I would love to be there to see this

It's going to take 2 days to travel 12 miles

Moving the 170,000-pound Endeavour requires a specialized 160-wheel carrier typically used to haul oil rigs, bridges and heavy equipment. The wheels can spin in any direction, allowing the shuttle to zigzag past obstacles. An operator walks alongside, controlling the movements via joystick. Several spotters along the wings are on the lookout for hazards.

To make room for the five-story-tall shuttle and its 78-foot wingspan, some 400 trees were chopped down, cable and telephone lines were raised, and steel plates were laid down to protect the streets and underground utilities.

True- They plan to replant the amount chopped down and then some. I'm really looking forward to seeing this event. It will be once in a lifetime event and beyond surreal to see a freaking space shuttle mosey down LA streets.

As if traffic out there wasn't already bad enough. I can imagine what the shuttle is doing to it.

I saw a report that the place they are taking it is re-planting 2 trees for every one that had to be removed. Hopefully that is the case, and state and local gov't is kept out of it.

You seem to be under the impression that they have stopped spending money after their checking account ran dry....

Or is there another California that I do not know about???

Maybe they are just nabbing them from one of the "have" states to be planted in the "have not"....operation "Robbin in the Hood". There's still some "have" states aren't there?

They were the size of a blade of grass when they were pulled out.

12 mile journey.... 12 million dollars. In the budget is money for replanting trees. The native South/Southwest LA folks were in an uproar about ensuring the trees were put back. Just like they were in an uproar when the center median and trees were put in because they were no longer able to easily jaywalk with their children. If this fact was only a joke...
