The dubious honor of receiving the Broken Ski is bestowed on a Metroplex Ski Club member each year for some blunderous action they have been given credit for - whether deserved or not... The recipient adds an item to the ski to signify the act that earned this distinction...

So far for 2012, we have four nominees:

Nominee #1 has been dubbed the most injury prone... As described by another member:

1. Boat prop cut-stitches (In His Wakes)
2. Cross bow bruise while at Spring Fling
3. Hitting head on bottom side of boat platform-knot (In His Wakes)
4. Wood fell on head while working on jump. Gash in head.
5. MCL damage to right knee while jumping. (doctor ordered Physical therapy)
6. Spider bite possibly scorpion while at spring fling. Major infection -tested for staff.
7. ...... See nominee #2 below....

============

Nominee #2 comes as a by-product of nominee #1 because the story was being hushed up to avoid a nomination:

7. [Name] was giving [Name] a "tutorial" as [Name] called it prior to a ski show. She is on his shoulders and he falls backward coming over rollers. Thinking he could pull out of it, he holds onto the rope. As a result the rope pulled on her leg from the top all the way to her ankle. [Name] had a bruise that just about covered her entire leg.

==========

Nomination #3 goes to a member who was going all out early in the year at our annual Spring Fling campout... What we thought was a simple ankle injury ended up being a broken bone and the end of the season...

=========

Nomination #4 is going to one of the clubs longest time members and show skiers for the sinking of the portable jump at the end of a show! I had the responsible party list dwindled down to 3 based on a process of elimination and what I heard members say about it... Yes, I finally have details and I have now the name of the person ultimately responsible! Sweet!

Now, I want a few more nominees and stories... This is going to be fun telling the stories I have gathered at our xmas party next month!

LMAO - you didnt forget did you... Luckily, my GF and Kyle were the ONLY ones that knew and they both kept their mouths shut...

Now, I will say I should have won it 2 years in a row... 2005 and 2006... And I SHOULD have won it in 2011.

2005: I broke my ski fin - I made it to 4 ball - head 1st... I lost to another member who wakeboarded into shore!

2006: The trailer for the boat at Ski haven fell on my foot and broke all my toes... but I also bent my trailer axle when I side swiped a t-post... I was a sure winner....

2011: Should have been a closer race... I mangled a garage door with my GFs boat tower... Oh and then trying to hammer the door back into its track, I managed to smash my finger hard enough the fingernail turned black and fell off... Also in 2011, one of our founding fathers who I have skied with since 2006 tore his ACL doing something stupid at the state fair, and my GF broke her trailer tongue when we were pulling the boat out of the Brazos!

I only know one story. Thats becuase Mark has told it to me about 10 times. The Ol' trailer on my foot story. Maybe thats why I don't care about the award. He burned me out already..

I don't have to open the thread but I'm intrigued to know what stupid stuff you might say today Mark. lol

Thats funny........ No Taylor is not nominated and neither am I. I think that everyone knows that if they try to give that POS award to me that I will terminate the ongoing tradition and it will either be burned in a campfire or tossed into the nearest dumpster. The award is so stupid.

I find it interesting that not all winners of the award did something stupid. Example nominee #3 hurt himself skiing. He did not hurt himself like one of our members did by breaking an arm while trying to rollerblade or skateboard in his empty swimming pool or like one other member who left his boat tied up next to the dock with the dock line attached to the throttle. Next thing you know is the boat is in gear and ends up on the dock with the prop chopping away at the walk way. The owner meanwhile had left the boat and was at the ramp trying to retrieve his trailer and was 400yards away and totally helpless at the time. Or like another member who left her car in gear and got out......car was 4' under water very soon after she got out of it and was under the skier path around 3 ball.

I also think that if you hurt yourself doing something stupid and yes you know you are hurt but you ski through the broken bones then your nomination should be voided.

The entire award is GHEY

Kyle, you fail to see the true meaning of the award. The award was meant to be a fun thing, and once again you (and taylor for that matter) blow it completely out of proportion.

The same way people in the club compete to see who the best skier, jumper, tricker, boarder surfer or footer, is the same way we compete to not do the most boneheaded thing each year (or at least do a great job covering it up) :D

So, lighten up Francis, this is all IN FUN.

