A total of 27 people were originally aboard the 34-foot Silverton vessel, according to authorities.
Police are now investigating whether the vessel sank because of overcrowding. Some of the passengers aboard the boat had life jackets, while others did not.
3 children died, but my question is how the hell do you get 27 people on a 34 foot boat.

My guess is that most people would be up on the upper decks. That raises the center of gravity which, in extreme cases (negative GM), will make the boat inherently unstable. All it would take is a wave, a wind, or a turning motion to cause it to capsize.

Very poor decision on the part of the captain.

I concur!
We won't even let our 3yr old near the dock without a PFD on, let alone on the boat without it on.

I guess we learned by the MC lawsuit that this has to be a manufacturers design flaw. I feel horrible that three kids died and multiple families will suffer because of stupidity.

I also think of the California MC lawsuit, very sad, but sure a NY attorney will figure out how to sue either the boat manufacturer or the City of NY.

Gawd, there are far too many moronic boat owners in this world.
