I'm being offered to buy this (see attached) 1991 Prostar 190, but I've never seen this color scheme / decals.
Another strange thing is the engine/valve covers which seem to have an Edelbrock sticker ..?!
And the cockpit seems to be the original shape but I cannot find these gauges anywher else .. ?!

Can anyone confirm whether the 1991-1994 PS 190 has ever been manufactured like that ?

Thanks in advance.

Looks to be in decent shape.....definitely some custom graphics and "optionizing" under the motor box. :)

The gel scheme, engine goodies and dash are most definitely not stock.

Yes 91 190 with some extras. Side window has PerfectPass sticker but no gauge?
KD7000 was a slalom ski

21 years is definitely enough time for someone to completely change the dash configuration, so I guess it's not surprising that the gauges have been changed. Definitely not stock, though.

Can you get the hull ID number? If you can, you could contact MC and get more specific info about the original setup. The Edelbrock valve covers were added and I don't think the aluminum plate was OEM, either. I like the graphic, too.

thx

KD 7000 was definitely a water ski, wonder whether it was a promotional boat or something. Would be a little concerned about how the graphics were done and whether it was professional or just an automotive paint job. I don't mind it though, just not original from what I have learnt on here. Cheers

There is nothing necessarily wrong with the modifications to the boat.....just understand it is not an "original" factory boat.

I think the graphics actually look very good.

Might have been a Euro promo boat for KIDDER skis ?

If you go to the MC site, they should have a 'Contact Us' button.

Not sure I understand this remark. Are there no professional auto painters? They paint fiberglass/gellcoat all the time...Corvette comes to mind.

Many boats are painted......

If it was done right, they would have used a two-part paint, like DuPont Imron, Centauri or something like that. Boats are painted with these all the time and it's the best barrier to the problems that plague gel coat, due to its porosity.

Based on that dash itís a 91. Mines a 93 and shaped different. The graphics are definitely custom... The valve covers are not stock, but neither are mine. MC wanted alot of $$$ for factory valve covers, so I went aftermarket when one of mine cracked. The wood shift knob does not appear to be stock either (Iíve never seen one like it).

thanks for all the great feeback. Sounds like it is clearly not stock, could be promo version due to the kd7000 and looks ok from the pictures.

What I'm a little worries about are the engine hours, if the gauges are not original how can I trust the 600h is claims to have doen.

thanks

Hard to tell in the pictures, but those gauges appear like the originals, just w/ a custom bezel instead of the factory black, thinner annodized units.

Out of curiousity, what does it say on the dash, obscured by the steering wheel in the picture? (EDIT: Nevermind, looked again and realized it probably says "Pro Star"...)

+1 on the stock gauges and custom bezel

Yes, it says prostar

The hour meter only gives you a rough idea of where the boat has been. If your concern is the state of your engine, a compression test would give you a better idea.

thanks. noted, I'll do a compression test on the spot.

the other weird thing about the dashboard is that on the left the ignition/key seems to be in the wrong location (to those 2 gauges) compared to other 1991-1994 model pictures I've found ?!

edit: .. what's the difference in fuel consumption I can expect between this model and a 97 EFI ?

thx

Hmmm... I actually LIKE the location of the key on that boat, and he probably changed it because like me, I find it annoying that it gets in the way of the stereo controls...

gas conumption: if you have to ask, you probably cant afford it LOL

switching from an old 76 Z-drive with about 7+ gallon per hour I don't think you can shock me ... but I'm curious as my alternative would a 97 for an additional $4500 ... ;D

I have not gauged it that way, but as a slalom skier in a course, and skiers skiing 32-34 MPH, i'm using 1.2 gallons per set (6 passes per set).

One set is about 12 minutes roughly, so i guess u can say I am using 6 GPM...?

is it possible to revive this paint (1997 PS 190) ? ...

how is that typically done ?

That can definately be brought back. There are a bunch of threads on here and various ways to do it. Generally with it that bad you may be looking at wetsanding with 800 grit, then 1000, then 2000. After that you can use Maguires sealer and wax. Maguires makes a 3 step kit that you may want to try first. Wish I could remember the names of their products right now, but I'm sure others will let you know what can be done.

Just leave it as-is and claim that it's the special edition MC Levi's Denim model.

I've seen worse hackjobs than this one, but this is definitely not original.
