Maybe Lloyd Carr can coach for a change in Columbus.

Steve

I dunno. I think Lloyd will have major troubles out coaching Mr. Sweater-vest (Tressel) AND WOODY!

Below...my wife rubbing elbows with some 'celebs'...

Have a good trip. We're trying to get tix to the Minn. game this weekend.

Went to UT/Alabama game this weekend. I love neyland stadium. Almost as cool as the big house and definately louder. Big house is actually not loud at all.

UT got lucky this weekend and if Alabama had any offence at all they would have won. UT will have to play much better to beat LSU.

Now it is known as the Game Formerly known as the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

I went to the game this weekend too. If UT's offense showed up, we would have won by 3 touchdowns. Ainge threw the ball like Ray Charles in the first half. I was very surpised that Shula punted the ball back to UT at the end of the game when they were down. You have to throw the score out the window in those rivalry games. Typical SEC matchup--low scores, no offense, questionable calls, and a very physical game. I love college football!

Overall, yes. Troy didn't throw great, but got it done with arm and legs (signs of a champion). Probably pretty tough conditions to throw accurate in, if conditions were anything like in Cincy today (WINDY!!!). Too many offensive turnovers. However, defense continues to impress.

Good to see Buckeyes putting away the teams they should, while (IMO) scUM have not impressed the last 2 weeks against teams a #2 should.

Guys, I hate to say this, but the championship game this year is going to be...shall we say over before it begins.

Look at the schedules and you will see that, assuming Ohio State wins out, odds are they will be playing.......West Virginia  West Virginia is unbeaten to this point with their biggest test Thursday against Louisville. If they win that game, they won't lose again based on their schedule (Cincinnati, Pitt, S. Florida, and Rutgers). OSU and W.V. will be the only two unbeaten teams, which will make the BCS feel all warm and fuzzy inside when we all know what there are at least two SEC teams that are better than WV. But, because the SEC beats up on each other, they will have a blemish on their records.

Fiesta Bowl prediction from me is WV and OSU.

no way will the BCS allow to teams from the same conference to play for the national championship. Not saying anything bad about either team. Will be a great game in a few weeks, and would be an even better rematch probably, but it ain't gonna happen. Of course it could if the Big Ten (11) big wigs would go to a championship game like most of the other confernces in america.

nothing better than talking college football and getting under each others skin about why their team can't win.

Letting it happen has nothing to do with it! It's all numbers to end all disputes. The BCS isn't like the AP where people get to vote on who is #1 and so on. It's all a matter of strength of schedule, opponents losses, margin of victory and so on.

Actually, the BCS is comprised of 2/3 'people' polls and 1/3 computer polls.

1/3 Harris, 1/3 USA Today, 1/3 computer to be exact. O/C I guess I'm no expert on what compiles the Harris and USA today polls...

Harris:
"This year, the BCS has again commissioned Harris Interactive to construct a panel of former players, coaches, administrators and current and former media who are committed to ranking the college teams each week during the 2006 college football season."

USA TODAY = Coaches Poll?

CP - You are bit confused on the whole outcome this year. UM's defense is not easily brought down with running quarterback anymore and if your boy stays in the pocket he is meat. Playing in the horseshow will not be easy (huge understatement) but UM will walk with a win!!! Write it down
OK, but I am using pencil so I can erase it at about 7:30 on Nov. 18th. when it doesn't happen.

My guess is that there will be 2 SEC teams with one loss and one of them lost to the other one by 1 point.

Don't see an SEC school in the Championship game, unless tosu or um pounds the other one. Remember 13 - 0 Auburn got taken behind the woodshed. They would have beaten USC or Oklahoma.

Sooner or later the SEC will tell the BCS to stick it. One out right champion and one tie in 9 years.

210, assuming your a mi-$hit-gan fan I have to be honest. I have had a bit of anxiety about the game on the 18th. But then I went through the scores of the games that THE Ohio State Buckeyes have played, and then I went through the muskrats schedule. It isn't even close. Buckeyes KILLED everyone they played this year. The most points they have given up this year was 17 and the least amount they have scored is 24, and that was against #2 Texas. You guys BARELY beat Northwestern.

Then I saw something last night that put my mind at ease. I saw a Q&A session with THE Jim Tressel, and I have to say after wathcing that, there ain't no way the muskrats are coming into the SHOE and walking out with an egg in the loss column.

