Well, I survived.
Here's a shot of a nice one. A buddy of mine is going bow hunting this fall, so I tagged along for the baiting of 3 different stands he wants to try. We set up a blind about 200' away on a small ridge and waited til
7pm before he showed up.

These pics are stills captured from video. I have about 20 min. of video of this bear opening up the pile of logs to get at the bait ( pizza crusts and old potato chips).
I used my camera and tripod from work to do this shoot. I'ts a Panasonic aj-410. It records to DVC Pro format. Cameras like this run about 13k.
I made a little movie to show how strong Yogi here is.... I'll try to make a link to it cause I don't think I can upload it. If somebody knows how lemme know.
When we were taping, the bear was extremely cautious as he entered the area, in fact, I think he smelled us. A coupla times he looked right at us and tested for our scent. It was a real thrill to be this close to the bear for a long period of time.
I'm not a hunter but I can now see why some of my friends are so passionate about the sport.....We did have a 9mm noisemaker with us just in case!

thats a black bear...i think i'd take a gun too, but id love to stick one with an arrow....black bears arent really all that big compared to the grizzly. still can kill somebody but a grown man could probably beat one off. in the old days they had them at fairs and you could wrestle with a black bear...this is how "Bear" Bryant got his name.....ok todays educational lecture is now concluded, carry on with the talk about women and beer :headbang:

Is that "normal" to bait a target area like that? ;)

I remember seeing them all the time in the Smokies of Tennessee (mostly around Gatlinburg), they are really beautiful to watch. Saw one guy even sit his ~4 yr old son on one for a pix, threw down marshmellows and quickly did an idiotic act.

These pics were taken in Wisconsin about 90 miles north of Green Bay.
Leroy, hunting bear over a bait pile is a common and legal method in WI. The other way is to run them with dogs. You would be hard pressed to ever see one if you didn't use bait.

I knew it was illegal in TN/NC. How is bear meat anyway?
