THE point is don't use the military to fuel your insults. I know you didn't mean to step in it, but you did.

I don't think any less of you for it. I mean, how could I? :D

Agreed. CP if this happened in the shoe I would have been respectful, you were not. Enjoy the jerk sandwich.

Did everyone lose their sense of humor post Labor Day? My point was, of all the football stadiums they could have done this, they did it in michigan. Loosen up fellas. They did a pre game salute at THE Ohio State University with the Army which I thought was cool. They sent the entire teams out as captains and the teams greeted each other at mid field. I wasn't hating on our service men. Hell my nephew is in the Air Force so get a grip. If you can't see my point I can't help you.

I don't think a sense of humor has anything to do with it. Do you think you're being funny whenever you spew out that anti-Michigan bullsht? You're just being hateful.

Why, yes I do.

Isn't that what an arch rival is? Your most hated opponent. And I hate michigan.......soooooooo, yup, being hateful. Let me sum this up for you with a famous quote, " why did you go for 2? Because I couldn't go for three!"

I think it would be better if we just ended the topic and got onto something really important..........Clemson sure is looking good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm in Vegas right now an Clemson to take the National Championship is 8-1. I might put a little money down on that.

And I use that term loosely!!

Clemson is looking better then their pre season 5 ranking that's for sure. But, Auburn came very close to pulling that game off. They looked better against Louisville then they did Auburn but that doesn't say much. It's going to take mid season to really get an idea where everyone stacks up.

I'd also like to add that Clemson's strength of schedule is laughable at best.

I'm just glad we have football now that boating is coming to close for this season. It just means sunday morning screwdriver and hot tub rants for me! :D

Hey, I just want to be clear on the 'unwritten rules'. I mean, Maristar made fun of The Buckeyes opponent this week, UNLV, because they 'suck'. So, to counter his point I wanted to point out meatchickens lackluster schedule of weak opponents to this point ....which happens to include The Air Force. So to make sure I don't make a mistake, can I say that The Air Force college football team was a weak opponent or will that ruffle feathers?

To quote my buddy with whom I happen to agree, "I guess the coach would rather stay loyal to a bad QB and lose than win big games".

I'm thinking

T A&M v Arkansas for the early game, so long as Arkansas' head coach doesn't assault any of the away teams players.

I think Bama v Vandy 3:30 will be a good game, mostly because Bama's D is weak and unproven atm.

I also like USC v Cal two undefeated teams with something to prove. I think it's gonna be tight. OSU v TCU on the flip.

M state and Georgia for the late game with a channel flip to Auburn Mizzu.

And finally UCLA v Stanford.

I got a butt to put down in the AM and then some vehicle maintenance to get done.

All through the games they fight;

They're still young on both sides of the ball and got outclassed by a more veteran team. If Barkley and McSorley aren't playing for PSU, it's an entirely different game. Those guys are special players. My bet is they have it together come next season. But if they don't, hard to say the Big Blue is going to let Harbaugh hang around much longer.

As a fellow Buckeye fan, I find your encouragement to tsun nation a bit unsettling. There is no reason to coddle them or give them hope when they are down. That school is our mortal enemy. Did they do that for us in the 90's during the cooper years when that a$$hat went 2-10-1 against them? Nope, so don't give any now. It's not time to get soft, it's time to double down, show no mercy, put the hammer down, etc.

They need to bring rich-rod back or bring Fred Flintstone (choke/hoke) back to coach again as far as I'm concerned. Watching harbum flounder around gives me great pleasure.

I think Miami and Clemson play for ACC, Bama and GA for SEC, Penn beats Ohio and TCU beats OU so Penn v TCU for Big12, and if ND wins out they get the 4th slot.

Unless, GA is a one loss team to Bama and the committee has some nuts. I mean how do you put ND in and not GA with GA beating ND and 1 loss to Bama.

