I would argue that if we would have had a little better coaching against LSU we would have used that against them.

When we played southern michigan, we just didn't show up....kind of like when southern michigan didn't show up against Ole Miss a few weeks ago.

You would argue with a stop sign...................... 41987

And stop calling the Mighty Gators southern michigan......................8p;)

The win makes Florida State bowl eligible for the 27th consecutive season-- now the longest streak in the country

Ohio State is BETTER than southern michigan. Here is how I know.

southern michigan lost to Ole Miss :purplaugh:purplaugh.....at home no less!!!!!! There were some rebels in that thar swamp!!

Ole Miss lost to Vanderbuilt

Vanderbuilt lost to Duke

Duke lost to Northwestern

Northwestern got SMOKED by Ohio State......

Does Ohio State really still have a football team? What's y'alls record against SEC opponents? I seem to remember it starts with a ZERO...

The National Championship will be decided in Atlanta in early December. Alabama against Florida (as it rightly should be) will determine who gets to enjoy a week of sunshine before teaching another school what speed really means.

Quick and easy for UF

By Michael DiRocco, The Times-Union

GAINESVILLE - Another opponent with a supposed good defense.

Another easy Southeastern Conference victory.

South Carolina and former Gators coach Steve Spurrier were Florida's latest conquest. The 24th-ranked Gamecocks brought to Florida Field a defense that ranked in the top 10 in the nation in four statistical categories and left with a 56-6 whipping in front of 90,646 on Saturday afternoon.

No. 3 Florida (9-1, 7-1 Southeastern Conference) rolled up a season-high 519 yards, including 346 rushing - the most on the ground since the Gators ran for 362 against Vanderbilt in 1989. UF had four scoring plays of at least 26 yards and averaged 8.2 yards per play.

The 50-point margin was the worst loss of Spurrier's playing or coaching career (309 games) - including his time as the coach of the USFL's Tampa Bay Bandits, the NFL's Washington Redskins and his playing days with Florida, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the San Francisco 49ers.

"If there's a more explosive offense than us, then they're a pretty good team," said wide receiver Percy Harvin, who rushed for 167 yards and two touchdowns, including an 80-yarder on the first offensive snap of the third quarter. "As long as our offensive line dominates the perimeter, we've got enough speed to make you miss and take it the distance."

South Carolina (7-4, 4-4) had given up only 256.5 yards per game (third-best in the nation), hadn't given up more than 24 points in a game and had allowed just nine rushing touchdowns and five passing touchdowns this season.

UF surpassed the yardage total midway through Harvin's third-quarter touchdown run. The Gators scored 28 points in the first half, rushed for five touchdowns and scored the most points against South Carolina since Clemson put up 63 in 2003.

UF quarterback Tim Tebow threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 39 yards and another score, and six different Gators had plays of at least 20 yards.

"We go against a really great defense every single day at practice," UF offensive coordinator Dan Mullen said. "That preparation helps us as much as anything else when you get out there on a Saturday, getting to go against the guys we play against every day in practice on defense. One of the best defenses in the league, if not the best, is our guys. It makes the games a little easier.

"Practice is a little harder than games sometimes when you're going against that talent our defense has."

It certainly looked as if the Gators had it easy, especially in the first quarter. UF has been dominant in the opening 15 minutes since a 31-30 loss to Ole Miss on Sept. 27, outscoring Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky, Georgia and Vanderbilt 80-0. They added another 21 points on Saturday, thanks to two interceptions - linebacker Brandon Spikes returned one for a touchdown - and a South Carolina botched trick play on a kickoff.

UF's defense was nearly as impressive as the offense. The Gators intercepted three passes, sacked South Carolina quarterbacks twice, held the Gamecocks to 1 of 15 on third downs, forced 10 punts and gave up only 173 total yards.

"We heard about [how good South Carolina's defense was] all week," said UF linebacker Brandon Hicks, who caused two interceptions by pressuring the quarterback on blitzes and also recorded one sack. "They came out saying they were the best defense. We felt like we had something to prove."

Maybe so, but the Gators' offense is operating on a higher level.

UF has scored at least 42 points in five consecutive games, matching the second-longest streak in school history, and the Gators are the first team in SEC history to win six consecutive league games by at least 28 points.

