

The cover on my 82 looks the same as well and it hasn't overheated. Engine heat and time takes its toll o the cover.

A solid classic in a nice color.....I say keep it!
Unless you're a die-hard course skier, then upgrade in 2014 when the new Prostar comes out! (but it doesn't sound like you're a die-hard) :D

X3 on the meant no offense. Been around lots of Stars and Stripes since 1981, never saw one like that. Was curious. Didn't mean to start any rumors. Love PawPaw. Did some skiing behind a row boat with twin 7.5 evinrudes when I was about 10. Aunt and Uncle are on Portage now. I say keep it for sure.

I drove an '04 towards the end of summer and wasn't a fan! The power steering takes away too much feel!

No worries! Have some friends in Portage! Paw Paw is a great lake, plenty of room to enjoy the SS!

The stereo needed some help! All new speakers and a new deck as well though so problem solved!
