Anyone foresee Malibu licensing out this technology to other manufacturers or at a minimum MC employing similar technology?

MC will steal the technology just like the stole the wedge.

wait...

I don't foresee anything like that happening

Im courious if there will be problems down the road with the surfgate system. I have seen lots of posts of people still having issues with the Wedge.

is the surf gate basically a large tab rotated 90 degrees? I can see some one here making one.

Theres already video of some guy making a surfgate type thing out of plywood on the back of his centurion. Not pretty but it seemed to work pretty decent actually. I'm sure its just a matter of time till someone mounts some hydraulic trim tabs at a 90 degree angle to see how it works.

I'm working on it on my 08' X2 for the next summer...Currently the boats sits in the water and I was wondering if there was enough place to put trim tabs sideways because of the swim platform and hull shape...Cannot check for the moment...

I am thinking no. If it is popular, bu will use it against MC to gain market share. What would you do?

I hope MC doesn't waste their time on it. From what I have seen it's not something that offers that big of a benefit to the size or shape of the wave.

I don't know if another boat builder like MC could copy their system at it's clearly protected by some patents...

MC could just rotate their already pattended (I assume) Surf tabs 90 degrees and still call them surf tabs ;)

If this tech becomes proven, I'd like to see if it helps boats like the xstar that have been difficult to get a good surf wave from. From the videos I've seen, surfgate looks pretty great. Excellent point about the safety of the swim platform with the tabs in motion...

My thoughts exactly!

Surfgate seems to work better on some hulls than others. I have an X-Star, just not ready to be a guinea pig... yet. Tabs and a gate could possibly work together, each deploys opposite the side you surf. I think there has been some success with tabs on the X-Star. I am very interested in seeing how the gate would work. I really like surfing and don't want to trade boats... ever! haha

My buddies that own a Axis A22 are going to check out Malibu's test drive and surf gate demo tomorrow. I'll have to capture some video and pictures. High of 60 tomorrow here in Minneapolis, but I might have to get in and try it.

Hey KelownaX45, My wife and I saw you at Wabamum back in August, you were just loading her up while we were in line waiting to drop the boat in. All I have to say is that is one beautiful X80 you have. Love the red flake.:)