"Our guys are playing with confidence, and we're playing hard, and we're playing complete football," Mullen said.

[QUOTE=92 190 PS;557510]Who do I think and who will actually get it are two different questions.

I agree. Unfortunately, the press has most of the votes for this and they aren't the biggest Big Ten fans. I guess that's because we can't seem to win many games come Bowl Time. The Heisman will come from either the SEC or the Big 12 this year. Normally I'd say that the SEC is the top conference for football, but this year I'd have to give the Big 12 the nod. If Texas Tech makes it to the Championship, then Graham Harrell should and probably will get it.

332 Completions = #1 in Nation
462 Attempts
72% Comp. Rate = #3 in Nation
4077 Yards = #1 in Nation
407 yards per game = #1 in Nation
36 TD's = #3 in Nation
5 Int's
169.2 QB rating = #7 in Nation

If they do win out, they will have beaten 3 teams ranked in the top 10. Those stats are pretty impressive.

I just don't understand the "romance" that the press and the BCS has with Florida. They have one loss just like a lot of other teams. The only difference is ............they lost at home to an unranked team!! Oh...i'm sorry, Mississippi is now ranked #25. The first time they have been ranked since 2003. At least the other 1 loss teams either lost on the road or to a highly ranked team or both. Texas : on road to #6 team. Texas Tech : on road to #5 team. USC : on road to #17 team. Oklahoma : at home, but to #1 team. Not that I think they are in the same league as the previously mentioned schools, but even Penn State's loss came on the road. This just goes to show that the BCS caters to the schools based on tradition, not the team they have that year. I just don't feel Florida should be in the Title Game this year, but they will probably get in just for the advertising and marketing. Hopefully Alabama takes care of business, and gets in.

I agree. I pull for Florida when I watch them play for the simple reason that I have several friends on here that are die hards. BUT, Alabama is by far the best team this year IMHO I don't understand why many don't even put them on the radar when talking about the big game. Yes, Florida did get beat at home by an unranked team. But since then they have played ranked teams and beaten them by an average of 40 points. Any other college teams doing that EVERY WEEK??? I don't think so. You cannot argue that Florida is playing BETTER football than anyone in the Nation and if they beat Alabama they deserve to be in the National Championship Game PERIOD!!!

Let's compare teams played to date......

Florida = 3 ranked teams played
Texas = 4 ranked teams played
Oklahoma = 4 ranked teams played
Texas Tech = 4 ranked teams played

If you check the AP rankings....... I believe the Big 12 has 5 teams in the top 12 while the SEC only has 4 teams in the top 25. So the math points to the Big 12 being the top conference this year.

Anytime a team hears for 3 straight weeks that they don't belong there it is going to give them the feeling of nothing to loose. Well, well ... this thread is getting interesting. I do have to say that Florida looks good but to say that the SEC is the best conference just because ESPN says it does not make it true. Sagrin and RPI both rate the Big 12 significantly higher than the SEC. Actually, I have not seen one confernce ranking that did not have the Big 12 ahead of the SEC by a significant margin. So to say the SEC is the best football conference is simply not backed by facts.

Just sayin ...

SEMINOLES NOTEBOOK: FSU's Reed, Wade face battery charges

TALLAHASSEE - About three hours after being arrested on misdemeanor battery charges, two Florida State football players were back at practice Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman wide receivers Bert Reed and Cameron Wade turned themselves in to university police around noon Wednesday after warrants were issued for their arrest in connection with an on-campus brawl two weeks ago. Both players were released within minutes after posting bond, and FSU coach Bobby Bowden said both will play Saturday against Florida.

"They're going to be available," Bowden said after Wednesday's practice. "They've been disciplined."

Two days after the fight, which occurred at the FSU student union, Bowden suspended Reed, Wade and three other wide receivers from that weekend's game against Boston College, which the Seminoles lost 27-17.

The fight allegedly involved football players and members of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and resulted in injuries to four students. FSU police have said the most serious injury was sustained by a female bystander, who was hit in the head by a chair thrown during the melee.

According to a news release issued by the university Wednesday, FSU police still are investigating and hope to identify the person who threw the chair. That person is expected to face a felony charge, but conflicting witness statements have slowed the investigation.

No fraternity members were arrested Wednesday, FSU officials said.

