If Tressel said that, he wasn't being entirely truthful. There are articles where the players themselves said they were yelling at each other on the sidelines.

Like I stated above, and in emails to friends, where the heck where our tight ends? They can be some of the most valuable players on the field when trying to avoid a quick rush too! Just look at how LSU and FLA used theirs the past 2 NC games.

I too am disgusted with the coaching this year. I'm disappointed that our guys couldn't keep their cool and got stupid penalties.

I AM NOT taking anything away from LSU and their coaching staff. They did a great job.

Think of it this way, you have seven months to be bitter and finally get a haircut. :D

I don't debate the fact that OSU has good team speed, but the last 2 years have proved that they are not used to playing against teams with great team speed. At the beginning of the year, Michigan had the same problem adjusting to the speed of the teams from the south. Ohio State looked like they were not prepared for the speed and did not adjust to the speed until it was too late. As a couple of you have suggested, it was also obvious that LSU was better coached in the this game. OSU is going in the right direction by scheduling USC next year and have scheduled Texas in the past, but they do not have the big game experience due to the depth of the Big 10 this year and do not routinely see the type of speed the teams from the SEC posess. Great thread and some great posts on this thread about Monday.

Bitter...nah. Disappointed...yes. As I have stated numerous times...I am a Northern Ohio (Cleveland) sports fan. This type of let down is the norm for me.

And...if I do get my hair cut, it won't have anything to do with your (envious) comments! 8p :D

We're all better coaches than the ones on the field, but here's some confirmation from a Cleveland Plain Dealer article:

"3. Throwing to the tight end is a good thing. Eight Tigers caught passes Monday night, versus four Buckeyes. Eight LSU players rushed the ball, versus three from OSU. The Tigers took advantage of every player in their arsenal. The Buckeyes handed off to Beanie Wells 20 times and threw toward their receivers.

Remember how wide open LSU tight end Richard Dickson was on his two touchdown catches? Maybe Buckeyes tight ends Rory Nicol and Jake Ballard would have been that wide open if Ohio State had called anything for them."

For many (I won't use 'ALL' as it is too encompassing) who think we all drink OSU Kool-Aide (we don't), here's a good article.

Florida selected to win 2008 SEC Title by media

Hoover, AL - Friday July 25, 2008

The University of Florida football team was picked by the media to win the 2008 Southeastern Conference Championship. In addition, five Gators were selected to the preseason All-SEC first-team. The results were announced today at the third and final day of the SEC media days in Hoover, Ala.

Florida was picked to win the title on 36 out of 70 ballots by the media members. They received 45 first-place votes to win the Eastern Division, followed by Georgia (23 first-place votes) and Tennessee (2).

Wide receiver Percy Harvin (Virginia Beach, Va.) tied Georgia’s Knowshon Moreno as the leading vote getters with 68 votes. Linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.) had the most votes among the defensive players with 65 votes. There were no unanimous selections on offense, defense or special teams.

Quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) and tight end Cornelius Ingram (Hawthorne, Fla.) were also selected to the first-team offense. Brandon James (St. Augustine, Fla.) was named the first-team return man for special teams.

Florida led the league with five first-team selections.

As a UGA fan, Im totally pumped to see what they can come out with this year. My worry is can they keep that fire that they had as they finished last year. i can't wait to see what happens in the SEC this year... hope you're all ready for my bold statement of the year... "if a team out of the SEC w/ 0 or 1 loss gets to play for the BCS title (wether it be UF, UGA, or AU) they will win the national championship... i can't wait to see what happens though as much as i can't stand bammers... Alabama is going to have a talented group of freshmen that i'm anxious to see if they're able to live up to the hype and turn the program around (i'm honestly expecting them to play like freshmen in the SEC... few big plays but get big boyed and man handled play-after-play)... Arkansas and Ole Miss are both under new leadership... Spurrier is always a nuisance even if he's at talent deprived USC... LSU will hurt for a QB but they are coming off a big year (i still think Les Miles is an idiot and OVER RATED)... Sly Croom isn't the only one saying big things about Miss St and Kentucky and Vandy have some talent on the team wether or not they can play spoiler again like Ky did last year??? and then you have those step cousins to the north east in Knoxville who are always there in the mix... o yea and my alma mater... AU is picked #1 in the West

MAN... I LOVE SEC FOOTBALL

Auburn will beat Ga. which will put them in the SEC Championship game, possible a rematch with Ga. in Atlanta but most likely Fl., Auburn is over due to beat Ga. and we play in our house. If the BCS will take another one or two loss SEC school I like my tigers chances. Ga. has too tough of a schedule. good luck to the dogs! WAR EAGLE!!

