I have a 88 prostar with around 640 hrs and thinking at the end of the season it might be time for a rebuild on the carb. I know enough to be dangerous and am nervous about trying this myself. Does anyone know someone near Raleigh that is good with carbs that doesn't rape your wallet?

Thanks!

The 4160 is a pretty easy rebuild. Biggest thing is the cleaning. Let it soak atleast overnight. Set your floats level and make sure the gaskets seat properly.

Give Powerboat Marine a try, talk to Diego his wife will probably answer, a real nice lady, 919-790-7760 He worked on my 88 PS190 while the previous owner was taking care of it for me. :) I was told they were fair and only did what the boat needed, when it needed it. His carb was rebuilt by them. I got all the service records and PM worked on the boat exclusively since 1999. At 921 hrs it runs very well.

Second Diego. Runs a great shop.

Brandon at YourMobileTechnician is also excellent and fair.

Another option is Phillip White with Mobile Marine in Youngsville 919-422-8264. He is a friend of mine and is pretty competitively priced. He rebuilt my carb and seemed to know his stuff.

My boat is currently at Inboard Marine Service in Wilson right now for a complete run thru (sick of the small issues). (252) 237-0616. The guys name is Joe Thompson. Ive heard great things about him. I guess he only works on direct drive boats. When I dropped it off, there were MC's and Nautiques as far as the eye could see.

you can not go wrong with either Diego or Joe Thompson in Wilson , they are the only two that have worked on my 4 Mastercrafts over the years . I do perfer Joe Thompson in Wilson , he is worth the drive and the boats are locked in a fenced area plus he uses Lake Wilson for testing about 1/2 mile from his shop .

Alright... Just picked up my boat from Joe Thompsons shop. He is top notch and will be my mechanic of choice until he stops working on them. It's like a new boat.
