I totally agree...As good a player as Spikes is, he should be suspended for the rest of the season. That was totally uncalled for!!!

After last nights Seminole loss, is it time for Bowden to retire at the end of this year?

Has the game passed him bye or do the assistant coaches need to be replaced?

With Wake Forest, Maryland, & Florida left on their schedule they have to win at least 2 to be Bowl eligible..............

Urban Meyer Fined $30,000

Posted by: Kyle Phillippi (http://www.gatorsportsnation.com/author/gatorblue122/) on Nov 6th, 2009 (http://www.gatorsportsnation.com/2009/11/08)

The SEC officiating has been questioned a lot this season. Some refs have been suspended for a few weeks for horrendus calls against Georgia and Alabama. Now, Urban Meyer will have to drop $30,000 for comments that were directed to the poor officiating in the SEC. Meyer said that the refs missed a late hit on Florida Quarterback, Tim Tebow in the game against Georgia. He believed that Georgia Linebacker, Nick Williams, should have been flagged after the play.

The fine given to Meyer is the first fine handed out by the SEC since they changed their policy about coaches publicky critcizing referees. The conference did away with reprimands, and now they will only hand out either a fine or a suspension. Meyer’s has responded to the fining:

“”As I stated last week, I have great respect for Commissioner Mike Slive and the Southeastern Conference and I respect this decision,” Meyer said. “There was no intent to criticize an official after being asked about a situation that occurred last Saturday and I apologize for my remarks.”

First - Did you see the play that Coach Meyer was referring too?

Second - The comment above was a response to a question asked during an interview about the contents of the letter that he had written to the SEC Comissioner. It was not something that Coach Meyer brought up.

Third - You are apparently dodging my question if Coach Bowden should retire at the end of the season? It's going to be hard for the Noles to become Bowl eligible with their remaining schedule.

Should Bowden retire? Yup, not a question.. he's lost (seemingly) his drive and motivation to coach.

As for the latest BCS rankings... I'm jumping on the TCU bandwagon (if there is one). Simply because, I can not stand the way the BCS is set up and I'd like to see an outsider really have their chance at the big time.

Oh and Tricky, as far as my Hogs go.. we have 87% of our entire roster is a Junior or younger. We only have 15 seniors on our ENTIRE ROSTER. We should have a pretty decent team as these young guys mature and if Petrino can recruit some top-quality young talent this off season.

I am not a fair weathered fan. I am just getting a belly full of watching our defense play out of postion game after game. Ever since D.C. Willie Martinez took over we have gone from the # 2 Defense in 2005, #4 in 2006, # 3 in 2007, # 10 2008, # 11 2009. In 42 games Brian Van Gorder's defense only aloud one 30 point game. Since Martinez has taken over Georgia's defense has given up 30 points or more in 17 games.

Uh, let's see.....this is precisely why I loathe the SEC, because the fans are....well....I'll just keep that to myself. I will say however 5 of those losses were during the john cooper years, a piece of history all Buckeyes fans would soon rather forget. Oh, since you are being a typical SEC fan you might as well add in 2007 and the loss to LSU. jamarcus russell has just been a real juggernaught in the NFL hasn't he? I'm sure you're proud to have him representing the SEC in the NFL.

Tressel did his best in 2001 with coopers boys but just missed getting it done.

Oh, since you are being a typical SEC fan you might as well add in 2007 and the loss to LSU. jamarcus russell has just been a real juggernaught in the NFL hasn't he? I'm sure you're proud to have him representing the SEC in the NFL.

One more game to go and then I can't wait until next season when I won't have to hear about tim teabag EVER again. 8p Well, at least until you can find someone else on the gaytors to talk about.

We SEC fans are just passionate about our football. Thanks for reminding about LSU! As far as SEC players in the NFL that's another dimension. Say what you want about Tebow - But find me ONE - Just ONE college football coach that would say I don't want him on my team.

Next year look out for John Brantley - He can PASS the ball!!! :D

I just hope Urbie can whip the Irish into shape next year. They have a pretty good quarterback with some impressive numbers that Urbie could work with.

I would almost certainly say that the coach of Houston wouldn't want him on his team. teabag isn't a good enough passer to play on that team. They would have to change around their offense to be able run to keep teabag effective.

The SEC will always be better than the other conferences based on those facts alone. If you and get away from the man with a 50" plasma TV in your arms then you can play for the gators or the Vols!
Also with that schedule and those players you better win a National Championship!

