Last year my son surfed on his knees. This year he's on his feet. Went without the rope on his 2nd try.

2010 X-15. Just used stock ballast with 6 adults and 2 kids today. I usually put a sack in the rear compartment, a long sack down the seat and another on the seat in the corner if we have less people.

Great video! What size board is he using? My 9 year old wants to surf but not sure what size board to get...

He was on a Hyperlite Broadcast. I think it's 4'10". Last year he could surf on his knees without the rope which helped him understand the pocket. It's hard for kids to push the board with their heels so I have them hold the rope with one hand. Reach their other hand behind and between their legs and push the back of the board down with their hand. We pull at idle for a second so the board flips up and go.

Thanks so much for the info and the tip(s) on getting him up! Can't wait to try that this weekend.
