Fuel sender unit

Anyone pulled their unit to test the fuel gauge reading. My gauge pushes past "F" when I crank the boat and a friend suggested that the float may be stuck since I winterized it for so long with a nearly full tank.

When I first got the boat out of storage and started her up, the gauge wouldn't register at all. Then after about 5 minutes of idling, it worked. Since then, it has goofed up. I just want to test the unit before buting a new one.

Is it as simple as unscrewing the unit from the top of the tank and moving the float around while looking at the gauge?

Yep. Just remove it, move it up and down, and watch your gaugue.

It's a very easy job.

Are you sure that you have a solid ground on the fuel gauge? Make sure, before you make any purchases as, my gauge was off and tightening the ground simplified the problem.
