Whsts the best oil for a 351 PCM that has been sitting up for several years. What filter do you recommend also. Thanks. This forum is awesome !!!!

I think you'd be hard pressed to beat Rotella 15w-40 for a great combination of quality, availability, suitability for this application and price.

I also toss in a bottle of http://www.hyperlube.com/Zinc-Replacement-Additive-c7.html for the flat tappet engine. O3Geetee recommended it....thought it was a good idea...more anti-wear can't hurt... :D

I would disagree. Valvoline Racing VR1 20w50 and Mobil1 15w50 are both better choices for a flat tappet cam motor (they have higher levels of zinc and phos) and are readily available at Walmart, NAPA, Advance, etc.

+1. I was about to dump Rotella in my '87 351 until I did some reading on this forum and others. Flat tappet wants zinc.

You can find Valvoline VR1 at your local auto part store.

The boat has sat for years. Changed the oil and filter. Think the po had put in a load of cleaners and stop leak type things. Oil barely drained out. Anyway. Add back 20w50 FTC oil with mobil1 filter. Ran about 5 hours and was going to change again. I'm sure it's sludgy. Want to rule out all option for my low oil (0-5)pressure at idle issue before I pull the engine. Anything out there good at cleaning oil sludge and screen. Higher RPMs pressure is 50-75.

I put the Mobil 1. 15w50. In mine. Synthetic. Does it come in non synthetic. ? Just curious.

It is expensive.

All Mobil1 is synthetic. Mobil has other oils that are not... but I dont know which ones (if any) have the higher zinc/phos levels that flat tappets require. I buy the 5 qt jugs at Walmart for ~$26... seems pretty reasonable to me.

For the filter, I like Motorcraft FL-1A.

In Canada the Mobil is $12.00 bucks a liter cost me like $ 50 bucks. + taxes and Eco fees. Doh!

If price isn't a concern i would go with Royal Purple HPM, if price is a concern Mobil 1 is always a great choice

I use the wix filter 51515. Or the napa gold 1515
Are they decent filters

Yes, both are fine from what I have seen people recommend on here. Just stay away from FRAM or rebranded FRAM.

Thanks for the tips. Gonna try an oil change and if its still dropping pressure when hot im pulling the engine and checking the pump and valve. Thanks