This is "Thug U":

JANORIS JENKINS
Charge: Misdemeanor affray and resisting arrest without violence for his role in a May 30, 2009 fight outside a downtown Gainesville night club.
Outcome: The State Attorney’s Office is currently investigating.
Team punishment: To be determined.
MARQUIS HANNAH
Charge: Felony burglary of an occupied dwelling unarmed and misdemeanor battery in late April 2009 for allegedly forcing his way into a Gainesville apartment and punching a man in the face.
Outcome: Case was dismissed due to lack of evidence, according to lawyer Huntley Johnson.
Team punishment: To be determined.
CARL JOHNSON
Charge: Misdemeanor violation of a sexual restraining order in February 2009 after getting on the same campus bus as an ex-girlfriend. The woman previously filed a petition claiming Johnson date-raped her on three occasions.
Outcome: All charges were dropped due to a lack of evidence.
Team punishment: Johnson never missed any time. Coach Urban Meyer said Johnson would remain on the team as long as the investigation checked out.
RILEY COOPER
Charge: Misdemeanor resisting an officer and failure comply with a police or fire department in February 2009. Campus police cited Cooper for not getting out of the way of a moving car upon police’s orders, according to Johnson.
Outcome: The case was dismissed.
Team punishment: Cooper played baseball during the spring, and it’s unknown whether Meyer sought out punishment.
CAM NEWTON
Charge: Felony counts of burglary, larceny and obstruction of justice in November after allegedly stealing a laptop from a UF student and throwing it out his dormitory window upon police suspicion.
Outcome: Newton received pre-trial deferment – common for a first-time offender – and is serving community service and probation time. The charges will disappear assuming he completes his obligations.
Team punishment: Meyer suspended Newton for the rest of the 2008 season. Newton transferred to Blinn (Texas) Junior College.
JACQUES RICKERSON
Charge #1: Misdemeanor possession of marijuana in February 2007.
Outcome: Charges were dropped without legal ramifications.
Charge #2: Felony domestic violence by strangulation and felony obstruction of justice after a November 2008 altercation with a girlfriend.
Outcome: Charges were reduced to misdemeanor status, then the Alachua County courts gave him two years probation without proceeding with the charges.
Team punishments: Rickerson was suspended for the 2007 season opener for the marijuana charge, then kicked off the team the morning of the domestic violence incident.
TORREY DAVIS
Charge: Misdemeanor knowingly driving with a suspended license on numerous occasions, including once in July 2008 and another in March 2009 – two weeks after he left the team – that placed him in jail.
Outcome: The July case was closed.
Team punishment: Davis was always in Meyer’s doghouse and hardly allowed to practice or play with the team for various academic and disciplinary reasons, so it’s safe to say Meyer suspended Davis for his crimes.
JAMAR HORNSBY
Charge #1: Cited for misdemeanor property damage and criminal mischief in April 2007 for allegedly throwing a man onto the hood of a car during a fight.
Outcome: Hornsby received deferred prosecution and the charge was later dismissed.
Charge #2: Unauthorized use of a credit card to obtain goods and services, a felony, along with misdemeanor larceny of a credit card for allegedly making more than 70 fradulent charges on the gas credit card of a female UF student who died seven months earlier.
Outcome: Charges were reduced to misdemeanors and Hornsby took a plea deal – probation and community service.
Team punishments: No punishment for first offense, kicked off the team for second offense. Hornsby served a previous five-game suspension, but it wasn’t for the first misdemeanor – it was for selling his complimentary tickets.
JERMAINE CUNNINGHAM
Charge: Misdemeanor battery in December 2007 for an altercation with a clerk at Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich Shop in Gainesville. Cunningham allegedly threw paper cups at the clerk.
Outcome: Charges were dropped.
Team punishment: Cunningham played in Florida’s next game, the Capital One Bowl, but Meyer said he imposed physical punishment on Cunningham, who also couldn’t accept bowl-game gifts.
TONY JOINER
Charge: Felony theft in October 2007 for breaking into a car impound and retrieving his girlfriend’s car, which had been towed.
Outcome: Charges were dropped.
Team punishment: Joiner never missed game time, but Meyer stripped him of his captaincy.
RONNIE WILSON
Charge #1: Aggravated assault, battery and use of display of a concealed weapon during commission of a felony in April 2007 for shooting a semiautomatic rifle after a dispute with another man.
Outcome: Wilson pleaded no contest to battery and discharging a firearm. The felony charge was reduced to a misdemeanor and later dropped. Wilson was placed on two year’s probation and given 100 hours of community service.
Charge #2: Misdemeanor possession of marijuana in January 2008.
Outcome: The charge was dropped despite serving probation for his original arrest.
Charge #3: One count of battery and one count of assault for an altercation at an apartment complex in October.
Outcome: Nothing has been ruled on the case, according to court records.
Team punishments: Wilson was suspended for the entire 2007 season stemming from the gun charge, including a full-year suspension from University of Florida academics. Wilson rejoined the team in 2008 but was suspended and eventually kicked off after the third charge.
DUSTIN DOE
Charge: Misdemeanor affray and resisting arrest for his role in an April 2007 fight.
Outcome: Charges were dropped.
Team punishment: No suspension for Doe.
DORIAN MUNROE
Charge: Felony theft in May 2007 when he removed a University Police boot from his car and put it in his trunk.
Outcome: Charges were dropped.
Team punishment: No suspension for Munroe.
JOHN CURTIS
Charge: Misdemeanor violation of probation in May 2007 after failing to serve five hours of community service stemming from an alcohol citation.
Outcome: Curtis complied with the violation, served probation and the case was dismissed.
Team punishment: Curtis was in Meyer’s doghouse, but he was also injured, so it was difficult to tell why he was out.
BRANDON JAMES
Charge: Purchasing marijuana -- a felony -- along with misdemeanor possession of marijuana in June 2007.
Outcome: The felony charge was dropped due to a minuscule amount (8 grams); James served probation and community service stemming from the misdemeanor charge.
Team punishment: Suspended for one game, the 2007 opener against Western Kentucky.
AVERY ATKINS
Charge: Misdemeanor domestic battery in July 2006 after an altercation in Daytona Beach with the mother of his child. The initial investigation took place in June 2006 with Atkins facing accusations of felony false imprisonment along with the battery charge.
Outcome: Atkins received pre-trial intervention and both cases were eventually dropped.
Team punishment: Meyer immediately suspended Atkins, who then transferred to Bethune-Cookman, found legal trouble there and died in July 2007 from a drug overdose.
LOUIS MURPHY
Charge: Misdemeanor possession of marijuana in May 2006.
Outcome: Charges were dropped, and Murphy had to perform 12.5 hours of community service.
Team punishment: Murphy was suspended for three games during the 2006 season.
JON DEMPS
Charge: Misdemeanor driving with a suspended license in September 2006.
Outcome: Charges were dropped and Demps received six months probation.
Team punishment: Meyer kicked Demps off the team after the 2006 season reportedly for a marijuana-related incident. Demps worked out with the Gators later that summer but never played for UF again.
DAWAYNE GRACE
Charge #1: Misdemeanor charges of battery and theft in July 2005 stemming from a sworn complaint.
Outcome: Charges were dropped because victim did not wish to prosecute.
Charge #2: Misdemeanor violation of a city ordinance and disorderly conduct in October 2005 for his involvement in a fight. Eyewitnesses told police that Grace threw a punch.
Outcome: Grace completed a deferred prosecution program including 7.5 hours of community service.

