I'm new to this site (today) but not new to MasterCraft boats. I've owned 6, but all ProStar 190's. The family has grown, so now I'm looking at a 1998 Maristar 225 Sport, 380 hours with the LT-1 engine. I've never owned a V-drive style boat. My question is, is there anything to watch out for on this style or year of boat? My last 190 had the LT-1 engine so I know it's solid and reliable, just don't know much about the rest of the unit.
Thanks,
Bill

Pics of the boat always help... I dont know much about the Maristar 225, but what do you and your family do on the water?

My wife and I used to be avid water/barefoot skiers...but not anymore. We pull the kids around in a tube mostly, occasionaly water ski. I know I could buy any old boat to pull a tube with, but I've owned MasterCraft boats for 25 years or more (my first was a '75) and I just can't bring myself to buy anything else. I don't have pictures of the boat that I can post, but it is real clean. Garage kept since new, doesn't sit in the water longterm, good maintenance records kept. I'm just not sure if there are issues with this make and year of boat. There probably isn't, since it's a MC, but I figured if there was, someone on here would know.
Thanks,
Bill

Big boat, lots of space, nice ride in rough water. Decent recreational wakes for mist sports. Not as well mannered near the docks as your 190 of course, but how could it be? And it's a MasterCraft, so build quality is great.

Thank you for the reply. I asked about this boat because I've heard there were issues with the hull in 1998, I've heard the V-drive transmission is noisy and it's reliability is questionable. Now, having said that, my source is somewhat questionable himself. He thinks he knows alot about MC boats, not sure he really does. I love the 190's I've owned, just need more room.
Thanks,
Bill

I believe the hull issues had to do with the 98. There were corrective steps taken, though I've never met anyone who knows anyone who had an issue. Very popular subject just the same. Transmission, I hadn't heard of a problem, others might have. Putting it in front of the engine instead of behind is going to make any sound it foes make more notable .

same hull as 1st gen x30 and 230vrs up to 05. didn't know the LT-1 was in the 98, thought it was the LTR. only don't know if it matters, but with the sport, you lose the port bench seating in favor of the bucket seat.

Yes, it is this boat. I'm suppose to pick it up Saturday. I couldn't get him lower than $18.5K. It seems to be a very clean, well kept boat though. I'll find out Sat.

if you need a pre inspection by a dealer the boat is pretty darn close to dick lanes mastercraft of grand lake. i would be they have done the service on it.

I have a '98 225...it's been a great boat for our family the past 6 years, virtually problem free and a TON of fun!

The only downfall of the Sport Model is the bucket seat for the passenger...some people would much rather have the wrap-around seating.

I'm seriously thinking about listing mine for sale as it almost went on craigslist yesterday (wife and I are "debating" on budget for a new boat), feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions on mine or with the one you are going to pick up on Saturday.
