I was on a dial up this weekend and couldn't easily locate this thread for some reason. #90 on the Horns' defense is my new hero. That guy weighs 300+ and was burning up the field like someone had put a pork chop in the end zone. Hook em.

With Chris Simms miles away, I'll say it is, at least, less likely. It would appear that the Longhorns are taking all opponents very seriously this year.

The scary part is that all roads lead to USC.

They have Herbstret and somebody else comparing the '05 USC team against other National Champion Teams from years past.

Did they play the Rose bowl already?

No Disrespect to the SC fans here on the board, but they are not one of the "greatest teams ever". Give me a break.

I say the the 1916 Georgia Tech team would beat SC because they scored 222 points in a single game.

Apples and Oranges. Whether they beat USC or not, Texas probably has the best overall team it has ever had, including the 3 champion teams from the 60s and 70s. I think you take the best team from 1916 and the best team from 2005 and 1916 is going down because they are wearing leather helmets.

Clearly. I was using that team as a tongue-in-cheek example at the absurdity of such comparisons. They try and do this with High School Football Teams here in Georgia all the time. I was going more for the fact that the media is already crowning USC the champs and trying to make them out to be the greatest team of all time. The great thing about college football is that any of the premier programs can beat another premier program on any given Saturday.

As my great aunt in Austin says.....Go Horns..Hook 'em.

Yeah, I was kidding. But I still think today's teams have an advantage over teams of 30 years ago. Better conditioning, better weight training, better equipment.

The triple threat next year will be Smith (much improved), Pittman, and Ginn (providing he plays like he did in Fiesta Bowl). The defense will be the question mark!

Good luck tonight.

They play in the #5 conference in the nation and don't face any defenses week in and week out. The Pac 10 blows and USC is over-rated.

Yes, I did indeed get to go. Took 4 days of vacation, left on Tuesday for Burbank, came back on Friday late. Best 4 days of my life accept for the pick up game of football my friends had with a group of SC fans before the game. May have blown my knee out, but it was worth it, because we beat them as well! I went to the Rose Bowl last year as well and our seats were about in the same spot, corner endzone of the UT section. Just above the band. There really is not a bad seat there. I stopped drinking an hour before the game, so I did not miss anything. I was there from pre-game to post game ceremonies. Was a sight to behold. Very surreal. Not sure if I really saw what I saw. Emotions all over the charts. We were exhausted after the game.

Not really, Bomar is an idiot both on and off the field. I personally wasn't all that impressed with him. The bigger loss was JD Quinn, a starting OL, but OU got some big guys to play and Peterson will still be abnle to run over anyone. OU's receivers also grew up last season so the new QB will have something to work with.

Chucky - Where you been man?

Joe T? You know I like Joe T. I think he is a stand up guy. BCS bound? Well let's not get too ahead of ourselves.

I just have a couple of things to say, we have David Cutcliffe back in the Big Orange Nation. UGA has only beaten Cutty 3 times when he was on the Vol staff. 1980-1997. Of course 2 of those games UGA had some guy named Herschel.

Ainge is getting 85% of all the reps, unlike last year where he was splitting time with one of those dam clausens. His head is screwed on straight and his confidence is back.

I will be in Athens wearing all Orange, last time we were there the world was righted.

2006 ranking by position listed Matt Stafford as the #1 QB prospect according to Rivals.com but you might have a diffrent source. Point of fact is the kid is amazing and will be running our offense before the end of the season. As for the Gators, I hate to admit that they have our number....maybe it has something to do with 3 things: Georgia football wasn't a powerhouse in the 90's, Florida is a great ball team, and the jean shorts......it's hard to beat a team on the field when you are amazed at the number of jean shorts in the stadium;) , we'll see...I am more confident of a win over UT than Florida....Florida always seems to have our number. I still say we should go back to home and away.....because regardless of who you cheer for, Jacksonville is not a neutral site...plus I am getting too old to go the Landing.

I'd love to show the "Chief" for the fighting Illini which in football will probably be the door mat this year but I heard on WGN radio this morning that he'll probably be nixed by the end of the year because due to a bunch of commie bed wetting pukes he is a racist symbol. There got that off my chest!

You mean 2, right? 8p

First offensive drive with no points just happened for OSU. 28-0 with +9mins left in 2nd.

