View Full Version : Tach doesn't kick in until I've got the boat at speed.

1987 Mastercraft PS 190. Lately I've noticed that the tach will read zero when the boat is first starting & idling, and will not jump up until I get the boat moving at a good clip... at that point it seems to work fine.

Does anyone happen to know if there something that needs to be oiled, or adjusted? Or could this be an electrical gremlin?

Either a loose connection or the tachometer is failing, nothing to adjust or oil.

Could be a sign of low voltage - until you get the engine up to speed, there's not enough voltage to allow the tach to read. Put a voltmeter across the battery, and read the voltage when you're idling.
