Can someone help me with this?

My sending unit must be stuck, the last few times we were out this summer the gauge never moved.

How do I get to the unit to replace it? Is it under that very rear cushion at the back of the boat?

I dont want to break anything so I thought i should ask before I do anything.

Thanks!

Check the connections too.

Sounds like a sending unit. Bad connections will read full or empty on a fuel gauge. I suppose you could have a stuck gauge. To test the gauge, disconnect the sending unit and the gauge will show full or empty (I never remember which). Then ground the gauge wire and you should see opposite.

This thread should help once you located the sender.

Well i got everything off, except the sending unit its self, am i going to have to remove the tank to get the sending unit out?
And if so could i just adjust it a bit so that i could get the unit up and through the top hole?

If i have to do something with the tank what do i need to take off to move it around? Looks like there are 4 brackets that hold the tank in place.

Yup, 4 brackets to remove, then slide the tank forward till the sender can slide out. It will not fit through the hole for the tow bracket, so don't bother taking that out. You'll also have to remove the filler hose from the tank, and possibly the vent hose depending on how long it is.

Yep it was just as you say, I had to remove the fill hose&vent, as well se the mounting brackets. Pretty easy.

Everything went well removing the sending unit.

It was frozen in place and the magnets had come updone.

I fixed them in place and re glued them. The float moves up and down smoothly now.

New problem though......

The gauge wont move, it it sits below the empty mark, doesnt move at all when the unit is attached, I have tried it several ways and nothing......

Any ideas?

I had the battery unhooked while doing this so i dont think i damaged anything...

Also what are the three small screws for on the top of the sending unit?

Update,
I went out and hot-wired the gauge and everything worked.
The problem is that the positive (purple wire) isnít getting any juice at the gauge.
When I hot wire it to the positive terminal of the battery it everything works fine. Also it sounds like the fuel pump kicks on.

So I removed the ignition area and the purple wire is connected to ignition switch, and it has good connection.
I canít figure out what caused this, wonder if I knocked a wire lose. I did recently add a depth finder.

Glad you got everything working. Pretty satisfying, knowing you fixed it yourself and saved yourself a bunch of money as well.