But I will still inflate up ol' Brutus on Saturday and wear all my gear .... I promise, unless they are playing Army again ;) then my loyalty is tested.

Peace. Go Bucks and O-H !

Read what I wrote. For the LONGEST time Tennessee was the main rival of Alabama. While I may have just started watching college ball I have read up on the history of the team. Sure, currently, the Iron bowl is the biggest game. But that's just been the last 5 or 6 years. It was the kick six and Scam Newton that has thrusted Auburn into a must win we hate your guts type of game.

You're asking current kids who've been alive 19 years and just started learning about Alabama's rivalries. For decades Tennessee vs Alabama was the game of the year. The only reason that has changed is because Tennessee is now crap.

The Official Bryant Denny Dixieland Delight lyrics mention both teams, but the song is no longer played in the stadium because F**k Auburn was being shouted on repeat, not because of too many mentions of the Volunteers.

How quickly people forget. Again, that has to be based on the current youth.

If you look at who Alabama was fighting against to win SEC and national championships over the last 30 years, it wasn't Auburn! Not until the kick six and newton did Auburn get so much focused attention.

However, I do agree, beating Auburn is a must each and every year. 8p

I was with the 92 team before the last game as they were being honored for the Natty a few weeks ago...this conversation came up with some of them and they all felt it was Tennessee.

A friend of mine wrote a great book about it with a little help from my father, check it out.

https://www.amazon.com/Third-Saturday-October-Game-Game/dp/1581822170

I get Auburn is out big in state rival but the football program and the historical implications are that Tennessee is our main rival. Bryant felt that way as well.

He has an 8.1m buyout so I expect him to make it a couple more years. I don't think they could bring in a better coach at that kind of money.

On the other hand, Florida is looking at a firing for cause with McElwain and thus not paying the buyout on him. If they don't have to pay the buyout it's a no brainer.

So having a god-awful team that hasn't seen a SEC championship since the Fulmer days and currently winless in the SEC without a viable explanation is not good enough to fire for cause? The players obviously have no motivation, there's a lack of leadership and Butch's game mismanagement has been consistent throughout his career. That stacked on top of the current results seems justifiable to me.

UofF has been middling since Urban Meyer left, but the recent scandal associated with the CC fraud is certainly indicative of lax disciplinary standards.
As far as FSU goes. I think Jimbo Fisher is a good coach, and it's hard to say they've fallen off as of late as they've certainly been in the conversation over the last few years, just haven't gotten over the Clemson hump. This year in particular, their offense was centered around a dynamic dual threat, legitimate super-star QB, that got knocked out of the game by Bama. You could argue their season would have shaped up differently had that not occurred.

Well, if they could fire for cause because of a poor season then there would be no need for contracts in the first place.

Florida is having their attorney staff look into firing for cause because Mcelwaine had revealed to the public that he and some of his staff were receiving death threats. Which seems to have been a lie. They are trying to say it was a breach of his contract to do so. I think it's complete horse ****!

With this logic there would be no such thing as a student section, no students on the field as cheer/yell leaders, the students couldnt dress up as the mascot, only Alumni. Where does that logic come from?

Yes, just as stupid an idea as saying you shouldn't root for a school you didn't attend.

The premise of rooting for a school you didn’t attend automatically puts you into the “bandwagon” genre of fan. You have no ties to this school. I understand the butthurt, but at the end of the day, the only thing that draws you to a team is the fact they win.

OK, so with this logic, I went to high school 'x', now my kids go to high school 'y', so am I not allowed to root for high school 'y' because I didn't go there?

I grew up in Ohio rooting for Ohio State. I didn't go there for a list of reasons that aren't important to this debate, but I didn't go there. So does that mean that I have to stop rooting for Ohio State because I went to Kent State? ...so ALLLLLLL those students that go to trade schools, community college, and small tech schools......aren't allowed to root for any other college team? It's stupid logic.

