View Full Version : Wasp Help

Ok so I have this wasp problem at my house. Wasps or yellow jackets

So here is what I have done.

Last friday I took a broom and knocked down the nest and put it in my driveway and put some high octane fuel on it. Then took a lighter and a can of throttle body spray and shot a flame ball on the nest and let it burn completely out.

Wasps then landed against the brick wall where the nest used to be. Walked over and killed off like 20 of them with a broom with a few swings.

Saturday I notice more wasps in the same spot. Grabbed the throttle body spray and killed them all off with a lighter and a big flame ball shooting at them.

Sunday I notice about 40 more wasps so I repeat the flame throwing.

Monday I come home for work and the sorry SOB's had recruited more and there were 20-30 more. I shot more fire at them and killed them off again.

Tuesday there were no wasps.

Wednesday there were 15 or so that showed up so I got the flame back after them.

Thursday there were no wasps.

Today the Bastards are back.... What do I do now?

I keep leaving all of the dead ones swept up into a nice pile so that maybe the future wasps will get the hint that I am not playing games. I have a stack of dead wasps (about 75-100) in this pile and I cant seem to keep them from coming back.

What do I do?

Why do more keep coming to the exact same spot?

How to I win the war for good?

I have all but caught the house on fire.

First thing is get rid of the dead ones. They keep coming back to collect their family.

Oh I have about 10 videos that are narrated from step 1 of taking the broom after the nest.

Everyday has been well documented on video

I knew that the way I was going about the killing would be beyond funny.

I'm one of the only people that have seen the killing videos, and I will say that there is some genius in them. I mean the drink spewing type... its not so much the burning vids, but more the narration and the nailing their little yellowjacket arses with a broom.

I will find time this weekend and upload these vids to my youtube, you guys are going to pee in your pants laughing.

While i'm at it, i might as well upload the video where kyle and i were on a deer hunt and we challenged him to walk thru the campfire :D

When you kill a bee or wasp, it gives off an 'alarm' pheromone that attracts others to come to its aid. You should get rid of the dead ones, and wash down the area to remove any latent pheromone that might attract others. I've had good luck with RESCUE! WHY Trap - wasp traps from home depot, maybe hang one of those up there also.

Excelent Idea. I can let them cultivate in that trap and then video tape the mass burning of the wasps.

Had the same problem...first time got exterminator cost me $250... worked... a few years later got them again...was laid off so I needed to go cheap... so I on a cool night I was able to find ground entrance to hive...put on long pants, sweatshirt...gloves scarf and my son's paintball mask and sprayed this stuff

http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1v/R-100352314/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=wasp+spray&storeId=10051#.UC6FrN1lSSo

A few days later I noticed no yellow jacket activity so I then ran the hose into the entrance and let the water run for a day on a light stream....hole filled up and I let it run for 24 hours to really get the are wet... then I disturbed the wet soil and tamped it down...have not seen a wasp hive yellow jacket in 5 years...

Will probably discover one now since I bragged of victory over an insect.... :)

I witnessed a few of these pests 1st hand this week, and he has red paper wasps. they have formed a huge unseen colony and he has killed at least 100 wasps - the videos show him killing at least 20-30 three different times... They keep coming back... it's like they love that spot.

kyle is a crazy mofo tho - he walked right up so a single straggler and lit him up with a cigarette lighter... then the damned thing came into the house, riding on his shoulder.

Jeff: "What an idiot...!"

"Well, I got my cold bee in my hand, a cigarette, its midnight on wednesday, so early thursday, I just got home from a date... and the wasp bastards are back..."

<puts beer down, grabs lighter and aerosol can..."

POOOOFFFFFFF - flame ball flies all over the eve and the light fixture... Kyle literally blows out the fire...

"Bye bye sons of b*tches!!"

7:30am is far too early on a Sunday to be killing Wasps

I can explain why I was up so early.

