GF gave me a GoPro HD Hero2 for my birthday, got to try it out for the first time yesterday-

Anyone ever experimented with a rope mount, say - 20 feet back from the boat? If it was stable enough, I think you would get some pretty cool video.

mine sank Saturday. somehow we found it about 15 foot down but its not acting right.

A friend of mine built a mount that uses 8ft of pvc attached to the handle with the rope threaded through it. The gopro is mounted to the end of the pvc. That is the only way he could keep the gopro upright. Attaching it straight to the rope caused the rope to twist. The pvc makes it kinda heavy, but the footage is pretty good.

I like the idea of mounting it on the PVC. Gives a nice view point.

I was thinking of something along the lines of that PVC, but I don't see the need to keep the gopro upright- you can flip the video in the camera itself or at the editing stage on the computer.

I think this would let you make a smaller mount that you could put at different locations along the rope, just needs to be long enough to stabilize the camera a little.

Here's what other people have done, similar info to what JRW160. It shows more info on how to build it and has some videos also.

San Francisco--GoPro pulled the wraps off of a new generation of its line Hero sports camera packages built around the smallest, most powerful camera that it has ever offered: the GoPro Hero 3.

The GoPro Hero 3 Black Edition is the flagship model that will retail for $399.99.
This new model features a chassis that is 30% smaller and 25% lighter than the outgoing Hero 2 (http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-camcorders/gopro-hd-hero2-motorsports/4505-6500_7-35055052.html) model and is only 20mm thick when removed from its plastic shell.

The plastic shell itself is also smaller (obviously) and features a new flat lens.
