I have a MC '96 single axle trailer. I am trying to find something on the drum brakes. Manual, etc. Are these drum brakes considered self adjusting or should I be adjusting them?

If adjustment is required... any advice on the procedure would be helpful.

I am sure you have the same set up as me.

not self adjusting. there's an adjustment port on the drum...click till tight then back off 10-12 clicks. To loose and you can get wheel lock up... plus there's a shock absorber in the actuator that should be changed. That and old brakes will cause chatter on light breaking or what some have called "machine-gunning" sound.

Getting the drum turned wouldn't be a bad idea if it never had it done.

I would inspect assembly. Parts are available at www.pacifictrailers.com and

Both have been good to work with for me.

What he said. Given the age of your trailer an overall inspection is in good order if you have not done so. In fact this should be an off season to do each year. E.g. have you inspected your wheel cylinders, inspected/changed/flushed your brake fluid, inspected/repacked your wheel bearings, etc?

I don't mean to be obnoxious but if you are asking about adjusting the brake drums, it makes one wonder if other regular trailer maintenance items are being performed on a regular basis.