Now, just to have some more fun with this. If I were to move to California, I certainly would not become a fan of UCLA, SDSU, USC, etc. Why? Because that's not where I grew up. If I went out there I certainly wouldn't become a USC fan, neither because it would be easy since they are a good program, but because that is just bandwagon.....and it would be unnatural and would just feel wrong.

Gezz, you really are being difficult about this. I've explained it to you many times over the years.

I never followed college sports growing up in CA. I never followed college sports while I was in the Army. It wasn't until after I retired IN Alabama that I started following college ball.

In Alabama you HAVE to choose between two teams. All of my friends that I was boating with were Alabama fans so I just gravitated that way. That's just the way it is.

If I would have retired in Ohio and been drawn into college football by a Buckeye's fan then that could be possible.

I didn't wake up one morning and say to myself, hey Alabama's a pretty good team, let's go with them.

tl;dr no, they are both **** teams!! :D

ps the ONLY time you bring this up is when your team is failing. :D When Alabama gets beat you're happy as punch that I'm a Bama fan!

The cure for that rather simple in design but very difficult in execution. Other teams need to up their game and beat them for 4 or 5 years in a row. That might cool the media's jets but it wont stop the fans. :D

You really can't expect to beat them once and hype train get derailed. Over the last 9 years what is their loss rate? Like 1.4 games a season?

Beating Bama is simpler said than done. In College Football with recruiting the rich get richer. Imagine if the super bowl champs got the first draft pick every year, thats essentially what the current system is in College because programs can’t offer to pay their players. If you’re a 5 star recruit, you have no reason to attend any other school than Bama. I’m not saying its unfair, but it is one of the many reasons I think programs should be allowed to pay players.

LSU exposed a weakness by scoring 10 points?? I mean 10 points, really? The only thing LSU exposed last week is they are terrible and they gained another L all while proving they need a new head coach. I mean you lost to Troy!!!

The only thing MSST did was take full advantage of 4th string starters because of injuries.

Auburn beats GA year in and year out and it has no impact on the Iron Bowl.

Uh, the two of you can back right on up. And yes, that is a sentence ended in a preposition.

brian kelly basically abandoned his entire team in Cincinnati for his own personal gain ignoring his reputation and morals. He built up the UC Bearcats football team, took them to their biggest bowl game in the history of the program....then left those young men before they played that game. There were players on that team that gave him the 5 best years of their football careers...and he abandoned them for money. That is repugnant, period. I have more respect for jim harbaugh than brian kelly if that tells you anything. You can blah, blah, Urban Meyer this or that, but he never did something on this level.

And to add to this, if the conversation was never started by kelly with notre lame that, 'hey, honored to be your pick for coach, but I have one more game to complete with these young men that have given me 5 years of their careers, I'll bet there on Jan. 2. If he never started that conversation, to hell with him. If he did and noter lame said, come now or don't come at all, then shame on them for doing that....and double shame on kelly for going anyway.

Either scenario he is a scum bag. I wish nothing but failure for that guy no matter where he goes in coaching because he has no morals..

Unbelievable. You could replace bearcats with Utah and kelly for meyer in your above argument.

If you would like to educate me on this, I'm all ears. I like Urban Meyer....but he is no Jim Tressel

From the above. (Not many are above board when it comes to leaving and they recruit kids telling them they are going to be there).

When Meyer left Utah, a school that he guided to a 12-0 season and their only BCS appearance, it was not on good terms. As Salt Lake Tribune sportswriter Gordon Monson wrote following Meyer's announced move to Florida, unifying the anger and frustration of Utes fans:

"The problem with Urban Meyer is, unless you know the real inside scoop, it's hard to tell when he's lying.

Maybe it's only when he's moving his lips...

Go back and check his quotes in past months about his full intention of staying at Utah as long as the stadium is full and the student-athletes are getting their opportunity to be a Top 25 team, about how much his family loves Salt Lake City, about blah, and blah and blah."

