Does this sound about right, you guys? I'm not too familiar with our steering and I don't have my boat in front of me now... as I'm sure you all don't either but I figured someone might be able to answer this off the top of their head...

I have a question about replacing my steering helm. I have a '88 Mastercraft Prostar and I removed my steering wheel to replace it with this one: http://www.iboats.com/UFLEX-Gorgona-Steering-Wheel-Red-Inserts/dm/view_id.392001
The steering wheel I removed had 3 small bolts on the outside of the big nut in the middle. When I tried to put on the new steering wheel the hub on the wheel was too long and the shaft was too short to come through the steering wheel to secure it to the nut. Can I get assistance on what type of setup I need to get this wheel on? I figured I could use this time to also get a tilt system also. Thanks in advance!

Here are the links to the parts needed to go to a tilt steering system and you will need all 3 of the parts to make it work. that is unless you have a Uflex rotary steering system in the boat now then you would not need the cable.

I replaced my steering two years ago with a rotary system from SKIDIM and a Grant wheel. Everything worked well together. Have you compared the hub from the original wheel to the hub for the new wheel? Can you use the hub from the old wheel on the new wheel?

hey man, thanks for the response. no, i dont think the parts of the wheels are interchangeable. i tried taking them apart to see if I could switch the hubs or bases or whatever you call them... but they seem like they are fit for that type of wheel. I can tell from your picture above that the Grant wheel you bought has the (3) holes around the main hole for bolts-- just like the stock one. My steering wheel doesn't have those holes, just the main one with a small notch which is how it probably turns the system.

I'll ask Skidim and see if they have any other insight. Thanks again for the response!

Sounds like you need a different hub. you might check with where you bought the wheel and hub. Posting a couple pics of what you have might be helpful.
