Ballast on 01 x-10

Hey all
so i bought new pumps for my ballast on my 01 x-10. i went to the boat and saw that i was wrong about what i was doing. there are red cylinder looking things under the motor which i assumed was the pumps. now i believe these to be the back flow and shut of valves, because i found 3 johnson pumps going through the hull on the back wall of the boat. i already purchased 3 tsunami 800 from wake makers. i was very excited about this, but upon seeing this it looks like i need to get new johnson inserts. how hard would it be to switch to the tsunamis, i ask because going through the hull scares me a bit. it seems there is a rubber gasket it passes through but other then that you just tighten the nut on the the pump thread? that .0004 cent plastic nut is the only thing keeping my boat from sinking?

I'd call Jason at wakemakers and tell him what you have and what you purchased. I'm going to say he will want you to return the pumps and get replacement impellers for your johnsons.

Well it's not the reversible ones it the cartridge style cheap ones.

Well yup that nut is what is gonna hold it in place. Along with 3m 5200 sealant.

What I would do is try and return the tsunamis. Get the 1200 motor cartridge for Johnson/ mayfair pump. You know I am not sure if the highest is 1200 or 1100at the moment in the Johnson/Mayfair cartridge motor, but it's an easy swap bs vs tearing everything out. The 800 Tsunamis are not going to pump faster as the limiting factor is going to be the 3/4 in hose. Also you are going to need some 90 elbows as te space between the muffler the transom and the travel of the rudder will be an issue with the bigger tsunamis.

thanks swat guy, i think i may have over ordered, i also ordered the bronze through hull, and was going to do the ball valve to the pump. i have heard that the johnson cartridges dont always fit the ones i have though. i have seen a couple threads that say that. any idea if thats true?

The pumps from my 2000 have the yellow housings. I haven't had any issues with swapping motors at all. Not sure where u read that. I will see if I can get you the part numbers off my old pumps. Think I have a spare in my garage. I gutted mine and added the tsunami 1200's. But I upgraded all the hoses and everything except the center KGB pumps.

Did you ever get this resolved? I too have the yellow housing pumps. They have not worked in a year and I am looking at getting it all back up in running. Boat is a 2001 ps205v. Thanks