As a degenerate gambler I post plays on games on websites like www.therx.com and www.bettingtalk.com. When I do I find that many times handicappers look to the past to predict the future. Many times people bet with the current trends as thier only source of reasoning. Take last night's game for example; All of the trends pointed to UVA. 76% of the offshore betting was sided with UVA. Most of the time the "betting public" is wrong as they were last night. To the average fan who has a mild understanding of football OSU would be the logical choice. I would wager the public money will be heavy on OSU on Novemeber 18th. That is a trend to follow. This game comes down to who wants it more and turnovers. I would be surprized to see OSU favored by more than 3-1/2. In any case it will be one hell of a game whichever side you might be on.;)

"average fan who has a mild understanding of football" is hardly a accurate definition of me, however you pose an interesting argument regarding WVU and UL. I was of the 24% that thought Louisville had a chance to win the game. Initially, I thought the game was in WV which swayed me toward WV, however once I saw it was in L'ville that changed my mind a bit. L'ville has won some big games the last few years but never seem to get much attention. It was good to see them win last night. We'll see them in Tempe on Jan 4th. (Unless they lose to Rutgers next week:rolleyes: )

As for who wants it more and the box score bit....Uh...we SPANKED Texas at their house, we SPANKED Iowa at their house, and beat Penn State soundly. mi-she-gan beat Indiana, INDIANA, by something like 10 points. I watch games and see how teams play to make my argument, I look at the box scores to back up my smack!

Michighan over OSU if they can stay in the game offensively. They'll have t okeep the ball away from OSU though in order to have any success. Their defense will keep them in the game until they have to be on the field too much. Offense wins games, Defense wins championships. Give them a few good breaks and a big special team play here and there, and Michighan has a great chance to knock em off. Keep MU's defense on the field too long and its game over for the wolverines. Love to see Big Blue win it, but their offense will have to have some success to even have a chance.

Speaking of Indiana didn't they beat Iowa? Yes I said Indiana.

Indiana has a great up and coming red shirt freshman QB. One that your head coach admits he lusted after in the recruiting process BTW.

Texas was just beaten by a resurging Nebraska team so they are certainly not the Texas they were last year.

You could make a case in either direction but saying we beat Indiana by ten when we haven't even played them yet tells me you should stick to 15 off cause you are "the public"...

So, who should be No. 3 now?

Also, if there ends up being no undefeated teams (except Michigan) at the end of the year, shouldn't Ohio State be No. 2? If their only loss is to the No. 1 team in the nation (Michigan), shouldn't they be higher in the rankings than all the other one-loss teams?

The same goes for Michigan if their only loss is to Ohio State. I think that makes a good case for a re-match at the national champioship no matter who wins on Nov. 18.

Mark my words "at the end of the year, the winner of the CAL USC game will be playing for the national championship" barring any minor setbacks by either team leading up to then. Both have played a tough overall schedule unlike the beloved big 12 which people around hear are always wacking on.

Here's a question. Who will win the WV Rutgers game at the end of the year also, and if WV wins what does that do to the polls. I still think that the Big East is weak and when UL loses to rutgers because of poor coaching and not making adjustments during the game, that doesn't say much for an overrated Cardinals team. Don't get me wrong, I didn't mind seeing RU fininsh a big game finally. They don't know how to quit, they stayed in the game and gave themselves a chance to win in the end and as a coach that is what you hope for from a team that is clearly outmatched. If UL makes any adjustments after halftime to their passing game, it's all over. Why do you keep in a spread formation with one back that 85% of the time goes out for a pass, when your QB is getting his a$$ kicked by quicker D lineman that are looping all night and linebackers blitzing gaps. You have got to keep someone else in that can be an effective pass blocker. Like a TE or FB and RB that aren't in the route. Minor adjustments would have won that game for em.

"What do I owe you for the pizza?"

The good news for U of M grads is that they can put their diploma on the dash of the car and then leaglly park in handicap zones.

hehehehe ... the funny thing is that if you look at the real data this is the farthest this from the truth. OSU graduates (well after the 7th year) Fast Food Managers ... lots of them and very good ones mind you but UM graduates the owners of those establishments.

I can not wait until the 18th ... should be fun!!!

I told TScott who is in Vegas to take IU and the points today. UM is favored by 19 and I do not see that happening. I think they'll win by 10 at most same goes for Tressel's group against Northwestern. Although Northwestern is a tougher team than people give them credit for. (Saw them in person three weeks ago)

Who will it be?

Rutgers is #6. USC plays notre lame, fla will play Ark in the SEC championship/ If Rutgers wins out, there will probably be two one loss teams in the top 5, along with Rutgers with no losses.

Who goes to Tempe?

Will Arkansas leap-frog all of them by winning out and beating fla in the SEC championship. Things that make you go HMMMMM.

I think that the BCS is sweating this year.

Dear Abby,

I am a crack dealer in Columbus who has recently been diagnosed as a carrier of the HIV virus. One of my sisters, who lives in Dublin, is married to a transvestite.

