I have a 93 prostar 205 with 351 HO. Today the temp. gauge dropped to about 120 - 130 the boat normally runs @ 160. Can anyone tell me what this could be? And does anyone know how to test the temp. sending unit? Also does anyone have the part # for the t-stat? Thanks.

Thermostats a designed to fail "open". So good news it possibly did that. Sending units usually do not fail, but if they do it would usually show higher temp. (these are my experiences)

I just pulled out the t-stat and it looks like it's closed. I will replace it anyway hopefully that's the problem. But if anyone knows how to test the sensor or any other things to check it would be greatly appreciated.

also check or just replace ECT sensor... those are cheap...

Checked the temp. sensor it's working. Changed the t-stat with one I got from Autozone (which will do until the one I ordered from Skidim comes in) tested and everything is back to normal. Now it's off to the lake. Thanks for all your help!

Hi

Had same issue with my 1993 Prostar , changed lots of bits ,without it fixing it.
Ended up being corroded connections on the gauge, pay special attention to earth wire, if nessasary run a new earth wire , also helps with inaccurate volt meter readings .

good luck
