View Full Version : Hard to find Prostar 195 parts
07-16-2012, 11:47 AM
I am new to the forum so I am sure someone has posted about this before. I just bought a beautiful 2001 Prostar 195. The radio is in the glove box and the plastic housing cracked and the radio fell down into the storage compartment below. It is still functioning but I would like to replace the plastic piece and can't find anyone who can help. My Mastercraft dealer cant get the parts. Is there someone (website/store/marina) that can supply old Mastercraft parts? I really want to fix it right with a new piece as the boat is very clean and I would like to keep it that way!
Thanks for letting me join, I look forward to talking with everyone!

I owned a PS195 several years ago... Loved that boat.. Anyway can you give a better description or take a picture of the plastic that cracked? Most of the radio holes are just a cut out in the fiberglass and if there are any plastic parts its usually part of the radio or a plastic adaptor to help with a different radio size (single DIN vs. Dual DIN)

greatlakesskipper has always had what I need. If not you can always have stuff like that fabbed out of metal and then powdercoat it. Ditto on pictures though. never seen the part you are referring to

Pictures would help! We might be able to brainstorm up some other ideas that will look original without being an original part.

Thanks for the quick replies, I'll take some pictures and post them. Is that allowed? New to this so trying to stay in the rules.

Pictures are not only allowed, but very much so encouraged!
People on here love pictures... they're worth 1000 words (or more) ;)

Ck out places like Overtons or West Marine. They have generic cover plates, mounting kits for single din size radios.
Or Crutchfield. You're just looking for a mounting kit or cover plate, right?

Here is a picture of the glove box closed, the plastic base inside the door that makes up the glove box and the plastic housing after I took it out. You can see the opening for the radio and the crack in the plastic, I would like to replace the whole part but can have a plastics guy I know fix it, I would just rather have a new Mastercraft part if I can

Unless you find someone parting out a similar boat, your best bet would probably be to repair that crack...
If you have it done right, it will look brand new.

I believe the hull was the same as the 1995-1997 ProStar. Don't limit your search to just the 195 model. Not sure if that will get you any further with OEM parts or not though.
