I picked this prostar up from a guy on a local lake here in greenville sc.its a one owner boat but had been very neglected. it sat on the water at his dock since 2005 and was covered with algae and everything else imaginable as well as some serious dock rash.the motor was trashed with sand on two cylinders and locked up to say the least. this is very unfortunate since the hour meter only showed 348 hours.I finally got the hull cleaned up and the stripes repainted with imron.then sanded and buffed the rest.I dropped in a new motor and had to clean up some wiring. I took it to the lake last week and it runs great! Of course I had to install an acme 541 prop because I love how they perform.so with my part being done I took a four hour trip yesterday and left the boat at viper customs in Tennessee to let Jim put his touches on a total interior overhaul..I can't wait to get it back on the water!!!

thanks for workin to save her..keep up the great work! Can't wait to see interior.

Seized up with sand? What do you think happened....sucked up sand near beach and overheated?

What kind of masking is that? Is it pressure sensitive or heat sensitive once you decide which part to remove?

I'm thinking the sand is from the bottom of the lake when they let the water level off for owners to do dock work.he never removed the boat from the water so the intake fitting was on the bottom of the lake possibly. I masked the rub rail with standard 3/4 inch 3m tape and that is plastic sheeting from Lowes.the white paper is standard paint masking paper on a roll.the motor also had a cracked block at cylinder 7 and two freeze plugs were out.luckily I already had a motor out of a supra ts6m with 500 hours on it so all I had to do was change over the marinization parts from PCM to indmar off of the original motor.I then put new belts hoses and all new ignition and tune up parts as well as new seal and impeller on the rwp.the tranny had a front seal leak which I replaced also.

Thanks...didn't see the tape right away cuz of the color of the paint. How did you trip plastic...before taping or after taping... have some work to do on my benz..and like the plastic cover idea...I'm a real noob when it comes to restoration..and want to learn more...it's going to be my retirement plan... when I get old I will restore Mastercraft's.... :D

Mike thank u for fixing the pics man that was driving me insane! I used fine line tape on the stripes then came back and freehand taped the plastic down using regular automotive medium tack tape.thank you guys for all the compliments and support! Its been a fairly involved project but I enjoy it.I'm going crazy now because its at viper and I have nothing to tinker with!

Do you cut the plastic before or after taping...sorry for dumb question...before sounds logical...but not sure... :)

Is it at Viper customs?

what is viper going to do?

reftech

Viper is doing the interior and carpet.it was missing the observers seat and side panels so they are going to reconstruct those. they are also going to powdercoat all vents, grab rails, and the pylon.

Madcity where are u located? Is his supra the red and white one they done? I'd be more than happy to help on your boat if you're close by! Nkorep do it man haha!! I was gonna do the interior myself as I did my last boat (ski Nautique) but the machine I have is more aggravating to use and buying another one would blow the budget and I could have viper do it for the same money.

That is really quite incredible! The material is similar to the newer boats and the color choices are amazing! What kind of dollars are we talking to do all that work? They really did a nice job.....

reftech
12-20-2012, 02:17 PM
Hahaha yea I need to figure out how to straighten the pics out..I don't the powder coated parts will get any hotter to the touch than before. all the hardware was black originally anyway.that's exactly right the material is silver carbon fiber with brushed aluminum color inserts and metallic blue piping and stitching. viper did the upholstery and carpet along with a small Gelcoat repair and powdercoated the pylon, grab rails and all vents for 3045.00 total.I couldn't have asked for better!

I installed when I got home this afternoon but wasn't able to get a good pic due to the glare from the polished center.. It's far better than the old worn challenger wheel that was original to the boat!

It's the original owners aura in the boat... ;) It's an indication of MC-OCD being off the charts... ;)

reftech
01-16-2013, 10:45 AM
Hahaha mike the original owner's neglect is why this boat was in such disarray! This was a one owner boat with 360 hours and u seen what it looked like when I got it. He has owned a 2001 ps190 for several years now and it's in fairly rough condition with some major Gelcoat blistering from sitting on the water. Such a shame.. Smh

That is funny....it is a shame... after being part of this forum and lurking on the others... there are users and enthusiasts. I stopped shakin' my head awhile back. Their neglect is our gain...unless of course the lafy is beyond help.

I would enjoy looking at the demographics with those who have means to buy new-or newer and how they care for these crafts vs. those who can only afford to buy second hand and how they care for these craft. Not pointing any fingers now at anyone - just curious... I know the people on the forums care because they take the time share, acknowledge, repair and most enjoyably debate the use of materials.

I can't wait to do more restoration on my 1995. My list is about 6K right now... :)

reftech
01-16-2013, 06:33 PM
I agree totally with u mike! It's amazing how many boats u see on the water and shake your head at the owners total neglect to maintain them. But you're absolutely right their neglect is our gain as enthusiasts. I'm just glad I'm able to do the mechanic work myself or I wouldn't be able to afford the hobby. I'm at 5600 on this boat right now but three quarters of it are new now so I should be able to use it for a fee seasons and still do ok on resale. Now if I can find the right s&s project I will be happy lol... Cheers!!
