View Full Version : Need help with the T handle on board rack
07-03-2012, 01:33 PM
This weekend while I was swiveling my board rack around....the T handle just came off in my hand. I dont think it broke...but it won't bite on any threads to screw back on either.
Any help here on how to get that T handle back together would be greatly appreciated.
My board rack is stuck in the half position with the rack facing backwards and I have already bumped my head on it twice while accessing the cooler under the seat....PITA.
Please help fellow TTers!

The T hand behind the swivel is just a pin. apply some pressure to the pin by moving the board rack to one side or the other while you have some pressure to the pin try threading the T hand back on, you'll know when its all the way threaded back on

Thanks snork....I will give that a try this evening.

Mine did the same thing a few weeks back, it is broken if the T handle came off and not the rest of the pin. You can un-thread the rest of it and pull the balance of the inner pin out. The rack will still spin 360, just now you don't have the stops at 90. I am waiting for my replacement, but again, at least with the entire threaded assembly out you can still spin your racks.
I think this happens from stress and people putting lateral pressure on the T Handle combined with not unscrewing the top knob all the way out. I am on my second one, dealer broke the last one, of course they replaced that one “No Charge”

never had one break on me just unthread itself

Here is what the T handle looks like...I can see threads up inside on that pin....but it still will not screw on. Is this thing broken?

Hmmm, I'm not exactly sure what to do, looks as though the pull pin came out with your T handle
wheres the spring that keeps the pin in place?

Decided to pull the whole assembly apart....definately looks like the pin broke in the T handle.
There was a piece inside the assembly and I could see where the broke off each other.
I guess I will be ordering a new one from MC tomorrow.
Thanks to all...

Neither of my T-handles are working. How do you remove them? It looks like simple construction, however I can not remove the large screw that enters the tower. Am I missing something, a set screw maybe?

The T handle breaks frequently based on the large supply my dealer keeps. Went thru 3 myself. The threaded sleeve containing the handle simply un screws from the collar.

So there is no set screw holding in the threaded sleeve? I have applied a lot of pressure with pliers and chewed up the thread trying to unscrew it from the collar, got about 1/2 a turn before it would not turn anymore.

Point, your profile says '06 X45, don't think you have a set screw, for sure '07 does not, but my '09 does, it is very small and just above the T Handle fitting.

Matt, there is a very small hole above T-Handle fitting on my 06', wish I had a pic but wont be down until Friday. Is your 09' set screw a hex/allen key? I believe the hole has a small hex screw but it was too small to tell for sure and thought it may have been a rivet or something. I tried 2 small keys. If it is a hex screw I think it was the size in between the two I had on hand. The set screw would explain why the threaded sleeve stopped after 1/2 a turn. I will post a pic of the hole above the T-Handle this weekend.
Thank you vision and MattsCraft for the info!

Do you mind telling me what dealership you bought your replacement T-handle at?

Talk to Bill or Brent
If I brake another one, probably won't replace, if you remove the rest of the assembly, the rack will spin 360, you just loose 90 stops points.