Did Mark just tell some one to lighten up and accuse them of blowing something out of proportion? Kyle-Does that mean my win is voided?

You should know that I would NEVER vote a friend to receive that pos ski and I consider you a friend.....

Now the rest of the club may find humor what happened but I didn't.

Since I don't remember the reason why you won the award I will just say. The sky ski could have happened to anyone so whoever voted for a BSA was retarded. But you did break the skyski and if I had done the same thing and won the BSA then I can assure everyone that the BSA would be ashes. If you got it from Oleson ruining you knee, well then the entire club that voted the award to you are ars holes. In either case I think yours should be expunged from the record.

I never voted any kind of BSA award to you.

You consider Mike a friend? Maybe we need to rethink our own friendship! Nah, Mikes a pretty good guy (for a show skier anyways!) Haha - JK http://vipstylecars.com/forums/images/smilies/smiley-rofl.gif

Mike won the BSA because of the jump clinic incident! And yes, he deserved it last year also because he sky skied with the lake low in late summer in a place he knew was iffy! He could have let go... So a nomination was definitely warranted.

And Kyle, if you ever win the award, I guarantee your name will be on it and you'll never gain possession of it. :)

Yep, I'm known for saying stupid stuff. I guess its my cross to carry. lol

You've perfected it as an art form Taylor, keep up the good work! ;)

I am a 2 time winner...just can't remember what the 2nd one was for. The sky ski was not due to low lake but people pulling you too close to shore(and maybe me pushing for one last flip before the turn).....and I got it the first time because a cheesehead SN owner crashed into me on the jump? I'll take that one...Should have known better!

Actually, Mike, you’re a one time winner and probably a multiple time nominee. I should have won it back to back 2004 and 2005. However, when “someone” I wont mention any names lol (Kevin) wakeboarded into shore, that beat out me breaking the fin off my HO Phantom.

We have 2 repeat Winners – Bill (2) and Chuck (3). And we all know there are at least two other times Chuck should have won it and there was a conspiracy to cover it up – both involving his trailer.

This year we had a lot of nominees. One guy dinged a prop, one was injured most of the season for a jump injury, another injured himself repeatedly all season, another with a sprained ankle.

But top honors this year could not have been topped, I almost think it’s the best BSA award in my 10 years at MSC. Glenn, one of our founding fathers won it with another member for capsizing and sinking the portable ski jump at a public lake after a ski show.

I put a video slideshow that I played at the xmas party Saturday night, but I prefaced playing it with “If you made the video, please don’t be offended, this was all in fun...” LMAO

Notice that Tex is in it (see jumping off the bridge pics), my broken ski fin is in it, and the show ends with the ski jump recovery...

It’s about that time of the year to decide who wins the Broken Ski Award for 2013-2014!

We have 3 candidates so far:

1. Go-Pro camera was dropped in the lake. That is the only detail I have on it.

2. We have a very injury prone skier, and one of the clubs founding fathers (and a life member) who’s goal was to be the top Mens 5 3-event skier in the AWSA South Central Region. On his 1st pass of his 1st tournament and not even full speed, he tore his posterior tibial tendon going around 5 ball and could not continue the rest of his events. Yes, he was naive enough to send me a pic of the injury... He also injured himself numerous times after that...

3. This one seems to be the sure-fire winner... We have an amazing long time old member 3-event skier who placed in the top 5 in all three events for Men’s 4; and #1 in the South Central region for tricks. He was out on the lake a few weeks ago and while doing a toe hold, caught an edge and broke the ski. he is unaware, but I do have a pic of him holding his broken ski, and the expression on his face was well, let’s say less than happy about breaking a brand new trick ski.

I will post the pics after December 14, 2013.

The obvious vote goes to #3, but it sure would be nice to give it to #2, and cement his place in the clubs history other than founding father, but also BSA recipient.

Who should get the award?

I actually almost one it at our last show. I was towing the portable jump back to the ramp in the rainstorm and it was loaded down with equipment. It was a bit of a ride so I grabbed a beer out of one of the many ice chests in my boat. George was sitting on the jump and I offered him up one. I threw a beer to him(about 20 yards) and he rushed to the front corner to catch it and due to the load almost flipped the jump! We were laughing that if it would have flipped we would have had to keep the beer out of the story until we picked up the award!