My parents live in the nice suburb of Worthington and both of them have recently been arrested for growing and selling marijuana. They are currently dependent on my other two sisters, who are prostitutes and live in Grove City.

I have two brothers. One is currently serving a life sentence in Lucasville for the murder of a teenage boy in 1994.

The other brother is currently in jail awaiting trial on charges of sexual misconduct with his three children.

I have recently become engaged to a former prostitute who lives in Atlanta and is still a part time "working girl", but only during the conventions.

All things considered, my main problem is this: I love my fiance with all my heart and look forward to bringing her into the family. However, I also want to be totally honest with her. Should I tell her about my cousin who is a Michigan fan?

GO WOLVERINES! Don't particulary care for either team, but would much rather see LLoyd Carr go to the big one than the sweater vest F@G Jim Tra$$hole. I can't beleive all the upsets this weekend in the college and pro ranks. Colt McCoy getting hurt really sucks for Texas, but that is how it goes. Auburn got outplayed and out coached, Florida should have lost, but played well enough to beat a below average SC team, Tennessee got steam rolled by Arkansas who is playing very well and with a lot of confidence, Cal played like garbage and deserved to lose. Whoever said that the BCS is sweating is probably right. When you have one clear cut deserving team (winner of MU/OSU) and anywhere from 3-7 more (MU/OSU loser deserve a rematch?) USC if they don't lose to CAL, Rutgers IF they win out and can get past a tough WV team, Florida if they win out, and the list keeps going but gets vague when you talk about Boise State who will win out, but plays such a weak schedule that they are grasping for straws to get in. Who knows, if we knew who was going to win then none and I repeat NONE of us would watch.

I'm sure you could disect every roster and find 'criminals'. I'm sure you could disect every program and find violations. WAS it a black-eye on the program...sure was. Can it be turned into a positive so that current and future players can learn...absolutely. Maybe 'keeping them in line' gives them an opportunity to right themselves.

This is signs of an inferiority complex. Compensating for the lack of something? Rooting for the Big Ten is essential in the bowls as it makes the conference better and stronger.

Ah, hold on BBB. I do root for the Big 10 when it comes to bowl games. I even root for players that come from the Big 10 in the NFL. I love the fact that Drew Brees is doing well in NO. It makes me smile 8p . However, I NEVER EVER root for ANYONE that plays for or played for meeshegan. And I never ever root for michigan in ANY bowl game. I do support the Big 10 much like Trickster supports the SEC, but I refuse to ever support your "boys".

Sorry, that is just the way I am programmed. Only fellow Buckeyes fans can understand this.

Hey trickster, is there an SEC team that you refuse to support come bowl time?

Now that is a man who knows what he is talking about!!!!

I have got to get out of Cleveland ... soon!!! I had dinner next to a OSU fan at a bar. I was reading the sports section of USA today and he asked me if he could have it after I was finished. I replied, "There are not that many pictures are you sure you still want it?" We had a good laugh and he went on to tell me the same joke that others on TT have already stated. Lame ... very lame!!!

Interesting article in the Plain Dealer (CLE) yesterday about the players. It stated they do not hate each other that is just the fans. They respect each other. It was a good article.

Maristar, well I WILL be sleeping well on Saturday night for two reasons, first I will be dreaming of who the Buckeyes will be playing in Tempe, and second the copius amounts of alcohol that will have been consumed. I must say I am not a post man, nor do I look like Newman.

Interesting story. Four of my friends met out last night at the Winking Lizard in Canton to discuss the menu for Saturday. And in walks one guy wearing a "m" hat. Nobody really says ANYTHING to him, then he proceeds to go and play "hail to the vicker" on the music player they have at the restaurant. Now, NOBODY was saying really anything to him until that point. So about 6 or 7 BUCKEYES fans go over and play the OSU fight song, hand on sloopy, and (my favorite) we don't give a damn about the whole state of michigan about 4 times each. The place starts going nuts. People yelling O-H, I-O back and forth, singing hang on sloopy, and yelling ann arbor is a whore. Man it was 4 days till the game last night and EVERYONE is already jacked for this.

BBB, you weren't by chance in Canton last evening were you?

Was this guy on a SUICIDE MISSION??? But I have to ask CP why did it take 6 to 7 people to commandeer the jukebox? Was this guy that BIG?? Or were you just intimidated my a Michigan fan that's brave enough to walk-in to your bar and play "Hail to the Victor"?

It wasn't like they physically removed him from the jukebox, they just went over and played the songs I mentioned like 4 times each so we didnt' have to listen to that crap the 'm' fan played. I told the owner of the restaurant that he needed to delete that song from the playlist, but it is fed by the internet somehow. I told him he needs to get his IT guy on it pronto.