I woke up at 5:30 am and had this fear of my oil in my boat being over due on a change. I race to my owners guide and sure enough it was 8 hours too far. I immediately got dressed and drove to Walmart and did the oil change. After the oil change I killed some wasps, took a shower and headed to the lake. The lake we went to was 2 hours away so I was planning on 8a get up but my OCD kicked in.

Ya'll remind me of an incident about 40 some odd years ago. When we were kids, we'd go LOOKING for wasp nest just to knock em down and pi$$ off the wasps. well, one day we were doing it and a friend started laughing at the whole situation, and one stung him right on the tongue! talk about funny! His tongue swelled up the size of a tennis ball!:uglyhamme:uglyhamme
On another note, my mom got stung about 10 times from a yellow jacket nest in the ground. If she hadn't gotten medical attention when she did, she would have died! Some people are seriously allergic to those types of stings.:eek:

Wasp killer is needed. I keep Killing off the entire flock of them every day with brake cleaner and a lighter and I'm sick of cleaning soot off the porch. The brake cleaner leaves this black powdery crap everywhere and I have to clean it off with a scrub brush.

Wasp killer better work or I'm going to be ANGRY

It's like the new ones fly for days to come roost where their fallen friends used to live.

So far I've bashed and burned the wasps.

Stacked the dead ones in a pile (bad idea I see)

Took the yard broom and blew the dead ones in neighbors yard. He is weird and creepy. Also his dogs crap everywhere and if the wind is just right I can smell their dump over on my side of the fence. Lastly those dogs try to attack the weedeater when I go down the fence, so ocasionally I let the string go all of the way under the fence and the loud barking and biting stops when the line smacks their face and paws a few times while I'm running the weedeater at wot. Fence is a iron fence so small dogs and cats can go right through it.

Will update after I get some spray

Ok I am really PI$$ED OFF.

I bought the wasp spray as mentioned. The lable was a little different but the brand was the spectracide brand made to kill wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets.

I go outside yesterday and find this little nest that was assembled over night that was the size of a quarter. At this point in time I am fed up. So I jump in the truck and head to Home Depot and bought the spray and then headed back home. I call txriverrat and told him that I was done with the bastards and was going to shoot them with wasp spray. He starts laughing and says why not just shoot them with more fire....

So I empty half of the big can of wasp spray all over this little wasp nest making sure that I use my OCD and spray every spot. I finally feel like I may have won so I go inside totally forgetting about the wasps because I knew for sure that I had claimed victory over their nest with that spray. It was fully soaked and the few that were on the nest died when the spray hit them.

I get up this morning and the little bastards are back yet again.

:mad::mad::mad:

So do I return the empty can of spray and say it did NOT work or buy another can and keep trying?

Get a small garden sprayer and spray the area down with ammonia. If there are wasps present it will kill them and most importantly it will keep them from returning. Respray the area in a couple of days if you see any return.

If you have a location where wasps frequently build nests, spray the area with ammonia early in the season and they will find somewhere else to build. Stuff is pretty pungent when you first spray it but the smell quickly goes away. The residue on the surface is what drives them away.

We have had a epidemic of ground wasp nests this summer, hot and dry, and after trying everything else, this is the method that gave the best results.

:Kyle, FWIW I feel your pain, but may have a solution for you. Wasps are territorial and one of my best friends was having a problem getting rid of a nest that kept coming back on his daughters playset. He tried kerosene, commercial wasp sprays etc. to no avail. He researched a little bit and found the territorial issue. What he did was build a papre mache wasp nest, then hosed down the playset with wasp killer and made sure he got all of them, then he hung up the paper mache nest and hasn't had aproblem since. I never thought it would work unless I saw it for myself. Wahtever you do, keep recording it. Sorry your pain is our entertainment. What a sick country we are.:D

Thats basically what my friend made. For $9 its worth a shot, or if you're feeling creative and those 5th grade art skills are itching to be used, you can make your own.

oxberger suggestion makes sense to me. when I was a kid growing up, my dad would find these huge red wasp and/or yellow jacket nests under the eave of his shop and spray with straight gasoline to kill them but he never knocked the nest down ... I finally asked why he didn't knock the nest down and he said that he killed all the wasps that lived there and others would not make a nest within a pretty good distance from an existing nest ...