Gonna be another exciting year of football for sure. I'd love to see some new names in the mix. Look out for the Juice, Juice Williams from Illinois. He's a gritty speedster who has a good arm.

A nice unveiling for Michigan as they enter another era alltogether for sure. They will struggle but perhaps we can finally bury Bo Schembechler once and for all and not run the damn ball on third and 12. Not that I'm bitter.

In another area the Sooners and USC will also be very fun to watch !!!!

ok... how did LSU get ranked higher than AU?... EVERY thing i've seen out of the SEC media and anyone who really covers SEC ball has AU winning the West... not that i'm bitter towards polls (although the preseason poll was the only reason we didn't get a shot at USC in 03 and instead we got to beat the snot our of Va Tech while USC mutilated Oklahoma)

Huh, It always amuses me how Wisconsin gets overlooked by college football fans, especially SEC faithful. I know michigan is out of the picture since they have been loosing the last game of the year for soooooo long, but Penn St is always there and this year Illinois is going to be solid.

Big 10 has just as many teams in the top 25 as the sec does.

Ahhh, let the games begin......soon.

Yeah, can't wait...Syracuse is ranked at the bottom of the Big East this year! Can anyone guess how long it will take to build a decent program?? Good thing I'm not holding my breath!! They are bringing Penn State to the Carrier Dome though, which I am extremely surprised!! I can't believe they would want to humiliate themselves like that. It'll be nice to see some real players for a change.

Against Florida they arses handed to them no question, but against LSU all they had to do was keep LSU honest with some play action and do something about that little white running back and it is a whole different ball game. ok les miles is an idiot and jim tressel is a much better coach... LSU has the stereotypical hard nose, smash mouth, and VERY fast SEC defense... OSU isn't the only team to be on their heels and try to play damage control against a defense like that... jim tressel didn't get out coached in my opinion... he just didn't have the athletes on the field (not to take anything away form OSU's athlete b/c they are good ones... just a bit different breed)

Planning for the fall football season in the South is
radically different than up North. For those who are
planning a football trip South, here are some helpful hints.

Women's Accessories:
NORTH: Chap Stick in back pocket and a $20 bill in the front pocket.
SOUTH: Louis Vuitton duffel with two lipsticks, waterproof mascara,
and a fifth of bourbon. Money not necessary - that's what dates are for.

Stadium Size:
NORTH: College football stadiums hold 20,000 people.
SOUTH: High school football stadiums hold 20,000 people.

Fathers:
NORTH: Expect their daughters to understand Sylvia Plath.
SOUTH: Expect their daughters to understand pass interference.

Campus Decor:
NORTH: Statues of founding fathers.
SOUTH: Statues of Heisman trophy winners.

Homecoming Queen:
NORTH: Also a physics major.
SOUTH: Also Miss America.

Heroes:
NORTH: Rudy Giuliani
SOUTH: Archie & Peyton Manning

Getting Tickets:

NORTH: 5 days before the game you walk into the ticket
office on campus.
SOUTH: 5 months before the game you walk into the ticket
office on campus, make a large financial contribution and
put name on a waiting list for tickets.

Friday Classes After a Thursday Night Game:
NORTH: Students and teachers not sure they're going to the
game, because they have classes on Friday.
SOUTH: Teachers cancel Friday classes because they don't
want to see the few hung over students that might actually make it to class.

Parking:
NORTH: An hour before game time, the University opens the
campus for game parking.
SOUTH: RVs sporting their school flags begin arriving on
Wednesday for the weekend festivities. The really faithful arrive on Tuesday.

