Among other upgrades, I upgraded the rudder on my 03 X2 this summer to the bigger 2006-era unit from OJ. Mine was in perfect condition so if for some reason someone dinged theirs up and didn't want to spend full price on the new model, I would sell mine cheap. Just send a PM if interested or if you want pictures.

I did that upgrade on my 03 X2. When I bought the boat it had a very heavy feel to it and didn't turn well. The new rudder made a very noticeable improvement in tracking and turning as well as lightening up the feel of the boat. Not cheap but probably one of the best improvements I did to the boat while I owned it.

Btburner hit the nail on the head. It was a night and day transformation. I think the 160 is probably a good fit for smaller DD's, but was completely anemic on a loaded X2 V-Drive. Would not recommend to anyone with a v-drive unless you just didn't have the cash to put into the upgraded model. I'm sure it is fine on ski boats but I haven't the experience to back that up.

Do you recall if you can still get the prop off or do you have to drop the rudder to do that?

Don't have to recall - dinged prop on the trailer two weekends ago LOL.

And yes, you can still get the prop off without dropping the rudder on the 162.

I will mention for thrills, however, that though I have a Mastercraft trailer that claims it is for 205V hull, I DID have to jack the boat up off of the bunks in order to perform the rudder swap. There wasn't enough room to remove the shaft from the port with the lower roller guard-bar.

Very scary :)
