Edit: It seems that a lot of people are looking at the board pics from this thread so I'll add pics of the current two we are using

Our Boards and if anyone wants a Soulcraft let me know and I'll get you all hooked up!!!

I have a few custom Soulcrafts that will be done next week and I'm super stoked to get them. My personal board is a Fang Tail and I have a few Jetty's coming as well. Handcrafted in the USA and Jeff is awesome to work with. I've been on four different ones that the Vilands have and they are awesome boards. Here's a few production pics of my board and a few other pics as well (the last three are not my pics but there's a SC board in them and I'm sure you'll like them) :) My board will have a pretty sick lay out and the art work on the bottom should be pretty cool. And as usual I can hook people up if anyone wants a custom Soulcraft ;)

8.12.12: Board arrived today. Couldn't be happier. It's awesome!

My new Fangtail! Art work is done. It's getting cleared and finished today and then out to me. I can't wait to get it. My son was born this year and it's the year of the Black Dragon on the Chinese Zodiac. Did a little tribute board for him :) Original art work by Caroline Young. Done on the board by Chelsi Benger. I think it's one of the coolest surf boards I've ever seen. But I may be biased :)

Scott both companies make awesome boards and there are a lot of similarities. I think they are very comparable in most aspects. I really like both which is why I have one of each for myself :) More often than not I will probably be on my new Fangtail...

After spending a few weeks with my Soulcraft I can very easily say it's my favorite board I've been on. I've got some new fins to test out as well. Jeff is also one of the nicest guys you will ever meet and he's a true craftsman when he's making custom surf boards. He's also got a new Pro Model coming out soon so you will see one of those soon. Just need to pick out the colors I want on it :)

Pretty good footage of the event here.....

http://www.wakesurfchampionships.com/

Doesn't look good for riding the Fang Tail I have on order this year. Pretty sure yesterday was our last time out for the season unless we get some crazy good weather. Water was already in the 50s and weather forecasts are predicting lows in the 30s for this week. That will be good for taking another 5 - 7 degrees of water temp. Getting a crew together with those numbers gets really challenging.

Haven't seen my board in person yet but it's supposed to be here on Black Friday. Won't be able to ride it until April or May but have a spot cleared out in my office for inspiration to get me through the winter.

For those considering a custom board Ryan has been excellent to work with and has demonstrated great communication skills and patience with a customer (yours truly) that has had a thousand questions. I would highly recommend having Ryan walk you through the process if you are considering ordering a custom board. There are a lot of options when it comes to shaping and ride style and having someone that knows the ropes certainly helped me.

I would also advise ordering early as they are custom and as such will take some lead time to be made. By the looks of the pictures it would certainly seem it was well worth the wait. Now I just need to order up some swag to go with the board. The wife is already looking for ideas on what to get me this year. Do you know if Soulcraft is offering any gear to go along with their boards? Didn't see anything on their website.

Thanks again for all your help. Now all I need is some warm weather and good wake.

TheWoons
12-13-2012, 11:26 AM
There are things I like about both boards. Personally we have Soulcrafts, Walkers AND Inlands that we ride. I like to have a variety. My main board that I will spend the most time on though is probably going to be my new 2013 Soulcraft Fang Tail that I just got yesterday. It's the white/red one in the pics I just posted. I haven't ridden it yet but will this weekend. I'll never have just one board.

alright I really like the smaller inland surfer skim style boards and was looking to pick one up this winter. How does these other boards compare. I really like surface style tricks and my x2 doesnt throw a massive wake so I dont want a big surf board for that reason as well. Also Im about 185 and I was wondering how small I could comfortably go?

TheWoons
12-20-2012, 12:22 PM
I've been playing with Sticky Bumps Wax for the front traction instead of a pad and I have to say I like it a lot better! More grip for sure!

http://i259.photobucket.com/albums/hh295/RWoon/Lake/photo-1-2.jpg

Skim and surf boards don't really compare too much but if you want to do surface tricks like 360's, 720's, etc you can definitely do that on a surf board as well. If you want more info on a Soulcraft with pricing and specs for your size and boat PM me.

Be careful with that wax when it gets warmer out. It will end up all over your boat... Big mess. I used to get it all over my car when I'd bring surfboards back home to the desert until I got smart and started scraping it off before coming home. It starts getting soft at maybe 85-90F and turns to nearly liquid by 100F. Direct sunlight will start loosening board wax enough to rub off on your vinyl maybe even in the 70-80F range. I'm digging deep in the memory banks on this one so don't hold me to the temps.

TheWoons
12-21-2012, 11:34 AM
We'll definitely be careful when it gets warmer out. They make a lot of different waxes for various temps too.

Those boards look sweet. I've been an avid surfer for over 20 years. I recently started wake surfing and I'll be teaching my daughters to wakesurf this year. Is there an advantage to the fang tail? I always surfed (ocean) with a squash tail, or a square tail. I've also surfed on some swallow tails. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Your designs and graphics are off the charts. By the way, Mr. Zog's s#x wax for boards held up great in the florida heat, i don't know if it would work out for you guys.

TheWoons
04-20-2013, 08:59 PM
TN Barefooter we use sticky bumps wax and love it! PM me your number and I'll call you and give you some details on the Fang Tail versus the Swallow and Squash.

Quickly explanation:

Swallow is fast but mainly for down the line speed and airs, it tends to lock in or suck down when trying to release for tricks.

Squash has the good release for tricks but can be slower than the others.

Fang tail is the best of all worlds, has the speed, release and control in and out of the wake.