Game Day:
NORTH: A few students party in the dorm and watch ESPN on TV.
SOUTH: Every student wakes up, has a beer for breakfast, and
rushes over to where ESPN is broadcasting "Game Day Live" to get on camera
and wave to the idiots up north who wonder why "Game Day Live" is never
Broadcast from their campus.

Tailgating:
NORTH: Raw meat on a grill, beer with lime in it, listening
to local radio station with truck tailgate down.
SOUTH: 30-foot custom pig-shaped smoker fires up at dawn. Cooking
accompanied by live performance from the Guns and Roses cover
band,... who come over during breaks and ask for a hit off bottle of bourbon.

Getting to the Stadium:
NORTH: You ask "Where's the stadium?" When you find it, you walk right in.
SOUTH: When you're near it, you'll hear it. On game day it is the state's
third largest city.

Concessions:
NORTH: Drinks served in a paper cup, filled to the top with soda.
SOUTH: Drinks served in a plastic cup, with the home team's
mascot on it, filled less than half way with soda, to ensure enough room
for bourbon.

When National Anthem is Played:

NORTH : Stands are less than half full, and less than half
of them stand up.
SOUTH: 100,000 fans, all standing, sing along in perfect
four-part harmony.

The Smell in the Air After the First Score:
NORTH: Nothing changes.
SOUTH: Fireworks, with a touch of bourbon.

Commentary (Male):
NORTH: "Nice play."
SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sum***** - tackle him and break his legs."

Commentary (Female):
NORTH: "My, this certainly is a violent sport."
SOUTH: "Dammit, you slow sum***** - tackle him and break his legs."

Announcers:
NORTH: Neutral and paid.
SOUTH: Announcer harmonizes with the crowd in the fight
song, with a tear in his eye because he is so proud of his team.

After the Game:
NORTH: The stadium is empty way before the game ends.
SOUTH: Another rack of ribs goes on the smoker, while
somebody goes to the nearest package store for more bourbon, and planning begins
for next week's game.

Nothing else in the universe comes even halfway close to the glories of Southern football!

And for SEC Fans:

HOW MANY SEC STUDENTS DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A LIGHT BULB?

At VANDERBILT: it takes two, one to change the bulb and one
more to explain how they did it every bit as good as the bulbs changed at Harvard.

At GEORGIA: it takes two, one to change the bulb and one to
explain how they're not a student but their cousin's best friend's father-in-law's son is a
student at Georgia and the whole family is so proud of him...Go Dawgs!

At FLORIDA: it takes four, one to screw in the bulb and three to figure out
how to get stoned off the old one.

At ALABAMA: it takes five, one to change it, three to reminisce about how
The Bear would have done it, and one to throw the old bulb at an NCAA
investigator.

At OLE MISS: it takes six, one to change it, two to mix the drinks and three
to find the perfect J. Crew outfit to wear for the occasion.

At LSU: it takes seven, and each one gets credit for five Semester hours.

At KENTUCKY: it takes eight, one to screw it in and seven to discuss how
much brighter it seems to shine during basketball season.

At TENNESSEE: it takes ten, two to figure out how to screw it in, two to buy
an orange lampshade, and six to phone a radio call-in show and talk about
how much they hate Alabama.

At MISSISSIPPI STATE: it takes fifteen, one to screw in the bulb, two to buy
the Skoal, and twelve to yell, "GO TO HELL, OLE MISS".

At AUBURN: it takes one hundred, one to change it,
forty-nine to talk about how they did it better than at Bama, and fifty to get drunk
and roll Toomer's Corner when finished.

At SOUTH CAROLINA: it takes 80,000, one to screw it in and 79,999 to discuss
how this finally will be the year that they have a decent football team.

At ARKANSAS: None. There is no electricity in Arkansas

Alabama Football Scouting Report

Well folks, it has finally arrived....the Tide football scouting report. Following are Alabama's top recruits:

Wayfron P. Jackson: 6' 6', 215 lbs. Wide Receiver. Hottest prospect from Flint in the last ten years. Loves rap music. Will demand a mini-cassette in his helmet. Currently holds world record for the most 'you knows' during an interview (62 in one minute) Wayfron can print his complete name.