At least the OSU defense is getting a lot of playing time. We need the experience!

btw...congrats on your win. Always have to root the Big Ten on!

was not pretty, but defense rules and fsu beat their arch rival, the miami hurricanes. now i can go back to florida for the clemson, virginia, and gaytor (u of fla) games without my gaytor buddies giving me a bunch of crap. also, i can go to the hawkeye games and not have to listen to the hawk fans give me a bunch of mess about big10 and the other little sister conferences. don't get me wrong, the hawkeyes are great folks and i am a hawkeye fan but first i am a southerner by birth and second seminole by the grace of God.

Another HUGE game in week two for #1 tOSU Buckeyes and the #2 Texas Longhorns. National championship implications this weekend! Texas is not doing themselves any favors by having 2 defensive players suspended. Especially the starting CB that was going to cover Ginn Jr.

Go Buckeyes!

If this site gave out stars I'd give you 4. The only reason you'd not get 5 is b/c they were NFL and this is a NCAAFB thread! :D

Side note: Looks like Carolina and Texas are the places to be! How come not Browns cheerleaders??? :(

Any of you Ohio State fans coming to Austin this weekend? We decided last night to drive to my brother-in-law's place in New Braunfel's to watch it on a TV a little closer to the stadium.

Yeah, bummer for us about the suspensions. I don't know what's happening in this world. I still remember a time when football players were above the law. ;)

Here's to a good game! If you guys beat us, I'll root for you all in your future match ups that don't involve us until we meet again.

If you look closely at the picture I attached, the file has ALL the conferences. I just display the most important one! :D

ETS...I read today where both suspended UT players passed drug tests. Maybe coach jumped the gun a little, or he's setting an example.
Either way...enjoy the game, but hopefully not too much! ;)

Last I heard, they were suspended because of the arrest, which struck me as jumping the gun until charges were brough. I haven't followed it closely enough to know if they were arraigned or what. Anyway, I'll find out who's playing what come Saturday.

You enjoy the game, too ... but not too much. :headbang: http://www.uo.od.ua/board/style_emoticons/default/texas.gif

was watching espn game day program this am, and saw two ridiculous things. one was the new steve spurrier look (sorry tricks, know he is your man), ie is he using grecian formula for a younger look (barf) or wearing a stupid looking piece. if it is a piece and he is wearing it for medical reasons (like the big C), then my sincere appologies. the other is brent "mush mouth" musberger, another story however. his horrible announcing is legendary, but would someone from the network please insist that he have a wardrobe upgrade. he hurts both the eyes and ears!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crap! Now we have to listen to buckeye fans try to spell their home state for the next 4 months (O_H_I_Oh shut up). I went to a wedding last night where people were actually wearing ohio state hats at the wedding. Painfully tacky. At least my Hoosiers squeaked out a win against the MAC powerhouse Ball State.

Went to the Tennessee vs Air Force Game last night and my boys in blue gave the Vols a run for there money! I am active duty here in Knoxville and went to the game with a few co workers. We were the few in blue in a sea of oarnge. It was a great game. A real nail bitter to the end. 4th Qt AF kicks a on side kick and recovers. They travel down feild in a few plays and score to make it 31 to 30 Vols. Faced with the Decision to kick or go for 2 my boys show everyone that they came here to win and they try for 2. Unfortunitly they were stoped. Then they try another onside kick and recover ,but were called offsides. Try it again and finaly Tn. pulled there heads out and recovered. WHAT A Game:eek3: :eek3: :eek3:
I can't wait to see the Fl. Gators stomp the Vols next week.
BTW I am a die hard Gator Fan but also must suport my Air Force Team mates!!

By far the best game of the Day.............

I kinda expected the horns to give 21 to 24points(what with the suspensions and all..) to ohio state but NEVER expected to see the offense so inept.. Howbout that seldin young? My bet is the redshirt freshmanQB will catch undue hell this week in the papers when young let the Horns down on some BIG game situations saturday

I was in New Braunfels, and could smell the stink from Austin.

I love them, but the Longhorns were just depressing to watch on Saturday. No fire at all. We just rolled over. Our secondary was pathetic. Congrats to OSU. I'm sorry we couldn't give you a better run for it ... I really am. Good luck in your bid for a championship. I hope my team can pull it together so that I don't feel this way every Monday.

Wasn't around to post this on Friday after I found out.

Georgia Southern University lost it's football father Friday morning. The great Erk Russell died of what appears to be a stroke at 80 years old. It seems kind of odd, as I remember him almost hitting me in his blazer everyday on my way to class and him leaving the weight room. Gonna miss you Erk!