On a separate note, being a HUGE Bengals fan I loathe the fact that chris perry is on our team. He is such a bust, always hurt, and fumbled against the ravens that contributed to us losing the game.

They just don't make them like Eddie George anymore.

"Forget the rest of the season ... just give the national title to the winner of the Michigan-Ohio State showdown this weekend. Giving credit to yet another ten-win Boise State season, the turnaround of turnarounds, Rutgers' big night and more in this week's 5 Thoughts.

Let's save the time, the effort, and the energy
By Pete Fiutak
Bring the national championship trophy to Columbus this weekend and just give it to the winner of the Michigan-Ohio State game. Enough is enough this year. Has Florida looked even remotely like a national title-caliber team? USC lost to an Oregon State team that just got thumped by UCLA. Does Arkansas really belong in the national title considering it got obliterated 50-14 at home by the Trojans? Sure, that was a lifetime ago, but the loss has to still count for something. Notre Dame needed everything in its bag to beat Michigan State and UCLA and, in case you forgot, got its doors blown off by Michigan. Rutgers? I know, cute story, but come on. Texas, Cal, Auburn ... thanks for playing. And no, there shouldn't be a rematch no matter what happens next weekend. What happens in Columbus, stays in Columbus.

Not only have Ohio State and Michigan had the two best teams all year, there isn't anyone else deserving to be in the picture. In the storied history of college football's greatest rivalry, and it is college football's greatest rivalry, this will be the biggest game ever played between the two. That makes this, arguably, the biggest regular season game in the history of the sport. So let this weekend be it. Crown the winner the national champion, and let's get the talk about the 2007 season going. USC, Florida or Arkansas as the preseason No. 1 ..."

We finally agree on something. It would save in shipping cost just to send it straight to Ann Arbor for the trophy case. That would be the smart this to do. If they bring it to Columbus then we are just going to have to rebox it up and take it with us. What a hassel.

NOT SO FAST CP

This Guy is either a complete MORON or a SHUT-IN. Biggest regular season game in the history of the sport? Not only have they beaten the best two teams all year, there isn't anyone else deserving to be in the picture?

Has he forgotten about the Florida State & Notre Dame game in 93? The Florida State & Miami games, or the Miami & Notre Dame games over the past 2 decades? These were great classic games that fans paid more for tickets to attend these games than the OSU & UM game this weekend.

The OSU & UM game will be a good game, but it certainly isn't for the National Championship. It is however, to determine who will play for the National Championship.

As far as beating the the best two teams this year, Notre Dame has one loss as does Florida, USC, Arkansas, WV, Wisconsin, Louisville, and let's not forget about Wake Forest. Texas has two losses, so how can he count them as one of the top two teams this year?

Now let's compare strength of schedules: Ohio State has played 3 ranked opponents: then #2 Texas which is now 9-2, then #24 Penn St. now 7-4 and then #13 Iowa now 6-5. Only those 3 teams have winning records. The rest of their opponents have a combined win loss record of 33 & 52 or a 64% loosing average. YES SIR, pretty impressive opponents right there.

Michigan has only played one ranked opponent, then #2 Notre Dame currently ranked #5. They have played 5 teams with winning records: Central Michigan, Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Minnesota, & Penn St. The rest of their opponents have a win loss record of 25 & 41 or a 61% loosing average.

Florida has played 3 ranked opponents as well: then #13 Tennesse now 7-3, then #9 LSU now 8-2, and then #11 Auburn now 9-2. They have also played 4 other teams with winning records: Southern Miss.,Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina is 5-5. The rest of their oponents have a combined win loss record of 7-11 or a 64% loosing average. But remember, they have only played 2 teams with loosing records and 7 teams with winning records.

So this hometown sports writer might want to look a little further South before spouting off. Oh, I'm sure he would like the National Championship to be decided this weekend, but it won't be. The winner of the OSU & UM without a doubt deserves to play for the National Championship. Then there are a lot of quality 1 loss teams that deserve their shot at going to the BIG GAME.

FLORIDA controls their own destiny. If they win out the deserve a shot at the winner of this weekends OSU & UM game. Can the Gators win it all? That will be determined on the field, and why we play the game.

This is great data Trick. Well done!!! You are making an asumption that college football actually makes sense. Bad assumption.

I will throw in my 2 cents ... Living in SEC country, I do believe ever since Woodson won the Heisman and Auburn got the $crew when they went undefeat that the SEC has a bit of a complex. The "We beat each other up" story is getting stale. Get over it and win the games on your schedule. My opinion is that Florida and LSU look very good and are the real deal. TN, Ark and Auburn are way overrated and just pretenders.