So the area that I'm dealing with is really irritating the crap out of me.

Today's agenda..... Pressure wash the area and remove the soot on the celing of the porch and wash away the dead.

After it is dry and safe to re enter the porch area I plan on using some traps and whatever the HD sells to catch these bastards. I just don't have time to build a pretend wasp nest.

Although my last few battles have been with say 10 wasps it has been a lot better than 30wasps to 1kyle like it was in the beginning when I had 20-30 new ones every day. I will continue to fight today.

Does anyone know how far these SOB's fly to collect their dead. I feel like they fly for days.

LMFAO - pretend wasp nest... If i had to guess, i would bet you've already killed like 500 wasps.

Ok here is my update.

So I kept fighting the fight week after week and I think I have finally won. Yeah me

Last week there were like 4 of the bastards trying to rebuild a house so I used half of the wasp spray on the 4. 1 of them seemed to survive and I kind of gave up trying to chase him down with fire and broom whacking. So far it has been 6 days and no wasps have been back. I guess maybe he died later or finally got the hint that he would die if he kept fooling around my house.

Now my smoking area is clear of the wasps and I am happy.

500 wasps or more were killed and Kyle was never stung but I was chased a few times. That being said there is no need to build a home made bee suit. Just wear a pair of shorts or a swim suit along with some flip flops and get in there and kick some wasp A$$.

If the sorry bastards come back and I have posted this post prematurely I will let everyone know.

:)

Damnit I just watched one fly up to the area where the nest was and it turned away and flew off. I didn't chase him off he just flew in and flew out. Maybe my fight is not over. I freaking sick of the sorry, no good, worthless bastards around my house. I wish they would go away for good.

Kyle, congrats on going 6 days wasp free!!! Your horrific tales of wasp mutilations and mass killigs has been such greta entertainment. I suggest you start a new thread. The "I got my beer, I got my cigarette." thread. That would add alot of entertainment to the board. Again, congrats on the mass extermination!:toast:

21' 9" Wasp Nest:eek3:

http://now.msn.com/21-foot-wasp-nest-found-in-spain

Wasps are the devil. They don't make honey, they just ruin people's days with their awful stingers and bad attitude. Which is why we're terrified of this photo. That is a 21-foot, 9-inch wasp nest found in an abandoned house in San Sebastian de la Gomera, Spain. It's so big that neighbors called the cops to investigate, alerted by either the horrible buzzing noise or the sheer malevolent vibrations emanating from it. (Fun "fact": The buzzing of wasps, when translated to human, is nothing but racial slurs, profanity and threats.) These wasps are believed to be part of an invasive species that migrated from Africa, which means they're spreading. Boy are we unsettled by this.

Those bastards are always a problem in the house...For this treatment which I have used in a couple of places it has worked well.

Do this at night when they are less active. First I find the crack in the eve or whatever where they are going in. Empty a can of Gamma-Cyhalothrin into it, then seal the crack with an expanding foam like The Good Stuff.

If they are making next exterior to a wall or on a ceiling the approach is different. I treat the nest with insecticide a couple of times over a few days. making sure that all participants in its instruction receive a good dose of medicine. Then knock down the nest and treat the surrounding area so that if a couple stragglers or survivors come back they have a dose waiting for them. When I do the several treatments over several days part I always use more than 1 type of insecticide thereby decreasing my chances of a resistant variant in the group.

Also, an old trick in the south is to paint the ceiling of the area sky blue. Wasps think its sky and do not try to build nests in the area....Never tried it but I have seen it work...Outsmart those bastards...its the only way...