Cletis Quinticious Jenkins: 6' 3', 220 lbs.. Running Back. Set state scoring record out of Triton High School, Dunn, N.C. Also led the state in burglaries, but has only 9 convictions. He has been clocked at 4.2 seconds in the 40-yard dash with a 19' TV under each arm.

Roosevelt 'Dude' Dansell: 6' 1', 195 lbs. Running Back. >From Red Bank, Michigan. Has processed hair and imitates Billy Dee Williams very well. Before he signed his letter of intent, he wanted the Wolverines to change maize and blue school colors to chartreuse and pink. Listed his church preference as 'red brick.'

Woodrow Lee Washington: 6' 8', 310 lbs. Tackle. From a 4th generation welfare family. At 19 he's the oldest of 21 children. Mother claims Woodrow and child number 9 have same father He has a manslaughter trial pending but feels he will be found innocent because: 'The dude said something bad 'bout my Momma.' On his entrance form, he listed his I.Q. as 20-20.

Willie 'Night Train' Smith: 6'4', 225 lbs. Quarterback. Born on an Amtrak train. Birth certificate indicates he is 27 years old. Recruited by Nebraska. Thought the 'N' on their helmets stood for 'Nowledge', but still meets the stringent Alabama entrance requirements. Insists on wearing number 32 jersey since it matches his score on his College Entrance Exam.

Tyrone 'Python' Peoples: 6'10', 228 lbs. Wide Receiver. Has a pending paternity suit and two rape trials, but hopes none of his other 9 victims will file charges Tyrone had already signed letters of intent with six other colleges but was also willing to sign with Michigan. Likes wild women and red Cadillac's. Thinks Taco Bell is a Mexican Telephone Company.

Abdul Hasheen Abba Ali: 6'10', 305 lbs. Guard. Played high school ball under the name Sylvester Lee Jones until he discovered religion. Abdul thinks Sherlock Holmes is a housing project in Detroit. Doesn't know the meaning of the word 'fear.' (Doesn't know the meaning of many other words, either.)

Note: Alabama track coach intends to use several of the above signees in their track program. However, instead of using a starting gun at track meets, the NCAA has now agreed to let Alabama use a burglar alarm.

Folks, we thought we'd be able to give you the scouting report on the Florida Gators, but unfortunately none of their current recruits are out on parole and could not be reached in time for this report.

He is good at the college level and that is great, good for him. We'll see what happens when he has to go to the next level. He'll end up just like Troy Smith because these types of QB's don't make it in the pros. These guys are great at this level where they are faster than the defense, but that type of play don't cut it in the NFL.

I would like to think that MR. TRESSEL wouldn't want him, but I know better. I know I wouldn't want him, I wouldn't want to give Tricky the satisfaction.

That is what happens when you play a team whose average age is older than some NFL teams. I remember when they did a special on Utah when Meyer was there. Average age was somewhere in the low 20's. When GT played Utah in a bowl, They had 10-15 players 22-25 years old. Men playing against boys.

I actually didn't mind the SEC until a buddy of mine moved down to Tennessee and told me how everybody is so crazy about it and they throw it in your face. Then I come on here and it's "the SEC this, and the SEC that, blah blah blah" Prior to this board I liked Georgia because of their D always being good. Heck I was really happy when my Bengals took Pollack and Thurman in 2005 (even though both guys are out of football now). Then I joined this board and the Buckeyes got beat by the gaytors and lsu and it's SEC this and SEC that, but nobody wants to acknowledge how Penn St. beat Tenn and Wisc beat Ark or Bama in the bowl games that year. And that's fine, just now I don't care about the SEC and I always root against them. On Monday I was pulling for UCLA over Tenn. and I don't like the PAC-10 at all. They don't play D out west.