Been a bit busy. We have a 24 month old and an 8 month old now and it's taken up all our time. Haven't been out on the water in a year BUT we will be back on the water very soon. Should have a new boat in the next month or so! Trying to decide what boat now...

I forgot about your wife being pregnant. Congrats on the baby now it's time to hit the lake.

What boat are you thinking?

TheWoons
03-30-2014, 07:55 PM
When we had our first he started going to the lake at 3 weeks old. Having two…. that's a different story :) Especially when we usually only went with 3 or 4 of us. We would need more hands to help at this point when we go.

Nick I am considering a 46 but I haven't been behind one yet. Everyone has told me it doesn't surf nearly as well as the 30. I haven't followed the wake surfing boat progression much over the last year so I'm trying to catch up now and decide asap.

KnoxX2
03-30-2014, 07:59 PM
I still think the 30 is the best boat that MC has out for surfing! The X 10 dose a good job but it's a little small for a larger crew

From what I've read it seems that the X30 is the top surf boat in MC's line but I don't think we've seen anyone really dial in a 46 yet with 3K-plus for surfing like you had on your X25.

Agree. I've spent a lot of time in the 25 and 30. I'm just not sure I want to spend $120-145k to "test" out a 46 :)

I have a basically brand new Soulcraft Honu I'm selling. It's only been ridden twice. It's perfect and the only reason I'm selling it is because I have a custom one coming with art work to replace this all white one (far right board in the pics). It's the latest greatest Soulcraft board and Jeff's favorite (owner of SC). It's $800 plus shipping normally. I will take $600 for this one. I'd prefer a local sale so I don't have to ship it but I can ship it if need be. Shipping is $60-85 depending on where it's going. Email me at ddwpartners1@gmail.com with any questions or if you want it. The description below is right off the Soulcraft website. It's a 4.8 and will support up to 220lbs. Someone 150-180lbs can easily ride it as well.

"Da Honu is a fast board with sharp down rail to a box hard rail at the tail that allows the rail to grab the wake for speed but can generate speed by pumping off the tail too, It has a rounded wide tail for easy release on 360's and surface tricks, It also adds stability to the board to recover from the back of the wake. Adjusted nose rocker with nose flip for speed and prevention of pearling on re-entry of tricks. Deep single concave with a twin fin set set up standard but can be set up as a twinzer, Quad or 6 fin set up. Grab rails for strength and airs, Concave deck helps the board stick to your feet for controlled air tricks. Da Honu is one of the most technically advanced boards I've made with many years of R&D incorporated into it. It has quickly become one of my favorites and a must have to your surfboard quiver."

Right now we are riding a Walker Project Bomb Pop, Shred Stixx Ringer and a Inland surfer sweet spot pro. I am looking to get greater edge control and speed to attempt some airs off the wave. In your experience do I have the right mix of boards or would you recommend a specific SC board. I am roughtly 6' @ 190 lbs.

Hey Scott how are you? I only rode it once and it was fast. Couldn't really get a feel for it as I was wearing a dry suit (with sweats underneath) and scuba diving booties. What a pansy eh!!!

Given the lake temp I was bulked up like a manatee and was just happy to ride again. I need less bulk and my feet directly on the board to really understand the Bomb Pop. Thanks again for selling it to me:D

However, I was not thrilled with the inland surfer and thought I might replace it with something before I leave to kelowna for the month of July so I am all stocked up and ready to go. I will not be parting with the Bomb Pop but possibly with another board.

I rode it against the Bomb Pop and felt like the IS did not have the control or speed of the WP Bomb Pop. The IS was quite slippery and reasonbly quick but I did like the Bomb Pop better based on my quick ride with Scuba booties on.

Ya it's the first traction to use micro dots which you can't really see in the pic. they make a big big difference. We love our SC boards:

What SC board is a very fast surf style board for riders that are bigger? Im 230lbs so need something fast that still keeps me afloat. I ride a 4'9" CWB tsunami and can go ropeless, but it feels slow somethings and I lose my push because its pretty small.

Looking at getting a new board next month. Looking really hard at the phase 5 trident right now. Like the customization of the SC boards though, although I'd be curious what one costs. the $730 P5 demands for the trident is expensive, not sure that I'm willing to spend much more than that.

I ordered mine March 23rd and am still waiting for it to be delivered. I do know last week it was still waiting to be painted. He told me the painter was slow. Seems like if you want a custom paint on your board it will take some time. If not Jeff said those have a quick turn around.

TheWoons
05-28-2014, 07:07 PM
Jeff has always had issues with painters. Unfortunately he has to rely on painters for the custom designs and art work since he doesn't do that in house. He did tell me this week that he has a handle on that now so hopefully the customs get knocked out faster. I would say March-June is the worst time to order a board. I always encourage people to order boards in the off season so they have maximum use during the summer.

You're welcome ;) Did you order your board direct with Jeff? I just asked him for a pic and got this. It's getting laminated tomorrow.

When I get some time I can try and write a little about the boards. Most of my boards I do little things to that make them ride a bit different than standard. I have a custom Honu coming but I did a blunt nose so it's faster and easier to ride revert. It's usually a twin fin setup but I did a twinzer setup and also added nubster boxes so it can have 2, 4 or 6 fins.

The new Soulcraft traction is the best I've used. For ultimate traction you can't beat wax and I use sticky bumps for that. Wax gets messy and it's hard to use here in the summer so I've been using traction instead of wax so far but I do miss the feel of wax.