Team punishment: Meyer suspended Grace indefinitely after the October arrest. Grace later transferred to Georgia Southern.

Charges dropped does not equal not guilty. Not a new development in the law either. End of story. I'm not casting stones either. Certain players for my alma mater have had run ins with the law, too. Just piling on in the effort to set the record straight on the distinction among guilt, innocence, and the rest of that procedural stuff.

In short, yes. It's a parody of on of those dumb little "words of wisdom" books for people who watched way too many movies in the 80's. The guy with whom I wrote it and I think it's pretty funny. The point is, you can read a couple of pages, put it down, and pick it back up on your next visit like you never left. So the john would be a good place to leave it.

Did I mention it's also available in paperback and makes a great stocking stuffer.

WOW, thank you for the link to this eye opening article. I never felt tim teabag was any good, but this article speaks volumes when it says, "Mallett already projects ahead of Tebow in the NFL Draft according to many mock draft boards if he were to enter the Draft after this season." That is funny, as a red-shirt sophomore he would be drafted ahead of teabag. :purplaugh

My guess is he gets drafted, gets put at TE for a season or two and then is given his walking papers.

Come on! I work up a custom photoshop just for you, and the best you can come up with is "Luckhorns?" That's almost a compliment.

If anything our, kicker took notes watching that Nebraska kicker. Thanks to him and the fact that our defense actually showed up yesterday, we squeaked it out.

As for Alabama, we see. As for luck, I'll take it over a loss any day. My personal belief is that if our offense and defense show up, we have a shot. But I prefer coming in as the underdog. And let's face it, there's no danger of that not happening. No ESPN announcers are crawling around the Longhorns cavities.

Bottom line: I don't expect my team to go to the NC every year. I was fortunate enough to see them win a title in my lifetime. I'm very happy to have the chance to see them play for it again. No trash talk to Alabama. If we play hard and lose to a stronger team, no regrets here. If we show up, play hard, and win, I'll be as proud of my team as a fan can be.

Excellent reply.................The photoshop was classic!!!

I don't expect the Gators to be in the National Championship every year either. This was just an exceptional year when they returned 22 defensive players and quite a few offensive players.............As much as I dislike Saban, you have to respect what he has done in turning Alabama's program around in a short period of time.

That being said.....................I will always be a (LOG) Loud Obnoxious Gator..............:D

Next year if the Gators beat Tennessee, jawga, & Florida State - I'll consider it a succcessful season..............;)

For what it's worth, the "going to the NC every year" comment wasn't directed at you or Florida. I was referring to my team, since they are headed back there much sooner than I had ever anticipated. My loyalty to my Alabama relatives (who are Auburn fans anyway) ended yesterday.

