$3500 is par for the course, you could save some cash by having a shop make the covers and installing the covers yourself... Do a search here there is several threads about different companies. http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/search.php?searchid=4840267

thanks for the link, and yeah i thought 3500 was outrageous!!!!
i saw a couple options.
viper customs
jim
leading edge
i mean for my whole interior i dont mind paying fair price but im not willing to get raped on pricing by some a-hole.
that 3500 price was with me removing ALL interior and TAKING it to him for him to do.

$3500 sounds a bit high to me also. You have an '86 tri-star?

I had a complete interior done a 4 years back (seats and carpet and some replacement foam) for $2700. I beat the guy up pretty good to get that deal and we were dead in the middle of the recession, so i was in the driver seat on that deal. $3500 for a whole boat sounds about right, but not if you are doing a lot of the labor...

Is it an open bow Tristar? If so, that's a decent price if you're in CA compared to some interior shopping I did for a boat in CA in '07. Viper should beat that and do great work (did my '93 for less than $3k). Freight factor may kill any $ advantage.

For comparison, I had quotes in Cincinnati that ranged from $3600-6100. Most were above $4k - crazy.

Viper Customs did a 93 190 for me just this past week. Skins, carpet, carbon fiber engine cover drinkholder with SS inserts two new vents for the engine cover (covered up the other vent opening), and a gelcoat touchup in a small spot. $2500.

Write-up on the DS about the work and all.

Thank you. I saw you skipping out early the other day too. :D :D

It turned out nice. I am pleased with Carl's work. They all did good work on the boat at various stages. The small chip (repair) in the gel was my win. It was driving me crazy.... .

Not much difference in my interior. I had it put back to original configuration. The old was not bad, just wanted to have fresh skins. I'll post a few pics when I get time tomorrow to get a few. I have been busy all week with chores.

hey thanks for the replys. yes it is the open bow tri star.
i got a quote from jim for 1600.
i tried calling viper but it said the number was not in service or something like that.
i may end up just doing as much as i can if not all of it myself.
i think the 2 hardest things will be captains seat and engine cover.

3500 is WAY out of my price range.

I just purchased the same boat 1986 Tristar! Please let me know what you decided to do for your seats. I have a few seats that need to be recovered but most will need replacement soon. I was thinking of using a modern material / pattern, but that would require everything. I'll also be looking for tips to pull the panels, etc..

post up pics.
and how much did you pay for the boat?
im leaning towards doing most of it myself. the 2 items i may have done by a shop will be the captains chair and motor box cover

I posted photos in my Album, not sure how to add them here?
I paid over $6k for the boat, I know there was a similar one in CT for less but I didn't have the time to go look at it. This one is clean, low hours, 454 is heavy (no fat sack needed) so I am happy I got it, now get to work on it!

dude thats CLEAN. i like it.
and i like that 454 in there. what do you plan on doing to it besides the interior?

mine has the 351 in it with 350hrs.
i paid 2800 for mine. and like you in going to work on it this winter to get her ready for next season.
my plan for interior is either a light gray or white for a mail color with a dark blue welting. something clean n simple.

Thank you! I've got Viper quoting some upholstery options. Either repair three seats or the whole boat. If doing the boat there are a lot of options, I'd like to use a more modern style. I'm leaning towards repairing the three seats this winter, putting off the rest a few years.

Other things: need a lift w canopy, cover, tower, bimini, new radio is needed, updated lighting for sunset cruises, dual battery, update dashboard.

Did you post pics of you boat?

JohnMC

Here is the other boat in CT, I think this is a good deal, just not close enough to me. He has a gray original interior. 250 hours on this boat,

ill throw a few pics in my album.
yeah i want to update my dash as well, but i kinda like the look of the vintage gauges so im not sure if ill change those. if i do however ill go with white faced ones.

what would the benefit of the dual battery give you?
i was on the fence about a tower but after seeing the pic of that boat with the tower, i think it changed my mind and i want one now. btw thats EXACTLY how i want my interior just with blue piping. thanks for sharing that pic!!!

That us a nice boat, with new seats you'll be all set! I assume your engine ran well?

Dual battery is nice if someone leaves the radio on and battery gets to low to start engine. Or small leak keeps bilge pump running until I can get boat out of the lake! Really need a boat lift, found some water had leaked into the boat in last 4 days, adding that to the fix-it list.

I'm going to keep my seats at home when she goes for shrink wrap, hope to get a quote to see about re-covering them this winter. I'm not going to do the whole boat this year. Pontoon carpet project is taking up the garage space.

thanks, yeah the interior is the bad part. boat runs great and hauls *** on the water.
so i am def pleased.
my project is recovering the seats like the boat in that link you posted, i love the smooth simple look. i wouldnt mind finding someone to repaint the blue strip on the side of the boat too.
other than that she is solid.

just fyi i got a quote from jim for 1600 for the whole set!!