Oh well, there it is for you Tricky

why we are big on the SEC is that we have the best conference in football. sorry but the conference is stacked this year. from top to bottom it may be better than it has been in the past. it is gonna be a chore for anyone to come out of the SEC with no more than one conference loss. gonna be a good year for football!!

i can tell you exactly how fat phil feels about his kicker.... he whishes he didn't have to suspend his #1 kicker for being a FREAKIN' MORON... this Colquitt kid has been arrested like a dozen times for alcohol related incidents... his latest i believe was a hit and run in the summer and phil suspended him for 5 games... this idiot (even though he is a kicker and not really a football player) needs to think about his team before he does something stupid... i put 1/5 of the blame on colquitt... the other is divided between offense, defense, coaching staff, and the kicker who is on scholarship and made a staggering 1 of 4 in that game... he'll be lucky if his dad isn't writing a check for tuition next semester

It's pre-season! ;) Except the games actually still count...as UM found out last year! 8p

I hear ya CP, but a lot of people 'hate' the Buckeyes (and ALL of their fans) b/c you have SOME fans that throw the Buckeyes in their face.

Can't win 'em all, but we're 1/3 (33%) in National Championship games in the 2000's. Sometimes you are out-classed (talent), ill-prepared, out-schemed, and just not as lucky.

GO BUCKEYES!!!

Hey Maristar, didn't.....uh....hey wait, ummmm! Hasn't meat-chicken lost TWO season openers in a row?!?!? :purplaugh I guess you should watch scheduling a 1AA team and an almost 1AA team for the first game.

It's one thing to schedule cream puffs at the beginning of the season, but its a WHOLE other thing to LOSE those games.........AT HOME!!!! :jumping:

Oh yeah...well, Ohio U. has been to 3 bowl games since 1962 and has an 0-3 record! 8p

Youngstown St. has some appeal, because it's the school that Tressel coached to 4 National Championships before coming to the Buckeyes. Plus, OSU gets to 'scrimmage' another team and both (in-state) schools get to make some $.

Still have to give major credit to USC coming out of the gates in full stride in a conference game across the country.

Tune in tomorrow at 3:30 to see Akron visit Syracuse! Oh wait, it won't be on TV, because it isn't worth watching...Look on the bright side people, at least most of you have REAL teams to watch! I'd like a real team...please?

hey phat who did the sweater vest steal that trophy from??

Some people like to forget they "stole" it from the highly favored Miami Hurricanes...2002 season!

2002/03 Fiesta— Ohio State 31, Miami (FL) 24 (2OT) (National Champions)

That's the 1 win in 3 NC tries in the last 6 seasons.

No fretting here. Based on current young talent and future (verbal...at this point) commits, we should be a very strong program for years to come. When we get USC at home in game 3 next year, it'll tell us a lot about our very talented but younger team.

We may not be the best of the best every year, but we should be good enough to keep building on our base of 'haters'. :D

... and another loss. At least UM lets you down on the first game of the year ... oh, and the 2nd and then the last.

Too early to start the OSU jokes but no worries I have lots of new ones for November.

Your right P-Hat, but as a devoted Buckeye fan I always answer the Championship losses with "At least they made it to the dance"!

Swank's late FG gives Wake 30-28 win over Ole Miss
MIKE CRANSTON, Sep 6, 2008
Riley Skinner didn't panic, even though he had only a minute following Mississippi's go-ahead touchdown on fourth down. Sam Swank ran onto the field with a smile on his face before attempting the game-winning field goal. Nerves? What nerves? No. 20 Wake Forest used its experience and poise to avoid becoming the latest Atlantic Coast Conference team to disappoint.

Someone's team (mine) needs to get their heads out of their...

This comment to an article about sums it up:

"...the Bucks still won against a fired up ,Coached up hungry team.I am becoming more and more displeased with the lack of coaching with emaotion and lack of Senior leadership we continue to get from our Buckeyes. There is little doubt that the talent level is the best or second best in the country nearly every year, but we keep underacheiving. Hopefully the guys in the laundry room will be able to wash all the #### out of the uniforms the the Ohio team kick out of our Buckeyes before they go to USC. I will be there for the game and I expect to see them play to their potential or above. If a second rate coach like Solich and his crew can coach up a team of athletes the caliber of mid level MAC players to hand us our buts, then I expect our High Paid staff to exceed that effort by getting them ready and excell at game day coaching. Nothing eles is acceptable for the caliber players we have. I am sick of being embarrassed ..."

If that team shows up this Saturday, it's gonna be ugly...

Congrats to ECU!
