View Full Version : Clean but no polish

The 3G Zero Flex tower on 2005 XStar was looking a little dull from water spotting, so I decided to clean it up this weekend. After cleaning tower with soapy water, I began applying Mother's Marine PowerMetal polish with a terry cloth on the top of tower. After a few minutes of applying polish, I wiped off and noticed the polish didn't turn black or really seem to affect the tower (good or bad).

Searched TT last night and found two threads on the tower polish subject and both said MC towers are anodized aluminum and should not be polished.

What cleaners are "safe" for MC towers?

Anodizing is a lot harder than aluminium. I suppose it is possible to polish, but didn't think it was recommended.

Babes Spot Remover works well...

You are not going to be able to polish the tower. The best thing to do it give it a soap and a coat of wax. Woody Wax's system (http://www.woody-wax.com/woody-wax-kit.php) can restore the finish. I have personally used it on some anodized railings and it works great. I've also discovered that you can polish the welds to get them to blend in more with the rest of the tower, as those are NOT anodized.

I'm going to give Woody's a shot. Can't hurt my tower speaker clamps..... http://img834.imageshack.us/img834/6100/photo51g.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/834/photo51g.jpg/)

I know this post is a bit stale but found this on Ebay here in OZ. Obviously it is made for anodized aluminium. Cheers

Use "Baby Oil", it was recommended to me by the guys at Gere Marine who make the towers for MC.

Do you have pictures of a Baby Oiled tower? That just sounds wrong....but I'll try it.