Most every poll has the top 6 as: (in alphabetical order)

* Alabama - Mercer, Bama, SEC Championship(?)
* Auburn - Louisiana Monroe, Bama, SEC Championship(?)
* Clemson - Citadel, South Carolina, ACC Championship vs Miami
* Miami - Virginia, Pittsburgh, ACC Championship vs Clemson
* Oklahoma - KU, W. Virginia, Big 12 Championship (vs OK State or TCU)
* Wisconsin - Michigan, Minnesota, Big 10 Championship

But from what you know right now, and seeing their future opponents, how do you see the FINAL top 4 and why?

I predict that Bama will lose to Auburn. Then you have the SEC Championship which will pit GA vs Auburn in GA's back yard. Imagine what could happen if GA wins SEC Championship!

I don't think that Wisconsin can win back-to-back-to-back-to-back vs Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Big 10 Championship (just my guess). So I think they don't make the final cut.

I can see Clemson, Auburn and Oklahoma winning out. So that is 3 of my 4. I am struggling with my 4th....

So he left Utah. I'm not going to fault a guy for wanting to further his career and get to a higher setting. This kind of thing happens all the time, coaches pay lip service to the fans, etc. But when a guy walks out and flat out abandons young players that have worked their tails off before the biggest game of their lives, that speaks volumes. Actions speak louder than words. Meyer may have left Utah, but he was on the sideline of the Fiesta Bowl coaching the team in the biggest game of that programs history.

I don't fault Kelly for leaving for a better job and better money. You don't know what kind of demands ND put in front of him before the bowl game. He has to do what's best for him and his family first. What about a guy like Spurrier who leaves during the middle of the season? Meyer who retires from Florida for health reasons and then accepts the OSU job several months later?

Butch Davis told his players that he was not leaving after a bowl game and was announced as the Browns head coach that Sunday. The Miami AD was playing games with his contract extension so Butch left. I don't fault him for taking on a new challenge especially when there are things at work behind the scenes we don't have a clue about. That's the nature of the business.

I'd like to see you two defend your coaches on their own merit, not the other guys wrong doings. That would make for a good read from two passionate, dedicated fans.

As I recall the rumors where flying around before the bowl game and he may have felt that he needed to tell the kids than to lie to their faces. We really don't know.

Respectfully- My overall point is I don't think its intellectually honest to call someone a scumbag when the coach for the team you follow has plenty of skeletons in his closet. Including all the arrests, etc...

Assuming your talking about me. I am not a fan of either. It just bother me when people turn a blind eye to the behavior of those connected to their own team and hurl insults at others.

I specified that above. If nd said come now or don't come at all, then shame on nd (another reason to dislike them) and then shame on him for abandoning his players. Spurrier is a dirt-bag as well. Coaches are going to leave, period. Nature of the business. But not all coaches abandon their players. Speaks volumes to their character....or lack thereof.

By the way congrats on the win this past weekend. Good to see Miami beating nd again.

So a mid season loss to an unranked team is better then a late season loss to a ranked team. I think the committee just picks them out of a hat!!

Seems like the committee is giving Clemson a pass on their loss to Syr because their qb was not playing. I believe OU was missing their best WR and RB in the loss to ISU. They're not getting a pass. So, the committee is just going to speculate that Clemson would've won had Bryant not gotten hurt. What about suspended players? Or some guy gets ejected for targeting and then the team loses? Are they going to make an exception for those situations? If a good player goes down, then a good team steps up in other areas to make up for it.

Yeah, it's getting harder and harder to see where the committee is coming from.

Maybe Bama can get one because of the 6 defensive starters that are out? :D

Doubtful. Below is the actual committee mantra. Good luck figuring it out:

Championships matter...until they don't
Injuries will be taken into consideration...until they won't
Body of work is important...until it's not
Recency trumps body of work...until is doesn't
Strength of schedule matters...until it doesn't
margin of victory (or loss) doesn't matter...until it does