Reed has had several disciplinary issues, including a one-game suspension for missing classes, and he missed another game for an undisclosed violation of team rules. He's fourth on the team with 253 receiving yards and also has three touchdowns.

Editor's note: Each week, ESPN.com asks one of its Heisman Watch voters to explain his/her picks. You can register your vote at 2008 Vote Heisman.

My actual Heisman Trophy ballot arrived via express mail last weekend. I haven't even opened it. I believe it's still at least a four-man race between three Big 12 quarterbacks and the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow of Florida. Tebow can make quite an impression the next two weeks. So can Bradford, whose team plays at rival Oklahoma State on Saturday night.

1. Sam Bradford, Oklahoma -- Bradford is the latest Big 12 quarterback at the top of my ballot after he out-dueled Texas Tech's Graham Harrell in last week's 65-21 rout in Norman. Bradford has been the model of consistency all season, completing 68.2 percent of his passes with 42 touchdowns and only six interceptions. His only blemish has been tossing two interceptions in the 45-35 loss to Texas on Oct. 11.

2. Colt McCoy, Texas -- McCoy is one of only three quarterbacks playing at FBS schools who have passed for more than 3,000 yards and run for more than 500 this season. (Rice's Chase Clement and Illinois' Juice Williams are the others.) McCoy has completed 77.2 percent of his passes for 3,134 yards and 30 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. His passer rating of 177.6 ranks fourth nationally and his 77.2 completion percentage ranks first. His worst game might have come in Texas' 39-33 loss at Texas Tech on Nov. 1, when he completed 58.8 percent of his attempts and threw two touchdowns and one interception.

3. Tim Tebow, Florida -- If Tebow plays well in Saturday's game at Florida State and against Alabama in the Dec. 6 SEC championship game, it will be hard for me to not move him to No. 1 on my ballot. He has been every bit as good as he was last season, when he became the first sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. Tebow leads the SEC in passing efficiency, throwing for 2,114 yards with 22 touchdowns and only two interceptions in 225 attempts. He also has rushed for 427 yards with 11 touchdowns.

4. Graham Harrell, Texas Tech -- It's so hard to separate Harrell, McCoy and Bradford. It's like trying to decide which Big 12 South team is the best. Harrell has completed 70.5 percent of his passes for 4,438 yards with 39 touchdowns and six interceptions. He played very well in Texas Tech's biggest victories -- throwing for 474 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Texas and completing 40 of 50 passes for 456 yards and six scores in a 56-20 rout of Oklahoma State.

5. Brian Johnson, Utah -- Why not? Give the senior quarterback some love for leading the Utes to an unbeaten record. He completed 30 of 36 passes for 303 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions in last week's 48-24 victory over rival BYU. On Nov. 6, Johnson produced the last-minute touchdown drive to beat TCU 13-10. He's completed 68.3 percent of his passes for 2,636 yards with 24 touchdowns and nine interceptions this season.

You must have not been watching the same game that I was watching. Both the coaches and announcers said at times there was about 6 inches of water standing on the field. Or possibly you still have rabbit ears instead of cable causing that fuzzyness on your TV screen. It has been awhile since the Big Ten was the cream of the crop. Remember, prior to Spurrier Florida didn't have anything to cheer about. Everything is cyclical.......the Big Ten will have it's day again.

Whatever....................8p

First, Ohio State has a big stadium and I will tip my hat to their band (very classy), but to bad they don't play anybody in the high school football league their in. Put Ohio State in the SEC and they are mediocre at best--period. I've been to the Swamp and it is a zoo! It is a great place to watch a game.

Second, Alabama is in for it. I don't particularly have any thing against Bama, but as a Dolphins fanatic, I can't stand their traitor coach Saban. I think FL will win and I hope it is a blow out.

Lets GO GATORS!!

I must say that the offence the run is pretty BORING. And if the announcers could have gone on the damn field and blown tebow im pretty sure they would have.

I don't think another team could have scored 31 points against bama. They were rated the #1 defense in the nation coming into the game.

Which shirt, what?
To burn with or to use as an oil rag?

I'd probably have to say the white one in the middle, why?

That shovel pass was a pretty sweet play, they even used it against the Noles last week ..
One would think that Alabama would be expecting it, to be used again during game play.
They obviously missed reviewing those game tapes, I'd say.