Does anybody other than me think the bowl selections this year are a bit suspicious? Putting Boise St. and TCU against each other in the same BCS bowl seems a bit fishy to me.

Last year Utah whips Alabama. Two years before that, Boise State stuns Oklahoma. Now you have two good teams that could make some noise in the bowl games again, so what does the BCS do? They make them play each other. What a bunch of crap. Are they afraid that either of these teams will beat one of the "big boys" again and put more pressure for a playoff? I'm calling RAT on this one. The BCS doesn't want a playoff and the opponent selection this year is glaring proof.

If at this moment you told me we could forever have a playoff system if we implemented it right now, even if it meant Texas might not end up playing for the NC as is currently the case, I'd say let's have the playoff system. In our current system, I'm always wishing we'd get to play more varied and difficult teams for our out of conference games. Tough or not, if you don't win those games, you watch the big game at the end of the year in your living room. Simple as that. However, since my undefeated team was was ranked no lower than 3rd all year, I'd be more than a bit ticked if I had to hear about style points for a second year in a row.

Bring on the playoff system! As it stands, I've got six weeks of no football that I'm willing to watch.

A playoff system that takes the top 8 ranked teams and puts them into a playoff would close many of the arguments. It adds two more weeks of games and the top 2 teams could still play for the NC a couple days after New Years, and the rest of the teams could be divided up between the other bowls as it is now. We still have the bowl games, we have a REAL championship game, and the bowls still make thier money. Everybody is happy. Makes sense to me.

First off, I'm for a playoff, but. Several of the lower/lesser bowls would have a hard time selling tickets if there were a playoff system.
What if we started the playoff with the lower/lesser bowl games. Working the teams and bowl games down to the final teams and the current BCS NC bowl rotation? That way the big bowls will still get their NC game every few years and the other bowls will get a share of the pie as teams work through the playoffs.

Back up a minute. No style points this year. My team needed a win and a win is what we got. It's real enough for the system we have. If we had a playoff system, I'd deal with it. But, then again, if canaries carried .45's, cat's wouldn't f*ck with 'em.

I know Texas and Alabama aren't the only undefeated teams. But it's as real as it can be under what we're stuck with. It's not like Cinci, Boise, or TCU beat us or Alabama earlier in the season and we're still headed to the NC with a loss. My team had to eat a BCS sh|t sandwich last year and watch a team we beat go to the big game. I'd have been fine with Texas Tech going last year since they did beat us, but then OK would have had as reasonable of a gripe. And 'round it went, and we all still want a playoff system. But we still don't have one. and this year ain't last year. So I'm calling it REAL and they can have their sandwich with mustard or whatever kills that nasty flavor. Way it goes with what we have. When we have better, I'll call it ice cream.

One big hurdle facing these propsals is exams... a playoff would require an extra two games (minimum) heading into exams. These are obviously something that can't be changed just for the players, so the season schedule would most likely have to start earlier to make this happen.

Do away with the conference championship games. They way the Big Ten finished, you could get finals in before the final 4. Not like any one of the schools involved with a playoff would have a hard time with their players making up finals. Conference championship games are unfair anyway since not all conferences have them. Alabama vs Fla this year is a prime example.

That only eliminates games for a few teams that would be in the playoff picture though. To your other point, as I understand it the NCAA will not change or alter exam scheduling for entire teams (plus, aren't they going there to get an education???;)). I am ALL for a playoff, but this is one of the challenges they will face.

Funny thing is that if Alabama beats Texas 32-13 as they did Florida, what does that say about where Florida should have been? Florida and Texas would be in the exact same position except FLA had to play them first and get knocked out of the 'ship (both with 1 loss and it would be to the same team).....The arguement of who gets to go to ONLY ONE FRIGGIN playoff game will ALWAYS be....So, east tx hit it right on the head....we just have to deal with reality no matter how wrong it may be.

As far as Scott023's question about education....the answer is NO! Those guys are not there for an education. They are there to have their shot at the NFL. If someone offered them full scholarships to those schools and football wasn't a factor, they wouldn't accept them (or at least wouldn't finish).

Eight team playoff, starts the week after the conference championships. The conference champions plus two at large bids.

The playoff works like this: week one - four playoff games, week two - two playoff games. Final two teams play in the Championship game after the new year. Playoffs would be done basically after this weekend. The Heisman Trophy would have to be backed up a week. After the second playoff week, the rest of the bowls pick thier teams after the second playoff game......just like now except one week later.

Funny...TCU would still be playing Boise State in the 1st game with that scenario. I guess it's just destiny that they are going to have to play each other....

Not true, in a playoff format they would get the winner of the Alabama/GT game.
